The chart consists of 6 years of Part I crimes which include Homicide, Rape, Robbery, Assaults, Arson, Burglaries, Thefts and Motor Vehicle Thefts. The Celina Police Department has released its 2015 – Annual Report. Assistant Police Chief Tony Griggs states in the report that “2015 is a year of significant accomplishments for the Celina Police Department and the Celina community. These accomplishments are attributable to the dedicated service performed by our officers, administrative personnel, and the involvement of our community.”
Griggs said that National Night Out is a community wide event where neighbors join with neighbors to demonstrate their resolve to keep Celina safe. In addition, the block parties collected needed items for Hope’s Door and increased awareness of domestic violence.
Celina has experienced steady growth and population increase since 2010, but Part I crimes have decreased by 43.91%. Chief Griggs contributes this decrease in crime to the partnership between the police department and the community. The police department operates under the philosophy of community policing and seeks to form partnerships with the community to address crime and the fear of crime. “We have a very engaged community and we work together to achieve our common goal of keeping Celina a safe place to visit, live, work, and raise families,” Griggs said. Chief Griggs points out a great example of a police-community partnership is our initiative to prevent domestic violence and increase safety for victims. The initiative which began in 2014 has resulted in a 17.70% decrease in domestic violence offenses. In addition, through the community’s partnership with Hope’s Door, a domestic violence service provider, and the implementation of the National Lethality Assessment Program - Maryland Model, safety for the victims of domestic violence has been increased. During 2015, the police department implemented procedural justice as a way to increase trust and legitimacy within the community. Chief Griggs said that procedural justice allows us to focus on treating everyone with fairness and impartiality. We want all of our community members to have a voice in how our community is policed. National Night Out 2015 is also highlighted in the Annual Report. Chief

CISD News
From the Desk of Mr. Rick DeMasters 2016 Celina ISD Superintendent of Schools Playwright T.S. Eliot once said, “April is the cruelest month.” It is that time of year that the dreariness of winter fades into rain filled days that announce the coming of spring. It is a time of plans and projects with teachers utilizing every minute of class time in order to prepare their students for upcoming state exams. It is a month that brings about the reality that with each passing day graduation time draws nearer and those things that have become familiar will now be overshadowed by the experiences that come with college and life after high school. Just a glance at the CISD district calendar reveals numerous games, meets, contests, fundraisers, and performances on any given week throughout the month of April. Baseball, golf, softball, and track will all be finishing up their seasons anticipating play-off schedules with hopes of culminating their seasons for a run at a coveted state title. The Celina Association of Renaissance Excellence (C.A.R.E.) will host the Ladies Brunch and Auction entitled “Boots and Bling,” on Saturday, April 2nd in the CHS cafeteria. Money generated through their fundraisers supports the academic needs on each of our campuses. Over 140,000 dollars has been raised for scholarships over the last three years and awarded to graduating seniors. We appreciate this wonderful organization and the support they give to our students. It is also that time of year when our Celina High School Fine Arts Department prepares for upcoming festivals and competitions. Our CHS Theatre Department hosted District One Act Play competition right before

spring break. Eight schools performed their plays to three judges and an audience filled with parents and peers. Argyle, Celina, and Gainesville One Act Plays were chosen from our district to compete in the Bi-District contest set for Saturday, April 2nd, at Celina High School starting at 12:00pm. These three schools will be joined with three schools from District 10 to determine who will advance to the Regional competition. All performances are free to the public and it is a time to witness young actors mastering their craft. Who knows, one of these actors could be a famous film star of tomorrow! The CHS Concert Choir will be competing in the UIL Concert and SightReading contest on April 12th at the Allen High School Performing Arts Center. The students have been preparing for this competition, as well as selecting music for their Spring Show coming up on May 12th. Our CHS Bobcat Band has a busy month packed with contests and concerts. The UIL Concert and Sight-Reading contest will be held on April 15th at Pottsboro High School. The Sounds of Spring contest will be held on April 23rd. You won’t want to miss the CHS Spring concert on April 19th in the CHS Auditorium. For many of these students, it will be their last performance as a Bobcat Band member while signaling the start of their college band careers. As we get closer to the end of the school year, the calendar appears to be void of open dates due to the many UIL activities, concerts, fundraisers, and contests that stack up during the months of April and May. T.S. Eliot may have thought that April was the cruelest month, but in the Celina School District, it is a month filled with opportunities for our students to share their many talents and fill a rainy day with hope for the future.

