On behalf of the entire Alexander family, a huge welcome and thanks to all the buyers, bidders, friends and new acquaintances for all the help over the last 26 years. It is amazing how time flies when you are having fun. Every cattle person I know has cattle because they chose to. It’s in their blood, passion, hobby, lively hood and simply who they are. Hats off to all the cattle people as they are living and working a dream. So many people work their entire lives to finally retire and do what they really wanted to do. We are a lucky crew (cattle people) to be making our living doing what we always dreamt of. There certainly are ups and downs. But at the end of the day there is no better life then rural agriculture. The market is certainly strong. The weather has been challenging to say the least. We (ag people) are a tough crew, we’ve seen good and bad and we have learned how to cope with the day to day challenges. A salute to everybody in agriculture. Our goal at Bone Creek has never changed. We strive to produce cattle that thrive and adapt under our harsh environment. Functional females are the focal point of our operation. We select for females that produce optimum offspring with little or no supervision. We want as much performance as possible but never sacrificing live calves, born unassisted that get up and suck. Mothering ability and calf vigor (at birth) are traits that are the most important to any cow/calf producer. The cattle business doesn’t have to be hard but sometimes we as producers push the envelope to the point of making it hard. Performance is small conciliation if the calves don’t get up and suck. The production of mother cows that do it on there own, raise an above average calf is always the topic around our kitchen table. It’s amazing over the years when you look back how a small select group of elite females have contributed such a huge impact to our operation. When we select bulls for our operation we follow the females behind the bulls. We only have the opportunity as producers to follow the males for 6 to 8 months but the females are here for decades. HOW WE SELECT REPLACEMENTS? (male and female) The bulls undergo a constant culling program; depending on the quality of the cow, and then the quality of each individual calf. At birth, only bull calves born of worthy enough cows are kept; the rest are steered. Then, when branding time comes, the top cut of bull calves remain bulls and the rest are ringed. In the fall, after weaning and over the course of the winter, the bull calves will then be sorted two more times and only worthy enough calves are kept as bulls. They must have correct structure, good feet and above average performance. The remaining bulls (after four culling periods) are then turned out to their summer pasture as yearlings, where they sometimes have their own culling program. The bulls we offer in the sale as yearlings undergo a strict culling program to make sure we offer bulls that come from sound cows, correct structure, feet, muscle development, performance and eye appeal. Occasionally, we use a few bulls on our own hfrs. This year we used Lots 27,54,55 and 60 on our own home raised P.B. hfrs. In the fall, all yearling bulls are gathered and brought home to be started on their winter ration. Remember one thing, these bulls are not selected on the basis of market ability but rather their ability to make a contribution to our operation. We raise

