Town Matters By Mayor Ray Smith

We were officially in our new building as of July 30, and I hope you and your family have had a chance to come see the new Town Hall and Community Library. That name is a mouthful, but don’t worry, people will soon start calling it either Town Hall or the Library, depending on their specific reason for visiting. Our Town joins the growing list of suburbs on the northern edge of the Dallas Fort Worth metropolitan area that are on an unprecedented growth and development push. Our new Town Hall is symbolic of that growth. If you attended the Open House on August 2, you may have sat through our State of the Town presentation. That’s a presentation that we put together on an annual basis to share information on how the Town is progressing. During the State of the Town presentation, I shared quite a few facts and figures related to Prosper’s growth. Perhaps the most impressive was the number of single-family residential permits that have been approved by the Town’s Development Services Department. That number has steadily grown over the last several years. It reached a new record last year at 756 permits.

Gates of Prosper development, work has concentrated on the east side of Preston Road and Hwy. 380. In that center alone, 47 shops and businesses are either open or will open very soon. Work will begin on the west side of Preston Road as well, completing that massive development that serves as a welcome to people coming from the south. On the far west, Windsong Ranch Marketplace and West Fork Crossing along Hwy. 380 and Gee Road have a combined 13 businesses open, including a Kroger and RaceTrac. Those two developments are expecting to open another 21 businesses in the near future.

Singlefamily Residential Permits

This year, the combination of new start-up developments and a mild winter, which allowed for fairly-constant construction is set to shatter that record. We’re only half-way through the year, and already the 2018 total for the first two quarters is 546 permits. If that trend continues, we are on a pace to reach over 1,100 permits in 2018. Side by side with the residential growth is the commercial and retail expansion that we are witnessing on a daily basis. In the

The Shops at Prosper Trail at Preston Road and Prosper Trail now has 19 businesses open, including the Town’s first Kroger. That busy shopping center is expecting another four businesses to open their doors relatively soon. Prosper Plaza at Hwy. 380 and Custer Road has 11 businesses open, including a Lowes Home Improvement, and is expecting two more businesses to open, including the Town’s third Kroger.

Prosper Celebrates the Grand Opening of the New Town Hall & Library

By Jodie Brownd

In a town that has a strong heritage and firm roots, Prosper is growing at warped speed…and one might wonder what goes on in a Town Hall Grand Opening. There’s a natural curiosity from citizens. Those that have been here to see the transformation over the last decade, those who just moved here and those who dream of opening a business here. The most obvious questions asked before walking into the new Town Hall are, “How do you keep the nostalgia and quaint intimacy that lures people to a small town amid a growth spurt that would have been difficult to forecast? How will this sprawling and massive piece of architecture represent both the people who settled this town as well as the ones who are still to come?”

Address to have those questions answered. The building is exquisite and with a marriage of traditional architecture and modern sophistication, our new Town Hall gives all of us the best of both worlds. The structure speaks for itself and for each of the people that contributed to the vision of it. The style that can only be described as “traditionally transitional.” The building keeps one figurative foot in the past with the obvious pride in construction that gives 19th century architecture stability and character, while also having one leg up on modern convenience and technology that epitomizes modern class and luxury. The Open House event, where community members took tours and had the opportunity to ask questions of Council Members and staff, was also the perfect opportunity to hold the State of The Town Address. Mayor Ray Smith opened the meeting in the new Town Hall by honoring and thanking his wife, fellow council members and staff.

You need only to have stepped inside of Prosper’s new Town Hall on August 2nd for the Open House and State of the Town

Topics of discussion ranged from the future expansion of the North Dallas tollway, Single Family Residential Permits, Frontier Park Expansion, Awards for both the Police and Fire Stations to Population and Retail Growth. All information related to Public

Despite having covered much information regarding the growth of Prosper and its changes, the excitement surrounding the first time use of the new Town Hall and Community Library held the spotlight. In addition to office space for Town employees, the new structure provides technologically updated Council Chambers, giving the Council and selected boards, commissions, and committees a place for discussion and public planning.

The new building is situated between First and Broadway Streets in the area designated as the Old Town District. It was designed by Randall Scott Architects and construction was under the direction of Pogue Construction. “This project was a long row to hoe, it was also worth it,” said Mayor Smith about the massive planning and implementation of the building. The people of Prosper agree and it is with a sigh of relief that city employees all now have a place to call home. Whether you were born and raised in Prosper, or just moved in to our ever-growing town, there is something for everyone to enjoy and appreciate about the new Town Hall. It’s one more jewel on the map of Prosper history for generations, past, present and future, to enjoy.

