At the Farm - Inglis, Manitoba
Welcome to the family Lainey Johnson Welcome to the family Calder Robert Lee DoonancoThank you for taking the time to look through our catalog and considering High Bluff Stock Farm bulls and females for your herd. This is our 20th sale – wow time flies! Thanks to everyone who has supported our bull sale the last 20 years and helped us grow; we couldn’t do what we love to do without our customers. A couple new things this year - In the cattle world we’re known as High Bluff Stock Farm: this year our Simmental cattle now have the High Bluff prefix in front of their name instead of our tattoo letters. Also new this year we have a guest consigner, Paxhill Farm, Tyler Digby from Dropmore consigning Black Angus bulls. Please join us in welcoming Tyler!
On the bull side to meet the variety of our customers’ needs we have easy calvers and performance bulls in both the Charolais and Simmental breeds, no matter the breed or style all have been selected for disposition and sound structure, no exceptions. If you are able to stop by we’d be pleased to take you through the bulls before the sale or give us a call anytime to talk about your herdsire needs. We love talking cattle and finding a bull that will be a good fit for your herd.
On the female side we’re pleased to be offering females in our sale once again this year. These are honest, hard working females that could go into commercial or purebred herds alike, we’d be happy to help identify which females would match your needs.
We will be hosting our 20th sale in person, it will be a video sale broadcasted on DLMS. We would love to see you sale day but if you have rather enjoyed staying at home and watching the sale on-line while leaving a bid with one of us or our sales team, bidding from the comfort of your home on the phone or on DLMS then by all means please do what makes you happy. Our pens are available to tour anytime. Videos of the bulls and heifers will be posted on-line at cattlevids.ca
On the family front we have lots of exciting news-Autumn and Remiel and older siblings Grayson and Mila welcomed Calder in May. Stephen and I bought a house in Inglis and welcomed our little girl Lainey into the family in November. For those of you that haven’t met Stephen yet, Stephen comes from a grain and purebred Charolais background and we all feel pretty lucky that he has joined the High Bluff family and brought some Johnson Charolais females with him. We’re so lucky to farm with family and get to spend so much quality time with all of our family throughout the year. The contributions of our family and the folks who work on the farm, who pretty much are family, can’t go understated.
We’re looking forward to spending another year doing all the things we love.

Donna and
started High Bluff Stock Farm in 1984. They have worked hard to grow their Charolais and Simmental purebred herd and grain production to what it is today. Carman and Donna are excited to be able to farm alongside their family.
Erin and Stephen- Erin has always been active on the farm and has been home farming full time for the last 6 years; specializing in agronomy and the purebred cattle enterprise. This year Stephen has joined her and they now spend date nights snuggling a baby, calving cows and working on a crop plan.
Tomina Jackson- Tomina in an integral part of all the day-to-day activities in the grain and livestock operations. She specializes in being our barn mom and chief combine driver and mechanic. She spends Wednesdays and her weekends working on her Rolling D Workwear line.
Fawn Jackson- Fawn heads up the High Bluff PR department. She manages our social media accounts, helps with bull sale preparation and makes sure we are getting a show string ready to take out in the fall so she can spend her holidays doing what she loves the most- showing cattle!
Ang Becker- Ang joined the High Bluff team a couple years ago during calving season. Turns out the Aussie who started not liking being outside during winter has had a change of heart and now happily tolerates working outside all winter as long as it includes working with baby calves.
Jules Smyth- Jules has been helping casually on the farm for around 8 years. She’s now away at University at Oklahoma but we are lucky that she still likes to spend her summers at home and working at High Bluff during her time off. Jules is a jack of all trades when it comes to our cattle operations and yard duties.

January 2023 Breed Average EPD’s and order in catalog: Charolais
High Bluff Stock Farms 20th Anniversary Bull and Female Sale is a very exciting milestone and is hosted by great people. The Jackson family have been breeding and raising Charolais and Simmental cattle for many years and have become one of the major seed stock producers in Western Canada for fresh new and exciting genetics.
The way I see it HBSF has many exciting years ahead in the beef industry. The resiliency, dedication and determination put forth by this great family, at High Bluff Stock Farms, is second to none in today's agriculture industry. Repeat customers, new buyers, registered and commercial producers have successfully purchased bulls and females from the HBSF program.
This year's 20th edition is as deep and good in quality I've seen both in the Charolais and Simmental divisions respectively . The Charolais bulls truly offer something for everyone. These young herdsires are as stout, hairy and correct as you will find. They have been selected for performance, longevity and phenotype. The Simmental offering is equally as strong and are selected for the same traits with the same goals in mind - producing a top quality end product that will raise the bar on your calf crop at weaning time, bulls that have a little extra frame and are as big butted, big bodied and as hairy as one would want.
You can be assured that every bull on offer is backed by a quality dam. The HBSF cowherd is functional, sound and highly productive. The select group of females on offer are from the same proven genetics as the bulls. Females that very well could go on and be foundation females for the most astute cattlemen. Please join us and enjoy the great hospitality along with a great set of Charolais and Simmental cattle that will be on offer. Friday March 17th at the ranch in Inglis, Manitoba
Please feel free to give us a call at Transcon to assist you with any information, appraisals or bidding/buying assistance that may be required in the event you are unable to attend.