bulls for our ranch operation and market within that group. Joni sorts the female replacements. Our ranch focus is on producing females that are low maintenance and last. Our main concern is udders. We select replacement hfrs that are mothered by sound functional cows within our herd; cows that calve with no assistance, good tempered, that produce quality saleable calves every year. For the past several years, we have been running almost all multiple sire breeding fields. This means, we sort our cows based on breed, color, quality and age. We rely on DNA test to determine the sire and this usually happens after calves are weaned. When we select our replacement hfr and bull calves the sires are unknown. Therefore we are basing our decisions on performance, overall quality and their mothers. This is how you find out what sires rise above the rest on a totally unbiased selection process. No calf gets a free ride because of its parentage. They must perform and develop on their own merits to be kept as replacement males or females. It’s amazing when you DNA how few calves some bulls sire as compared to other bulls in the group. We raise our cattle just as you do, commercial range operated ranch. If cattle work in our harsh environment, they will work anywhere. A NEW CONCEPT – PRIVATE TREATY AUCTION SALE We thought about selling private treaty, but who gets first pick. After 26 years we have made many lifelong friendships and I am not about to sacrifice a friendship over a bull! Therefore all the bulls will be given a base price which will be posted on livestockplus.ca about 10 days before the sale. The bidding will start at the base price; if no one bids the bull is for sale after the sale at the base price. Last year about 40% of the bulls sold at the base price. Six bulls passed through and four bulls sold at the base price immediately after the sale. The base price will reflect a fair value that we will either use these bulls in our operation or offer for sale. We are again honoured and please to be working with Donnie Peacock as the auctioneer. Donnie brings decades of cattle experience and is available to give an unbiased honest assessment of the offering. This is our 4th year with Bridget Andrews and Chris Moulding at Livestock Plus.ca. Bridget, with a P.B. Herford background brings decades of experience to the bull business. Chris is certainly a professional when it comes to the electronics side of the operation. Herd Health
Bone Creek Angus has a long history of well-established herd health protocols to ensure their animals have a healthy a start. We are proud to assist such progressive members of the cattle industry with their preventive medical and animal care protocols. These bulls come from a cow herd with a strong focus on prevention vaccination strategies against the common pathogens we see in Canadian cattle. This herd has a solid program in place for prevention of diseases such as IBR and BVD. As both a veterinarian and producer, I consider this the cornerstone of any herd health program. The bulls themselves have been vaccinated with combination viral and bacterial vaccines (Bovishield Gold One shot/Ultrabac 7 somnugen) at branding and weaning as calves. As yearlings they are given foot rot vaccines, Bovishield 5 and Tasvax. Then as long yearlings prior to sale, they are boosted with Bovishield FP5 for added insurance against IBR, BVD, PI3, BRSV and are also given a foot rot vaccine booster.
Sight Unseen
We would be more than honoured and willing to help with your selection process to make sure the right bull is supplied to meet your target goals. We will discuss the offering with you and represent your interest in a confidential and private matter. Upon delivery if the bulls meet with your satisfaction, then you pay for the bull. If for whatever reason the bull does not suit he will be loaded on the trailer and no questions asked. Understand the onus is upon us to make sure the order is filled properly and if not we will use the bull in our operation. We are certainly very familiar with the offering and can add some helpful input into your selection.
4-H Support
We certainly are interested and willing to support 4-H beef projects. If you buy a bull at our sale and have children in beef 4-H then let us know, send a picture if possible and we will donate $500.00/child to a max of two children per family as our way of expressing our gratitude for your support and in turn support your 4H children.

TGA 6293D is a thick, stout bull that is very athletic. His dam, 1131 is very eye appealing; she is structurally correct with a very nice udder. The sire, 124A, sired one of the top red bulls offered last year for $8,500. We are happy with the way 124A has turned out after purchasing from DWAJO Angus of Barrhead, AB. The sire, 124A, has excellent feet and really gets around the field and does his job. We like him! There are four opportunities this year to get a son off of this guy.

TGA 6013D is out of a first calf heifer- impressive! This is a very masculine, thick, stout, easy moving bull. His dam, 4381 is a small framed, big barrelled young cow with a good udder. Sire, 348A, was purchased from Russ and Cindy Sibbald (Lazy RC Red Angus) of Beechy for $13,000. We are happy with the calves being produced off this sire. They have some type; physical structure, muscle pattern, and thickness are all good qualities in these calves- both male and female. The sire, 348A is a definite worker; he breeds a lot of heifers in our multiple sire field every year; a very athletic bull that works and doesn’t outgrow his “heifer bull” status.

TGA 6153D is another bull that sticks out in the pen in my eyes. He is very long, dark, good hair, smooth throughout, and quiet. I like the way this bull has turned out. He is out of a first calf heifer; I am excited to see what the dam 4494 produces for us in the future!

TGA 6137D is out of one of the old favourite cows that are walking on the ranch. She is currently 13 years old and looks like she’s six years old. Dam 5212, has definitely pulled her weight around here, she has given us several sale bulls in the past. She still has a perfect udder and feet and very easy fleshing. This son, 6137, comes from a proven cow, and a proven bull. Sire, 0194, is still here at 8 years old. He is huge, big boned and extremely muscular. TGA 6558D is a cool cat. He is very stylish just like Lot 2. The calves off of 1090Y tend to be very stylish in their muscle pattern and overall stance. I like this guy, also because of his mother. The dam, 2140, is out of a bull that has produced very well for us in the past (9188). The daughters of 6558’s grandsire, 9188, are always sound, and very feminine. Grand dam, 5328, was also a superstar as far as her calves went. I think we have kept every daughter she has had (6). Another daughter of 5328 is mother to Lot 65. Check him out and you will see the consistency in quality that this cow family produces!