2018 SMILE PROFILES Dr. Veronica Mueller Dr. Veronica Mueller, a Texas-educated dentist, opened her private practice in July of 2017. The daughter of a teacher and a career military officer, she grew up in multiple states and countries, but returned to her family’s home state of Texas as soon as she could. Veronica moved to Dallas to attend Southern Methodist University, completing a Bachelors of Science in Biology. She then moved to Houston to attend The University of Texas School of Dentistry, earning her Doctor of Dental Surgery. While living in the Houston Medical Center, Veronica took the opportunity to expand her repertoire by learning from some of the greatest minds in medicine. Upon completing her Doctor of Dental Surgery, Veronica practiced her profession in different settings, gaining knowledge of all types of dentistry. After gaining professional experience, Veronica and her husband, John, chose Prosper as the ideal place to put down roots. When drawing the plans for Gentle Creek Dental, Dr. Mueller knew she wanted to utilize the best equipment and newest technology. Before opening her office, she attended many trainings and C.E. in order to decide on the best equipment and to make sure she was up to date on all the latest technology and techniques. Digital radiography was a must have for her practice. This technology takes the fastest x-rays with the least amount of radiation. And not only are all her x-rays digital, so are the charting and files, eliminating most paperwork. Along with a hand-held X-Ray system, they also use intra oral pictures to help in the diagnosing for your treatment plan. Dr. Mueller is very proud to use digital scanning. Not only is it a great time saver for the patients, it’s pretty cool too. When needing a dental appliance (crown, bridge, retainer etc.) that must be fabricated in the lab, your teeth are scanned instead of using the goopy, old-school dental impressions. After the scan is complete, you can see the 3D image on the computer screen. It can be rotated, zoomed and much more. And since the files are digital, they can be effortlessly sent to the lab, saving time and eliminating steps that could lead to distortions. This is Dr. Mueller’s favorite tech toy. As technology advances, many more additions may be implemented. Dr. Mueller’s core belief is that lifelong learning is critical to providing excellent care and optimal health. She is proud to be the 3rd generation of dentists in her family. Dedicated to creating a dental practice focused on the needs of the people she serves, she sums up her objective quite simply with saying, “My goal is to have a dental practice that offers everything that I want as a patient.” She invites you to stop by her offices, take the grand tour, and visit with the Gentle Creek Dental Family. They are open Tuesday through Friday, with Saturday hours by appointment.

2018 SMILE PROFILES Dr. Jill Sentlingar and Dr. Cara Kessler Dr. Jill’s vision for a family dental practice began before she graduated from dental school. She dreamed of creating a comfortable space for patients of all ages to build lifelong relationships with her dental team. Over the years, the space has grown, the technology has advanced, and a few of the faces have changed. One thing has remained unchanged: this office’s commitment to people. “We are inspired daily by the people we serve. We are motivated to advance our education, our technology, and our methods by the people we serve. We are honored that dentistry gives us the opportunity to serve people.” – Dr. Jill Prosper Family Dentistry was the first dental office in the town of Prosper. Since 2004, the team has provided excellent dental care with genuine compassion for the people of Prosper and the surrounding communities. As the town has grown, so has the office. Throughout all of the changes, this team has consistently treated their patients with the highest level of dental care, focused on building relationships, creating comfort, and improving each patient’s quality of life. “Our commitment is to people, and our specific area of expertise is oral health. Because we understand what a vital role oral health plays in one’s overall health, we look at the person as a whole. The biggest compliment I’ve received from a patient is “That was the most thorough dental exam I’ve ever had!” That means I did my job well.” – Dr. Cara Dr. Jill and Dr. Cara are both passionate about learning as much as possible in order to treat the complex health issues people face today. One specific area in which they excel is the TMJ. This joint has confounded patients and dentists alike for decades. At PFD, the dentists look at the joint as it relates to your teeth, jaws, and entire body. These doctors know that not every person’s “TMJ” is the same. They have invested in advanced education, training, and technology so they can correctly diagnose and properly treat each individual’s unique TMJ problem. This commitment to learning fuels their commitment to advanced technology. Using state-of-the-art equipment produces elite dental care with improved safety, greater efficiency, and better comfort. 3D imaging gives more information with less radiation. An intraoral scanner means no more gagging on dental impressions. The CariVu shows the extent of cracks and cavities without x-rays. A dental laser provides minimally invasive gum treatments that heal extremely fast. “We truly provide family dentistry. We see children as young as 1-year-old, and our oldest patient is over 100! It’s an honor to treat three or four generations of the same family.” – Dr. Jill From charity dentistry for people in need to athletic mouthguards for PHS football players to supporting organizations like Cornerstone and Bethlehem Place, this office is serious about giving back to the community. To see more of their good-hearted adventures, follow them on Facebook!