100K Test Pending. A great bull needs a great cow backing him and that’s exactly what we have here! Kolter is our pick of the Three Thieves bull crop phenotypically but also because his dam is one of our favorites around here. 72F is a feminine, moderate Triumph female, with a beautiful udder, she is big ribbed and has a great production record already.
We are excited about the future of this herd sire! A bull that was a standout since birth and we have enjoyed watching him grow and develop; we are continually impressed by this individual. Kolter is sound structured, good footed, nice skulled, excellent haired and has a nice mix of calving ease and performance.
Top end herd sire prospect here!

Another Three Thieves bull that carries the Three Thieves stamp - nicely made, smooth but well muscled and soft sided, hair, clean fronted with a good-looking skull. His dam is a moderate, big volumed, good uddered, good looking Triumph cow.

Performance and style with great weaning and yearling weights in this Three Thieves son! He ranks 2nd in our Charolais bulls in both weaning and yearling weights. Kissinger has caught the attention of many visitors to the bull pen. He is powerful, smooth made, long bodied, hairy with that great herd bull presence. His dam is a powerful and beautiful Symbol x Esperenza female that has caught the eye of many people touring our pastures. This is her 3rd bull for the bull sale. She looks like the type of cow that should successfully keep on producing top end bulls for the bull sale. She’s moderate made but big, tanky and powerful.

100K Test Pending. A Three Thieves son with a ton of style and presence. He is a proud, attractive made bull with a good haircut. His dam is an attractive Triumph female who goes back to the Schatzi cow family. Her dam raised one of our high sellers last year to McTavish Charolais. Schatzi 105D raised both of her calves last year and calved to the first cycle this year, some real maternal strength!

Here’s a bull we believe would work on a variety of cows. He’s moderate but punchy, great muscle expression over his top and through his hind quarter with a lot of rib shape and a great hair coat. Three Thieves really has left a consistent calf crop in the bull pen! Kohl goes back to HBSF 95T one of the original Natassia’s. Her production record is full of big bodied, top end bull producing momma’s and powerful herd sires.

100K. HETERO POLLED, PARENT VERIFIED. Kracken has been a standout since birth. All summer long we looked at him and said it’s really a shame we aren’t showing cattle this fall. He was early maturing and has that herd bull presence that has grabbed our attention since birth. His dam has a production record you wish all your cows could have, weaned in and registered 10 calves in a row and calved to the 1st cycle at 13 years of age. That is a production record to be proud of and something we really strive to find when bull shopping. As an added bonus her structure, movement, udder and teat quality are second to none, as can be seen by her picture taken at 13 years of age. Kracken is a powerfully constructed Three Thieves son with extra expression in his muscle shape and dimension.

Three Thieves sure stamps his sons similarly. Great muscle shape, smooth made, moderate birthweights and great hair coat. A sire group we have spent a lot of time analyzing to pick out our favourites as they are so similar. Kaizen goes back to a big bodied, performance Escobar female.

This is a pretty cool made Three Thieves bull that I like a little bit more each time I see him. He has character and presence about him, is good haired, strong topped, smooth made with good rib shape. the tank. 96A offspring have been very well received by our commercial bull buyers and her daughters are producing well in our herd. The 96A bulls are all very similar - the power, depth of quarter, extra performance and growth is hard to beat. Combine that with a great hair coat and a good temperament and it makes for cattle that are easy to raise.

Feature power packed performance individual. This bull hits you from every angle; explosive in his muscle pattern and yet a presence in him that screams herd bull. Kalazamoo has that extra dimension from his fore rib right out through his hip. He displays a massive loin and extra width of top that carries right down to a stout base. His dam was a good looking Original cow with an exceptional udder and youthful look. She’s what you wish all 13 year-old cows could look like. She had a beautiful Mescalito heifer that sold in our sale last year. Kalamazoo has a disposition much like his sire’s- he’s an easy going bull. Triumph seems to stamp all of his offspring with a bit more of a rounded muscle shape and good disposition.

