Knowsley jobs joy for specialist contractor by Neil Hodgson LDP STAFF

A YEAR after a Scottish specialist contractor opened a site on Knowsley Business Park, creating 80 jobs, it has announced expansion plans that will lead to the recruitment of a further 40 staff. Paisley-based IQA Group provides a variety of services, including electrical internal mains, cable jointing, building maintenance and civil works on behalf of large companies, such as Merseyside electricity provider Scottish Power. The jobs boost comes as the firm launches a sister company, Innovo

Energy, which is a renewable energy business that will deliver sustainable and renewable energy to homes and premises across the UK. Carl Rugen, electrical operations manager for IQA Group, in the North West, said: “We will be looking to recruit more employees in the New Year through our sister company, Innovo, which will provide renewable energy products, such as solar panels, heat pumps and wind turbines to homes and businesses. “This is great news and comes after a really successful first year in Merseyside where we have been carrying out various projects for Scottish Power. “Our work also includes the replac-

ing of electrical network cables as part of a large, on-going project in Speke.” He added: “We feel we are in a great location which is working well for us. We looked at potential bases across Merseyside, but opted for Knowsley because it is so central, with great transport links.” With two offices in Scotland, the company chose to set up a third base in Merseyside last year, to service an increasing number of Scottish Power contracts that it had secured in the region. A total of 80 people were recruited, including office staff, electricians and cable jointers, and the company has recently invested in a fleet of 27 new vans. Across its three sites, IQA,

headed by recently appointed managing director Gregory AddisonSmyth, employs 250 people. Knowsley Chamber of Commerce provided support for IQA. Chamber chief executive Lesley Martin-Wright said: “I am really encouraged that IQA has enjoyed such a successful first year and is in a position to create further jobs in the borough, particularly in such a tough economic climate. “I am delighted that they chose Knowsley. “At the Chamber, we are doing all we can to support businesses like IQA, and can provide assistance to any firms considering opening a base in the borough or re-locating here.”
