Welcome to Spruce View Charolais What a whirlwind year we have just experienced! 2020 was a year to remember and absolutely one we want to forget. I honestly feel that there is no better place to be than in the agriculture industry. Of course, we had to make some lifestyle changes and adaptations but in the livestock industry we still have the freedom to go maskless in our day-to-day operations.

On a positive note, there was an abundance of moisture and plenty of feed. The Charolais cross calves have once again increased in demand and showed greater premiums over other breeds in the sale rings and are showing feedlot operators larger and quicker profits with the less days on feed.

It is our privilege to welcome you to our annual bull sale. We are honored to have sold bulls to many of you and some for generations. Our families take pride in and enjoy raising cattle that work for us and are confident that will work for your operation. We look forward to continue building relationships with our customers and looking forward to creating new relationships.

We are very pleased with this years’ sale offering of 33 polled 2-year-olds, many with the red factor gene as well as calving ease bulls and . We cannot forget the 24 French influenced yearlings from the Lussons’ which have been quite popular over the 50+ years .

At Spruce View Charolais our calving begins in early spring making our bull program is a strictly two-year-old operation. We do not sell last years pass outs or left overs. You are getting pick of our crop. When we are selecting our bull sale offering, we try to select the most uniform group to bring to you. By coming to preview the bulls at the farm we can show you the dams and sires of the sale offering in their natural setting. You will also notice that our cattle must work for us and not the opposite. Our herd get plenty of exercise and are not confined in tight pens and nothing gets pampering or special treatment.

As many of you ranchers know, we calve later than most other breeders thus only selling the extra aged long yearling bull. We primarily calve in April /May, weaning in November and gently grow these bulls out throughout the winter. These bulls then go on grass in May and don’t come back in until November when they go on a ration consisting of Brown oats, hay and a barley/ corn silage. We find that the bulls grow and gain well on this ration. If you’re looking for a fat bull you probably won’t find him here. What you will get is a gently grown bull that will jump off the

trailer and get right to business and not go through a melt down stage. We strive to grow out and raise these bulls to go out to work and last you a long time.

We once again are offering our proven bloodlines as well as introducing a couple new ones.

We are really thrilled to be offering some sons of our new homozygous polled sire, JSR Estrada 52E. Back in the spring of 2019 we were very fortunate to team up with Char Maine Ranching on this great curve bending Pleasant Dawn Chisum son out of Ontario. He possesses has all the traits that we’ve been looking for: calving ease, top weaning/yearling weights as well as high maternal traits. If you’re into EPD’s like I am, the Estrada’s are hard to beat!

Once again we have a real strong offering of Red factor bulls from the tans right up to the cherries. We have been breeding red factor Charolais since the mid 1980’s and have continued concentrating and improving on the outcross genetics We will have the bulls penned in the auction barn on the afternoon of the 17th right up until sale time for your inspection. We would encourage you to come to the sale, view the offering and be part of the action but if you are unable to attend the sale due to other reasons, we’d encourage you to come to the farms to preview the offering. If you wish, feel free to call and we can assist you with your selection that fits your program. Once again we must comply by the Covid 19 health restrictions at the sale barn, so if you are not comfortable in staying for the sale we can assist you to bid via telephone or bid online through DLMS.ca from the comfort of your home.

This year we are offering a very consistent group of yearlings from a French cow herd 6 decades in the making. The cross with the purebred polled bulls has produced a polled crop of bulls with adequate frame and lots of natural muscle with large testicles and solid feet and legs. Once again the yearlings were fed a light bull ration and full feed oats silage with a touch of “legumes” mixed in.

We are super excited to be offering you a selection of our first progeny off JSR ESTRADA. We are so pumped to have teamed up on Estrada purchase with the Quintons at Char Maine Ranching. When we purchased Estrada, both of us were looking for a super sound homozygous polled bull with performance. He has checked every box and exceeded our expectations. His progeny are all polled and bring home our top weaning weights and his females are milking great. Estrada has a bomb proof temperament with great feet and legs. Estrada is in the top 1% for weaning and yearling weights. For those cattlemen who study epd’s, have a look at these. You’ll be pretty hard pressed to find a better set of performance numbers. The Estrada’s were Char Maine’s highest averaging group of bulls in their annual sale this past December. Many of this years Estrada’s will easily work in purebred herds. Have a look for yourself.

We once again are offering red factor progeny off Tri N Sheriff. His progeny have been well received Canada wide as well as into the USA. Sheriff has moderated our frame score, added a great hair coat and has assured us the red factor pigment without broken patterns.

Sheriff really has impressed us with his calving ease and as well as his daughters have nice even tidy udders with an abundance of milk.

TERMS - The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at sale location unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made previous to the sale with sale manager. The right of property & delivery shall not pass until after settlement is made.

SHIPPING - Assistance will be given in making shipment after the sale but no risk is assumed by Sales Management or Seller.

Expenses incurred are the responsibility of the purchaser.

Purchasers are requested to furnish shipping instructions when making settlement.

BID - Every animal consigned to the sale must be sold by auction. No private sales will be allowed except as otherwise provided for in the terms and conditions. No by-bidding will be permitted. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder.

GUARANTEE - All animals will carry standard breeding guarantee as specified by the Canadian Charolais Association. At no time shall the seller’s liability exceed the purchased price of the animal.

EXCEPTION TO GUARANTEE - In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, the guarantee shall be null and void.

DISPUTES - In cases of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final.

PURCHASER’S RISK - Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable time.

ANNOUNCEMENTS from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay attention to any such announcements.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY - The proper Registration paper, will be duly transferred and furnished to the buyer for each animal after settlement has been made upon the Buyer Request.

ACCIDENTS - Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the Sales Management, auctioneer or sellers assume any responsibility in this matter and disclaims any liability legal or otherwise in the event of accident or loss of property.

RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS - The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and the seller and be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction and the rights and obligations of the two parties connected thereto are not covered by the terms and conditions of this sale.
