Master in Interior Design + Multidisciplinary innovation program Bachelor in Environmental & Architectural Design
PORTFOLIO SELECTED WORKS 2014 - 2015
Hello, my name is Ziwei LIU! I am a girl who always has a passion to face challenges and to create something new. I started to learn painting when I was 8 years old, which made me, learnt how to find beauty in daily life. Afterwards, I got my bachelor’s degree at Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts(Xi'an, China) in Environmental & Architectural design, during the four years' study I got to know the beauty of our surrounding environment and architecture spaces; also I am capable of using my own art abilities through it. Afterwards, I want to fully understand the space and try to explore internal part of architecture, so I decided to do a master’s degree in interior design at Politecnico di Milano (Milan, Italy). This unique experience in Italy gave me an opportunity to fully understand the difference between western and eastern worlds' design traditions and ideas; also I learnt how to do a design teamwork with different cultural backgrounds' people. My second multidisciplinary innovation program at Alta Scuola Politecnica gave me a chance to learn different fields' subjects (from management to railway design) and to work with different majors’ students (Designers, Architects, Urban planners, Engerneers etc.). I believe this experience could contribute a lot when I get into real work projects. I am always considering myself as a dry piece of sponge, expecting to get more water (knowledge). Now I am seeking the opportunities to create great design with amazing people.

Letter of Recommendation for LIU Ziwei
om TOt may WHOM IT MAY CONCERN
It is with my great pleasure that I write this reference letter for Ms LIU Ziwei, in support of her application to your office. As one of the eight members of the board of Alta Scuola Politecnica (ASP), as the Responsible for the ASP Courses’ organization and content, I have to confirm that LIU Ziwei is one of my best student at ASP’s XIth Course.
Subject : Ziwei Liu – Recommendation Letter
ASP (http://www.asp-poli.it) is the Italian top technical universities’ program, that picks up 150 young and exceptionally talented students, selected solely on the basis of merit, among the applicants to the Laurea Magistrale programmes (equivalent to a Master of Science) in Engineering, Architecture and Design at Politecnico di Milano and Politecnico di Torino. The resulting Community is made up of very motivated and exceptionally qualified students (about 60% achieved their Bachelor of Science – B.Sc. – degree cum laude) with a passion for innovation. They come from about 20 different countries and more than 1/3 of them are women.
I allow myself as architect, professor in Exhibit Design and promoter of Erasmus International Programme and bilateral agreement to ask You to considerate the work and projects of my student Ziwei Liu (matr. 832653), in field of Your competence.
The so called “ASPers” follow a curriculum additional to their degree programmes, completely in English, based on adhoc courses and the development of multidisciplinary projects. The mission of ASP is to provide society with high-profile graduates combining in-depth (vertical) disciplinary knowledge from their Laurea Magistrale programmes with interdisciplinary (horizontal) skills that are needed to work in a truly multidisciplinary environment. In this context, LIU Ziwei showed us a profile driven by great effort, precise focus and impressive independence. She graduated as bachelor in Environmental & Architectural Design in Xi’an (the capital of ancient China, in the Shaanxi Province) in one of the top ranking Academy of Fine Arts in the PRC. Now she is attending the Interior Design Program at Politecnico di Milano (Italy) with very good results, while working on the courses and on the multidisciplinary project at ASP. What impressed me about her specific skills is the high curiosity and interest for the existing/historical buildings and spaces and their sense in the urban context and overall her top quality capabilities in graphic computer software, in animation and in model making. I recommend you to exam her last productions in these specific fields.
Ziwei Liu has worked last semester in my laboratory class in Exhibit Design as student and she has shown brightness and very interest about exhibit design, interior design and architecture’s design topics. She worked about animation for exhibit design very well and she was and is able to work alone as in a team of student coming from different country. She has shown very interest in all topics that are closer to the exhibit design, design and architecture topics, with good ability to propose a good vision of a personal and new project idea. Ziwei Liu has good possibility and ability to work alone or in a design study team into a design/architecture school and office.
I Thank You in advance, best regards.
Truly