100K TEST PENDING. Kleinfelder is a bull that once you sort him out of the group and analyze him you can really appreciate him for all that he is. A very complete bull that is soft made, is solid on all 4 feet with a nice big foot. He has a gentle disposition and an understated personality. He is a bull that we think could be a good fit for a lot of different types of cattle. Would be great in the 2nd calver pen, would work on cows and should sire a nice set of market cattle, bulls and replacement females. His dam 15Y has proven herself in raising top-notch bulls and females. She has multiple purebred bulls and females out working in fellow purebred breeders’ herds as well as our own. She successfully flushes and produces top end progeny every time we ask her. She is an attractive, structurally sound, big volume cow that is quite moderate in her makeup. At 12 years of age, she still looks and produces like she is in her prime.

A really good Mescalito son out of a gorgeous Triumph 50B daughter, a front pasture type of female for sure. The Triumph / Mescalito cross worked well to create a consistent set of bulls that have style, thickness, muscle shape and grow. Kryptonite is the type of bull that is easy to appreciate and would work well in many herds.

Schatzi 43K is one cool and unique heifer. This is one powerhouse of a heifer: bold in her design and an abundance in depth of body. She ties her neck high into her shoulder with a “look at me” presence about her. Her dam already has a track record of producing impressive individuals. Her maternal sister last year sold to Johnson Charolais, and she is looking to be on her way to be one of the top in the 2 year old pen.

Her is one girl that should have walked her way to the replacement pen and stayed there. Really have to appreciate that natural swoop in her belly and the spring of rib. So bold in her design but elegant in her movement. A pen feature! A female that would make a great show female or front pasture type of cow.
You want to talk about a cow in the making that will lay down some bull power. Suellen is big topped, big middle and so soft made. Her dam is a beautiful Escobar female that has a herdsire working at Steppler Farms

A very unique Esperenza female that will surely have a check mark beside her come sale day. She has an elegance about her that is really quite special. You must appreciate the femininity and character of her skull and it how comes out of such an attractive front third. She has a smoothness in her joints and flexibility on the move that is hard to beat. When you approach this heifer from 6 o’clock that’s when she really hits you with her overall width and rib capacity. 183K is pen favourite and a definite feature. Hang a halter on her or make her a front pasture piece.

As the saying goes only the good ones come to town couldn’t be more true about Schatzi 175K. This female is one that really should be retained in the herd but she made her way to the catalog. This heifer is so complete in her design it’s hard to find a hole. Big topped, soft sided, big middled, width of base, attractive through her front, smooth on the move, the list goes on. A real feature of the Three Thieves daughters. The over all length and look of Esperenza 154K is second to none. She is so smooth in her lines and skeleton with the added depth of side. So good to see his progeny on the show road this fall!
Moderate in design but big in volume and dimension. Big middled, heavy haired and tidy up through her front. Her dam is a beautiful Casanova female.
Like so many of the Three Thieves, Kendal has the look, the style and the presence. She has added stretch through her front and length of spine.
Really have to admire the elegance and attractiveness of this heifer up through her front third. She’s super elongated through her neck flowing up into an attractive skull. The rib shape and added hair make her a female with multiple possibilities when it come to future mating’s.

Power, Presence and Pride. When it comes to the cattle business there are highs and there are lows. There are times you question one’s decision and there are times when it all comes together; Kingston and Kingpin are a result of when it all comes together! Two individuals we feel very honoured to have raised. Bulls that are special in their own right but carry some great similarities. The body mass, the muscle density, the phenotype, the hair and the foot structure. They have a presence about them that screams HERD BULL with great masculinity and character in their skull. These powerful herdsire prospects have great yearling and weaning weights. In size they are comparable to our performance Charolais bulls.
Their dams are both Grand Fortunes that go back to the Lashes cow family. They are moderate, good looking, good tempered and beautifully uddered black females. This cow family is known for their longevity, exceptional structure and producing top end progeny. Their dam is the one and only EGC Muchmore 72P aka “Chubby” known for her easy doing-ness and ability to raise a top end calf year after year, almost always a female. She is the matriarch of the Lashes cow family that backs many of the bulls on offer this year. Homo polled. Playmaker is a dark red Simmental bull who has a nice combination of calving ease and performance, backed by a solid set of EPD’s. He is in the top 1% for weaning and yearling weights. Playmaker calves are born dark red, easily and have great get up and go when born. We really like our Playmaker females in production.

Homo polled. Homo black. We bought a semen package on Favor from Canadian Sires and we are sure glad we did! We are very impressed with our first crop of Favor calves. Favor himself is an attractive, sound, long made bull with a level hip and tailhead and still plenty of power. His EPD’s put him near the top of most categories. He is a son of the popular Witness sire out of Sugar C4.

