WIRRAL site manager has been commended for running one of the safest building sites in the UK by the National House Building Council (NHBC).

Redrow Homes’ site manager Tony Gordon, who oversees operations at Dibbin Brook, off New Chester Road in Bromborough, has been recognised for his best practice approach to health and safety. He is one of just 25 site managers, out of hundreds in the country, to pick up a commendation award in the ‘large builder’ category at the 2012 NHBC Health and Safety Awards. Now in their third year, they are the only awards scheme of their kind designed solely for

house builders. Commended site managers will be judged by an independent panel of experts, who will then announce overall winners for each category. Tony said: “We take pride in our excellent health and safety record on site and we are very pleased that this has been recognised by the NHBC. The wellbeing of our employees, sub contractors and visitors remains a top priority and this has a direct impact on the quality of the homes we build.” Tony, who lives in Irlam, has previously won two consecutive NHBC Pride in the Job quality awards in 2010 and 2011, placing him in the top 400 site managers UK-wide. Last year he also fronted Redrow’s national marketing campaign, ‘Our Pride – Your Joy’, which used real

staff members instead of actors in TV, internet, magazine, newspaper and billboard promotions. The NHBC is the leading standard-setting and consumer protection body for new homes in the UK. Its awards scheme rewards well-managed sites and companies that can demonstrate effective health and safety planning and execution, engaged workforces and the best health and safety management systems. With an independent judging panel comprising representatives from the HSE, ConstructionSkills and Constructing Better Health, the awards are supported by some leading industry bodies and MPs from all political parties.