It’s Time To Kick Up Your Boots Bayou Style By Jodie Brownd Blancett
Cajun Musicians in the world, all of which have either been nominated or actually won Grammys for their high energy tunes. Don’t forget your lawn chairs, as seating will be limited.
If you’ve ever been in Celina for a football game, pep rally or any celebration in general, you know that the hometown people of Bobcat Country don’t do things halfway. That’s why, on Saturday, April the 9th, from 11:00a.m. to 11p.m. it’s time to kick up your boots bayou style and celebrate the festivities surrounding the now 4-year tradition of Cajun Fest, held in Downtown Celina.
1:30pm to 3pm - The Pine Leaf Boys 3:30pm to 5pm - Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys 5:30pm to 6:30pm - The Band Courtbouillon 7:00 to 8:30pm - Roddie Romero and the Hub City All Stars 9pm to 11pm - Wayne Toups
Michael Montgomery, the Administrative Services Manager in Celina says that when the downtown square was refurbished, they created the event to showcase the pride in their town and bring people both young and old to the downtown area to highlight what the Hometown Square in Celina has to offer. Clearly, they were on to something as the event has grown by leaps and bounds since it originated in March of 2013.
If you just can’t sit still with all of the action, you can join in on dance lessons or go for a stroll to set your eyes on an awesome collection of cars in the car exhibit. The Metroplex Corvette Club will have over 50 corvettes for you to view and dream about. If you’d like to show off your own pride and joy, you can contact HNorris@Celinatx.gov to register your own Corvette for a small registration fee.
You can’t have a Cajun Celebration without Crawfish, and the 10,000 pounds that were boiled the first year, has now grown to a whopping 46,000 pounds. (Yes! You read that right.) Duane’s Crawfish from Ville Platte, Louisiana brings them straight from home, fresh and ready to boil, which is an experience all its own if you’ve never experienced it. With over 50 vendors joining in on the food and fun, serving dishes such as Boudin and Etouffee, you don’t have to travel to Louisiana to get a taste of spice in your life, Cajun Style.
Needless to say, if you’ve never been to Cajun Fest, prepare to have the entire family entertained. With local businesses around the square, open for the event, you’ll have the opportunity to find treasures of all sorts and buy local. You can also let the kiddos enjoy many child friendly activities while you take in the sites. There will be free parking at Celina Elementary, (just South of the Square) and at Celina Middle School on Pecan Street. Dogs are allowed on leashes, but no outside coolers will be allowed. It will be a guaranteed good time for the entire family. Come enjoy a little bit of Bobcat Country, Cajun Style. We hope to see you there!
While you enjoy the festivities and what is predicted to be beautiful weather, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy the most talented Zydeco and

Grace Bridge Celebrating 5 Years of Hope Served Here
By Alyssa Heffley
On Saturday, April 9, 2011, 40 volunteers arrived at 319 W. Walnut Street around the corner from the square in downtown Celina to distribute boxes of food to local families. Little did they know that this was not just an event, but the birth of Grace Bridge Food Bank – a thriving organization which has since expanded to meet a variety of needs in the community. As Grace Bridge celebrates its 5th Anniversary this month, it’s an opportunity to celebrate the positive impact it’s had - only made possible by the support of the community! Since opening in 2011, Grace Bridge Food Bank has expanded to include ongoing initiatives such as a free eye care clinic, Grace Bridge Farms community gardens, Grace Bridge Resale Store, and Neighbor-to-Neighbor Disaster Relief. In addition, Grace Bridge hosts annual events to meet specific needs throughout the year including 2 See With Love eye care clinic awareness, I Got Your Back backpack and school supply drive, Gotcha Cover’d coats, jeans, and diaper drive, summer Kids Camp, 82 Days of Summer fundraiser, Day of Thanks Thanksgiving Celebration, Bikes & Bibles Christmas gift giveaway and more. Partnerships with churches in surrounding communities have allowed Grace Bridge to support families outside of its 25-mile primary service area. Grace Bridge now has limited distribution sites in West Tennessee