TGA 6537D is out of another special cow that we have raised over the years. Dam, 5253 has produced many offspring both bulls and heifers that meet the quality of her. She is a small to moderately framed cow that is extremely sound and eye appealing. She is the maternal grand dam to Lot 5. These two bulls even look similar. That is obviously coming from the cow side of things. TGA 6537D comes from a long line of proven cows; proven to be sound, last a long time, and produce quality offspring every time.

I think TGA 6212D has very good potential to produce rippin’ good calves. The dam, 2441 had one of the nicest half blood bred heifers last year; I’m talking jaw dropping females that stand out over the rest. That heifer probably had one of the best bull calves out of the heifer fields when we weaned last fall. This bull was born June 17th. Take note. He is out of a very proven cow. She is a beauty. She is a larger framed cow, very fleshy, and has an excellent udder. She has some darker features around the eyes like this guy and she is one of those cows that seem much younger then she actually is. Two words; thick and stout! Wow, 6311 is a tank! He is herd bull material and out of something new for us. He is a son of RAFTER S HESSTON 92A- a bull we purchased from Stauffer ranches for $16,000. This little cow, 3389, did one heck of a job on this guy. He adds pounds without adding birth weight! We try to keep our birth weights below 100 lbs here because we find less problems when most of the calves out of the cows are between 80-95 lbs. Most of our cows don’t get checked more then once a day so birth weight is important to us! If a cow can turn a lower birth calf into a stud like this, how much better does it get?

TGA 6066D was the heaviest bull in the pen this year when we weighed in January. Very impressive for a 79 lb calf off a three year old cow! No papers on this guy simply because his dam was never registered- I guess she got missed? Papers don’t make a bull good; the bull himself makes the bull good. This bull has every thing else going for him! Good feet, thickness, length, loads of muscle, smooth, and the dam comes from a long line of sound, long lasting cows! We still have 6066’s great grand dam, 3107, who is 15 years old and bred to calve with the rest this spring.

TGA 6484D is out of another special cow in my mind. Some cows you really notice when you’re cruising through the pasture and you just admire them for their looks. 7151 is one of those cows. She is larger framed but still very solid bodied. Sired by a final answer son, 6484 is nicely balanced between having enough frame and still maintaining thickness.

TGA 6422D is a maternal half brother to our herd bull 0022X (sired lot 29,32,38,52,54). Obviously the cow means something to us. She added frame to 0022X who is a Final Answer son. 6422D would work well on cows that need a little frame and stretch to their calves. TGA 6026D is one of 10- RAINALTA SPECIALIST 70B sons on offer this year. As a group, we think these bulls are outstanding! We used 70B (P.B. Red Simmental) on some young purebred Red Angus cows along with some Angus sires. After the DNA tests, we ended up with 10 of the bull calves being off him. 70B adds performance and moderates the frame on his calves. If you need to bring down the frame on your cows and add some thickness and pounds, one of these sons would work perfectly for the job! 70B adds tremendous hip, loin, and square top to his calves. 70B is an exceptionally easy calving, low birth weight sire, but his calves perform! This spring we plan on sorting some large framed cows specifically for this sire (70B). The dam, 3400, comes from the same cow family as LOT 13’s dam. Very sound, good cow family background behind TGA 6026D!

TGA 528D is a very complete bull with lots of muscle, frame, and thickness. He is a big boned bull and has straight hair. His look leans more toward an Angus look but yet is genetically just over half Simmental. This May born calf easily competes with the top end of the hybrid bulls as far as weight, and overall power. His sire, 84Z, is a WFL IDENTITY 23X son which has recently been a popular herd sire in the Simmental industry. TGA 525D is a larger framed, long bodied bull that still has lots of eye appeal and style in his muscle pattern. He comes from another very consistent cow family with longevity built in. Dam, 290Y, is a larger framed cow with a good udder and good feet. Grand dam, 338N, was one of those cows that we kept every heifer calf off of. She was a herd builder! Replacement heifers sired by 525D will definitely be worthy!