THE LITTLE PRINCE ACADEMIC WORK| MAR.2015 - JUL. 2015 | SITE: TRIENNALE DESIGN MUSEUM (MILAN, ITALY) | TYPE: EXHIBITION DESIGN
04
The exhibition design studio deals with the investigation, research and development of projects of spaces with exhibition functions. Choosing a novel from the given list and based on fully understanding the story to create an exhibition space for it, linked to traditional and new technologies that combine architecture, interior, lighting and graphic design.
There is a rose on a planet ... ...waiting for me...
far away...
CHOSEN NOVEL: <THE LITTLE PRINCE> BACKGROUND:
The Little Prince (Le Petit Prince), first published in 1943, is a novella and the most famous work of the French aristocrat, writer, poet and pioneering aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (1900–1944). It is a poetic tale, with watercolour illustrations by the author, in which a pilot stranded in the desert meets a young prince fallen to Earth from a tiny asteroid. The story is philosophical and includes social criticism, remarking on the strangeness of the adult world. It was written during a period when Saint-Exupéry fled to North America subsequent to the Fall of France during the Second World War, witnessed first hand by the author and captured in his memoir Flight to Arras.
MAJOR THEMES: In The Little Prince, Saint-Exupéry explains the importance of seeing the whole truth in order to find beauty. He
believes that visible things are only shells that hint at the real worth hidden inside. He points out that man has not learned to look beneath the surface, or perhaps, has forgotten how to do so. Because adults never look inside, they will never know themselves or others. In the book, the fox teaches that one can see only what is important in life by looking with the heart. Because of this lesson, Saint-Exupéry leaves the desert as a different person. He has accepted the Little Prince’s thought that “‘the stars are beautiful because of a flower that cannot be seen.”
CONCEPT: Based on the understanding of the site and the story content, this exhibition design trying to retell and make the visitors
rethink abut the story by reconstruct the space. Different designed objects combine colors, graphics, lighting, smell, interactive exhibited objects will enrich the space and help visitors not only has a good experience inside the space but also has a deep thinking through the major themes of the story. 05

ACADEMIC WORK | NOV.2015 - JEB.2016 | SITE: LA PERMANENT STORICA (CANTÙ, ITALY) | TYPE: LIVING, WORKING, TRAVELLING IN A CONTEMPORARY SCENARIO
This final synthesis interior design studio aims at in-depth development of one typology or hybrid (living, working, travelling) in one given building in the city of Cantù, defining one or more functions related to the given subject and considering specially towards project topics, clients' and users' needs and requirements, also in relation to cantù city and its historical, artistic, architectural and design heritage.
BACKGROUND: Cantù is a town placed in the Brianza District(Italy), significant for design, art and crafts. Many important design firms and enterprises are
located in this area. Cantù is also famous because it hosts the collection of "Compasso d'Oro Design Competition" and the CLAC association for the promotion of furnishing and interior design. In this design project, one of the most important building of this town - La Permanent Storica has been chosen to redesign. La Permanent Storica has a long story as well as the city, it located in the central piazza - Piazza Garibaldi. At the very begining in 1883 it was an Art and Craft school, as time goes on, it became a craftsmen association where produced many famous products collaborated with famous architects such as Ponti, Lancia, Albini, Terragni… But in the 60’s it had generation problem. In 1980 had decrease of members and bad quality works. Now the five floors' building just used the ground and first floor as a showroom of Emmemobili Company. How to redesign the building and bring back the golden age becomes a challenge.
LA PERMANENT STORICA
PIAZZA GARIBALDI 9, CANTÙ

CONCEPT According to the curator of La Permanent Storica ever said, this institution just like a tree system. There came out the concept of this design (apply the words and feeling into reality). Just like what a tree it is, each floor has its unique functions and meanings. Besides, it both has horizontal centrality and vertical connections. The hypothetical seed explain the potential possibilities of the creation products and future development.
... these people are on the “roots of the tree” and prove the value of ideas. there are not many ideas which can survive with their realities over the centuries. permanente mobili(storica) institution is one of them.
"
... here there is a lot of history, a lot of sap that one day or another will let the tree become luxuriant again.

WATERFRONT COMMUNITY
ACADEMIC WORK | 9-17MAY.2015 (ONE WEEK WORKSHOP) | SITE: PARK PRIJATELITSVA (BELGRADE, SERBIA) | TYPE: MARINE DESIGN
76
This one week architecture international workshop aims at exploring inovative solutions for new marine design in contemporary scenario. Providing high quality spaces near waterfront to the demands of modern life.
BACKGROUND: Belgrade is the captial and largest city of Serbia, located at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, where the Pannonian Plain meets
the Balkans. It is a green city with great landscape, but sometimes have flooding problem during the raining season. There are lots of free waterfront spaces near rivers, this project located in park Prijatelitsva where wild nature frames the flowing of Sava into Danube. The location has a beautiful landscape and good view, also it near the main walk path of the park. But during the raining season, the water line could raises to 10 meters. So how to create a multi-functional relaxing marine space where can also be used during flooding time will becomes a challenge.
CONCEPT: This design will build a waterfront community that combines new Belgrade city, Daube river, nature environment and citizen's activities together. At the same time providing a nice resting place, a meeting point to ship owners, citizens and tourists.

ACADEMIC WORK | 09-16 JAN.2016 | SITE: POLITECNICO DI MILANO LEONARDO CAMPUS (MILAN, ITALY)| TYPE: URBAN FURNITURE DESIGN
Finding problems and creating atmosphere inside the campus. This design work aims at using design methods to active more activities at school. Defining unique school spirits and spreading them.
BACKGROUND: The project is located in Politecnico di Milano, Leonardo Campus where is
a strategic place in the city of Milan. Although the campus is an efficient platform where thousands of people travel and work everyday, but doesn't have all the features of a civil, truly habitable urban place and there is a shortage of places for meeting & socialisation, lack of representative places where the university presents itself to the city and the world. This design will focus on these problems expecially on school indication/orientation/circulation problems, besides to provide more space for students, more fun activities and spread school spirits.