(The Highlands Church), Valley View, TX (Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church) and McKinney, TX (Parkway Baptist Church). In addition, partnerships with churches in the area including First Baptist Celina, Prestonwood North Campus, Heartland Church, Lifeway Church, Living Springs Fellowship, Frisco Bible Church, Bethel Baptist Church, and more, allow Grace Bridge to serve the community through designated projects and gifts. More than a dozen school groups and business teams have volunteered at Grace Bridge for work days, accomplishing countless projects at the Food Bank, Resale Store, Warehouse and Grace Bridge Farms. In 2016, Grace Bridge plans to take on a new venture by constructing a large, multi-purpose building, which will allow staff, operations, distributions, donations, and more to be under one roof – a vital next step in order to continue serving the community well. Grace Bridge is thankful for every individual served, volunteer, donor, community partner, local church, and business who has made the past 5 years not only possible, but also incredibly successful. We can only dream of the opportunities to Serve Hope in the community in the years ahead!

In His Presence
I love SPRING!
Spring can mean many things. Spring is a season. Spring is a coil in a bed-foundation. Spring is water emerging from the earth. Spring is momentum forward. SPRING is a verb. Although I arrived in Texas as soon as I could, I wasn’t born here. I was born and raised for the first twelve years of my life in a rural community in Southwest Missouri. Winters there could be beautiful but they also could be very brutal. A Southwest Missouri winter is said to be BRUTIFUL. The long months of cold forced me inside, all the while longing for the warmth of the sun to put an end to the dreary days. It was SPRING, in all its glory, that kept my hope alive. It was SPRING that promised me that brighter and warmer days were ahead. The kinder temperatures allowed me to venture outside play my guitar on my front porch swing without frozen fingers. The melting snow revealed a lush lawn…. Which would eventually need frequent mowing… a task I did not protest. Well…. We had a riding lawn mower. Then at the age of 13 our family relocated to North Texas….told you, I got here as soon as I could! The winters here are neither harsh, nor recognizable. Oh, we may have an occasional stretch of cold or winter precipitation, causing cities to literally shut down; however, winter here is nothing like the winters our neighbors to the north experience. Yet, even in the warmer climate of Texas, SPRING remained and still is a staple every single year: in the physical and spiritual rhythm of my life. Texas winters are not necessarily measured by sleet, snow, ice or isolation. They are measured by the absence of GREEN, LIFE and GROWTH. Song of Solomon 2:11-12 11 For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone; 12 The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land; So, “Does our SPRING differ according to the magnitude of our winter?” No matter where we live, what we do, or who we are: SPRING is a verb – and it emerges regardless of our season of dormancy. We may be thick into the winter: with challenges, issues, problems, illness, stress… but SPRING beckons us to a NEW SEASON. Nichole Nordeman’s song, “Every Season”, says, And everything in time and under heaven Finally falls asleep. Wrapped in blankets white, all creation Shivers underneath And still I notice you when branches crack And in my breath on frosted glass Even now in death, You open doors for life to enter You are winter And everything that’s new has bravely surfaced Teaching us to breathe And what was frozen through is newly purposed Turning all things green So it is with You and how You make me new With every season’s change And so it will be as You are re-creating me summer, autumn, winter, SPRING I find this to be among the finest lyrical depictions of Christ’s perpetual, continual, cyclical work in our lives – DEMONSTRATING & DESCRIBING Himself through creation - expressed by seasons. Proving that SPRING is a verb. Rev Brad Wilkerson Lead Pastor | Church of Celebration Metro cocmetro.com 28691 Harper Road | Prosper, TX 469-815-5253

Mary was there every time we needed anything and helped answer all of our questions thoroughly. I would highly recommend her.”- Ashley P Review