Homo polled. After a few years of calving heifers to Epic he has proven himself to be a great fit in our heifer pen. The calves have consistently been born the right size and make. The Epic calves grow well and push the scales down hard at weaning time, having the offspring off of heifers easily competing with the cow offspring. Our Epic cattle are deep bodied, soft made, hairy, have a dark red coat, and the dispositions on them are really good. Epic has total outcross genetics, impressive phenotype, and a great set of EPD’s. His CE, BW, WT and YT are all in the top 10%. The Epic females we have in production are good cows.
How exciting is this! Getting to sit down and write the opening message for my first ever bull sale. It’s been a day five years in the making to get here with a steep learning curve, but looking at these bulls today I can’t help but feel good about the results.
The Paxhill Farms Black Angus herd has it’s roots in a group of 20 bred cows and heifers that were purchased from HBH Angus that calved in the spring of 2018. Since then an AI program has been added to bring new genetics in and another group of 13 bred cows and heifers were acquired from Ray and Barb Airey’s dispersal sale in 2019 which have greatly enhanced the quality of the herd.
After trying several different AI sires over the years, Bub’s Southern Charm AA31 and SAV Rainfall 6846 have become our two go-to bulls to create great looking, gentle, highly productive females. Southern Charm brings great hair coats, larger frames, solid feet and udders with a high level of performance for use on our cow herd while keeping the birthweights and calving ease moderate. I can’t say with enough emphasis how much we love the Southern Charm females. Rainfall brings some of the best calving ease genetics available in a solid and compact frame producing females with picture perfect udders and gentle dispositions in a smooth attractive package, making him our go-to AI sire for the heifer pen.
The purebred Angus herd at Paxhill Farms continues to grow with the acquisition of a group of bred cows and heifers from the Red Rose Angus Dispersal sale this fall, along with some exciting new AI and walking herd sires. There are some fantastic bull calf prospects being born this spring off of Southern Charm, Rainfall, Bar-H Mindbender 141D, RRAR TopShelf 3H, Ellingson Turn Key 0170, Ellingson Badlands 0285 and our homegrown Rainfall, Southern Charm, and HF Stature 87D son’s that should make for a expanded and enhanced offering next year!
Shop with confidence knowing the bulls here today are hand picked from the top cow families in our herd and will greatly contribute to your bottom line as we move into the high end of the beef market cycle!
Here is a bull with calving ease written all over him, smaller framed, smooth made, structurally correct with a great disposition. Although he has smaller framed genetics in his background, he would have turned out a bit larger except for the tragic loss of his mother on pasture that resulted in him being weaned a bit too early in July. Don’t overlook this bull for your heifer pen.

Here is the standout in this year’s pen in my opinion, his mom is sired by LEB439A Excitement, and every one of the Excitement daughters is a standout with added frame, structural correctness, and perfect udders. His sire, Bub’s Southern Charm, has been the go-to bull here to produce picture perfect females. As you can see the combination has resulted in a powerful bull with a strong top, big barrel, and square hindquarters built on a foundation of great feet. Combine that with a pedigree that should consistently produce attractive, productive females and….well…. he’s just one of those bulls that you can’t afford not to have.
Have you read the notes on PAX 35K yet? Well here is another bull off of an Excitement dam, and the similarities between these two cows and their bull calves are hard to miss. An attractive, big barreled fellow who walks along on great feet. Sired by the highly sought after SAV Rainfall, this is another elite female maker that will yield those great Angus style udders with a gentle disposition. We love his dam so much that we have retained a Southern Charm son of hers, Paxhill Heavy D 15H, as one of our primary herd bulls.
Here is a larger framed Southern Charm son off of a Stature daughter, with that combination he can’t help but have a quiet, easy to work with disposition and produce cows with strong maternal traits.
Old man winter caught me off guard with this one and unfortunately this bull paid the price in ears. Fortunately cows don’t seem to mind the look so this thick, square, deep bodied beef maker Rainfall son can pass those genetics onto future generations. His dam is an incredibly deep bodied, easy to work with cow with a beautiful udder.
Here is a real smooth made bull off of one of my foundation females that has had an enormous impact on my purebred cowherd with several of her daughters and granddaughters fitting nicely in the upper ranks. They all have great hair coats, tidy udders, and great feet and this Paxhill Fiddy Cent 14F son is sure to improve on these traits and pass them on to his daughters in turn. With Fiddy Cent as this guy’s sire, have confidence using him in your heifer pen.