2018 SMILE PROFILES Dr. Tom Bietsch CONVENIENCE…EXPERIENCE…EXCELLENCE! Dr. Bietsch focuses on these three factors for all of his patients. His goal is to make every appointment convenient for his patients and their family. Imagine, you are in the middle of your work day and your child’s orthodontic appointment is in thirty minutes. Instead of leaving work early to drive across town so you can pick your child up from school and take them to their appointment, you were able to stay at work while your child was able to make their orthodontic appointment. Well, you can if your child is a patient at Bietsch Orthodontics. Dr. Bietsch built a thirty-six-foot custom mobile orthodontic office for his patients that goes to your child’s school. Dr. Bietsch’s “Bietsch Brace Bus” has everyone talking and for good reason. Parents couldn’t be happier with the ease of one less appointment that they have to manage into their already busy schedule. Parents receive a video update of their child and Dr. Bietsch at the time of their appointment that explains how their child’s orthodontic treatment is progressing. Parents win here at Bietsch Orthodontics because we bring orthodontics to the schools, so they do not have to miss any work. Students win as well because they are out of class much less time and do not have to miss that after school practice or game because they needed to go to their orthodontic appointment. Dr. Bietsch sees how demanding parent’s schedules are and even more with multiple children, that is why he has created the mobile brace bus; a service that makes ortho appointments for your child and you more convenient. Dr. Bietsch travels with most of his team too. At all mobile bus appointments, your child will be accompanied by Dr. Bietsch, his treatment coordinator, scheduling coordinator and his three-chair side ortho assistants. Long appointments such as getting braces put on or taken off will be done in the primary office at Bietsch Orthodontics, but all adjustment appointments can be accommodated at your child’s school. Dr. Bietsch has treated over 10,000 patients in his nineteen-year career as an orthodontist. He uses this experience to customize treatment plans for every patient to give them a unique beautiful smile. Everyone is unique; therefore, every patient gets a smile that is all their own. The convenience of Dr. Bietsch’s mobile bus, combined with his nineteen years of experience, and his ability to create custom, beautiful smiles sets his practice apart from any other orthodontic office in Texas. His unbelievable care for each patient and ability to create perfection within your child’s smile is why so many parents and patients love going to Bietsch Orthodontics.

2018 SMILE PROFILES Dr. Travis Campbell Dr. Travis Campbell graduated from Baylor University where he studied Biology, Chemistry, and Computer Science. He received his doctorate from Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas in 2009. Dr. Campbell has patients referred from Prosper, Frisco, McKinney, and surrounding cities all over Collin County! He and his wife Susan, love the small community feel of this area which made it the location of choice to plant roots and raise their daughter, and soon to be born, son. “I have wanted to be a dentist since I was 5. I have always enjoyed going to the dentist, and yet most people I know, including my father, have had the opposite reaction about their he experiences. That difference spurred my interest in learning more about dentistry and was my driving force while obtaining my education. It has helped me in designing an office centered around comfort for all dental patients, with special focus on helping those with previously poor experiences have a great one.” Giving back to the community is a specific joy for Dr. Campbell. He has hosted and served at dental charity events through Dentistry from The Heart for 8 years. He truly appreciates the opportunity to work with such wonderful patients and enjoys establishing long-term relationships with his patients and their families.

His greatest joy in dentistry comes from educating his patients on their oral health and maintaining those long-term relationships through future generations. In addition to dentistry, Dr. Campbell enjoys reading, volleyball, computers,

TIPS FOR OVERCOMING BACK TO SCHOOL BUTTERFLIES By: Rosh R, Owner of Kiddie Academy of Prosper

Who remembers getting the jitters when a new school year rolled around?

times with soon-to-be peers will help on the first day of school, when they see familiar faces.

Whether you were filled with excitement or felt downright uneasy, every parent can recall what the back-to-school butterflies felt like. If your kids are starting to feel the blues right about now, remind them that going back to school doesn't have to be a drag!

Both parents and teachers want back-to-school to be one of the most exciting times of the year for kids. Let's encourage our children to recognize the gift of education in their lives and create a love of learning.

Start preparing now to make those first weeks easier for your kids – and yourself!

I am Rosh R, the owner of Kiddie Academy of Prosper, located at 650 North Preston Road. We are excited to open our brand-new, state-of-the-art academy in the Fall of 2018 serving the Prosper and Celina communities. We serve children ages 6 weeks through 12 years. The educational programs at Kiddie Academy of Prosper emphasize continuous, open communication between teachers and parents concerning each child’s development. But most importantly, we learn while we’re having fun. We invite children to embark on the Kiddie Academy journey that will enable them to learn and grow socially, physically and intellectually.

In this month’s article, I’m sharing useful advice for transitioning from summer to school. Brace your little ones for the year ahead with these tips from a teacher's point of view: Make it a topic of frequent conversation. Remind your kids that back to school fears and anxieties are very common and many children have similar experiences before the first day starts. Be positive and encouraging when talking about school, because kids look to their parents during times of uncertainty. If they see their parent confident and excited about school, it will help them relax. Take a field trip to the school. During the weekend or even after dinner, gather your family and make an adventure out of seeing the new school. Even if the school isn’t “new” to your kids, their classes and play area might be different. Parents should try to take their kids to the school's playground to play once or twice before school starts. This will help them see that school is fun and show them what their school day will be like. Initiate a playdate to help kids reconnect. Many parents attend an open house or meeting before school is in session. Strike up a conversation with other parents and schedule a playdate. Getting reacquainted with old friends or setting aside some time to meet new classmates can help ease a lot of anxiety for kids. These fun
