A Proposed Seaport Terminal

Location: Municipality of Liloan, Cebu City

Category: Commercial/ Industrial

A contemporary design concept that focuses on the use of locally-based materials together in representing the unique identity of Liloanons that can be able to cater to passengers and cargo. It has a redeveloped plaza that will be beneficial for users since it improves overall health both physically and mentally. It utilizes space as efficiently as possible while complementing the whole structure. However, it does not overpower nearby homes, nature, and city zoning rather considers it. It gives extra attention to natural light levels which makes use of large windows or multiple smaller windows to bring in natural light without compromising the levels of privacy and ensuring the comfortability of users. Creating an aesthetically pleasing design, structural efficiency, and use of spaces while minimizing unnecessary structural add-ons. Contemporary designs give room for future expansions and most importantly, it is earth-friendly by not being wasteful with materials, reducing energy, and water consumption, and recycles.

This proposal undergoes a process of lighting and daylighting simulation, and application of strategies where heat or glare will not radiate inside, which eventually best reflects a bustling terminal. Research of the existing conditions of the location was used as a base before applying additional interventions to the design to understand its effect on the overall concept and what it represents.

A Proposed General Hospital

A green architecture concept that considers not just the users but the environment as well, and at the same time, is sensitive to the differently-abled people for their safety and comfortability through universal design. Green architecture also helps in the overall thermal control, air quality, noise absorption within the hospital which has a concept of biophilia in some areas. The hospital will not only provide the best possible cure for its patients but also be considerate for them in every possible way. It has a garden view in every rooms and a roof garden perfect for relaxation and vegetation purposes.

Cube-like form as the initial start of the design. Separation of the different zones according to its purpose and connectivity in order to create easy flow of access, comfortability in atmosphere and a more interesting proportion.

A two-hands building form concept that is being expressed in geometric shape. It creates an opportunity for a natural ventilation and exposure to nature all around the hospital, creating a serene environment inside.

The common area while is inviting and relaxing, also serves as a visual connection from one building zone to the other. It is in a geometric form concept of Danao City’s map to have a grounded and centered effect to the location.

A Proposed Extended Emergency Facility

Location: Central Nautical Highway Danao City, Cebu

Category: Institutional

The Extended Emergency Facility is a state of the art facility. It can be shipped or move anywhere suitable for longer or shorter needs. From a solid building that can be transformed into a transportable prefab unit. No foundation is needed for the pods due to its stainless steel legs that can adjust even for uneven ground level. Not only is this sustainable solution effective for our isolation rooms but also for the nurse’s station and testing area since this innovative solution is adjustable where it can be joined either end to end, side to side or stacked up to create the desired form of the structure.

The expansion is self-deployed and can open up to about 3x its transport size. The furniture and appliances inside the pods are integrated inside and each unit is completely wired and has pipes in the walls for plumbing and/or ac purposes. It leaves ample room for systems and any other needed equipment.

The hospital and extended emergency facility uses eco-friendly strategies that can benefit both the users and the environment. It uses air spades, solar tubes, rainwater harvesting, solar panels, AeREUS system, green wall and roof, and LiteBlock material.

Specifically for the isolation room, it uses materials like adjustable stainless steel legs, plastic porta potty toilet, stainless steel sink, and container van walls.

A Proposed Two-Storey House Tropical Design

Location: Talisay City, Cebu

Category: Residential

A two-storey residential house in a shared block with a friend. It is a tropical design house that is sensitive to the environment around, the heat of the sun or the wind. Available ventilation around to make use of the cold weather in the area. It still has small vertical gardens for redirecting heat. Additional overhang from the second floor to provide shade for the window below. With the use of vertical louvers or vertical garden in the window area so that it can diffuse the direct heat from the sun and create movement in the interior. In the roof top, it makes use of solar panels to reduce the energy use in the house. Passive design makes users feel the concept of “inside-out and outside-in”. It undergoes a process of assessments and recommendations through sun path & shading study, wind path study, and each part of the structure is calculated for its average daylight factor (ADF).

There is landscape present all around the house to act as vertical barriers against the sun. Ventilation is available all throughout the house for removing of ‘stale’ air and replace it with ‘fresh’ air. This helps to moderate internal temperatures.

A Proposed Pavilion

The Hagdan-Hagdang is a pavilion that embraces the idea of a beautiful yet functional lounge that will be available to everybody. It is a place where students can study, unwind and relax, hold practices and events.

It is inspired by the structure of the Banaue Rice Terraces but instead of using organic lines alone, it is combined with geometric lines. It best reflects the artistic differences of students and can cater up to 25-30 students without the feeling of being too overcrowded.
