Welcome to the Sale Welcome to our second bull sale. We are excited to partner this year with Plains Limousin (Mark Porter and Karen McKaeff ) from Wainwright. We have known Mark for a number of years and believe that their yearling bulls will be an asset to the sale. Come early to view the bulls â&#x20AC;&#x201C; complimentary coffee and doughnuts will be available. Our Program

Bull Development

Our program is a cow/calf operation in the prairie hills just west and north of Altario. The cow herd, of which 30% are purebred, spend all of the year on the grassland and the fields where they are swath grazed a good part of the winter. They see a corral only for processing and weaning. The bred heifers and purebred cows are sorted from the main commercial group only after swath grazing is complete. They calve on 80 acres of prairie grass beginning mid-April. All calves are wintered, with the purebreds being grown on the same ration as the commercial cattle and our replacement females.

Bull development is done to provide bulls with optimum breeding potential and longevity. They are born on grass, wintered on a balanced growing ration, summered on grass and prepared for sale on a balanced growing ration. Because calves have been born on pasture, we have no birth weights on bulls but we assure you that there isnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t a cow in our purebred group or a bull in our bull sale that is the result of an assisted calving.

Although weaning data is not available for the 2008 bulls, the 2009 bull calves from all the same sires resulted in an average 205 day adjusted weaning weight of 680 lbs. All 2008 bulls will be at the sale with the exception of one embryo calf that we are keeping for our own use. Bulls will be semen tested and given their first shot of foot rot vaccine prior to the sale. No feet will be trimmed prior to sale. The bulls being presented are good bodied, moderate framed bulls with lots of smoothness, hair and thickness.

Herd Health Herd health is handled as recommended by Border Vet Clinic of Provost who we have dealt with exclusively for product and services for the past 18 years. All vaccinations are given as recommended including modified live BVD prior to breeding. All bulls will be semen tested by them prior to the sale.

Delivery / Wintering

Sale Staff

Delivery and Wintering is available should the buyer desire. Bulls can be taken back to the ranch, fed until May 1 and delivered for the first 150 miles - all at no charge to the purchaser. If you don’t want delivery until a later date arrangements can be made. We require bulls to be insured if they are returning to Murphy Ranch.

SI RES Revolution is siring good honest Limousin type cattle that are exhibiting tremendous length and muscle expression coupled with phenomenal dispositions. We expect the Revolution females to have well suspended udders with ideal teat size and an abundance of milk. Revolution has proven himself as a calving ease sire, now having two calf crops on the ground, with limited assistance. His bulls have matured the way we expected. The reason we are featuring 44U on his own page, is because he earned it by being a true beef animal that maintains the structure, muscle, and volume that is the essential basis for profit motivated feeding and high yielding carcasses. Not only is his structure and performance highlighting an extreme individual but his maternal side is just as sweet. His mother has never missed first cycle and is one of the heaviest milking cows in our herd, this year again weaning another powerful bull that indexed third for weaning weight. Structure, performance, consistency and fertility, it just doesn’t get any better than this. We hope to have DNA results on a homo polled test prior to sale. We feel this young Klint bull has a lot of potential. He is from an embryo flush of our MURPHY’S 3M cow, a cow who has been extremely productive for us. We are using a full brother from this flush in our own program. If you are looking for a herd bull, this fellow is worth considering.

Karen and I are extremely pleased to have the opportunity to take part in this sale. I feel the Murphys have a top notch operation and take great pride in producing highly functional herd bulls. We have a small operation 13 km north of Wainwright where we run approximately 30 purebred cows and 10 commercial cows that are used as embryo recipients. The majority of our cows are result of select AI calves or top embryos we raised. Our calves are pasture raised on mother`s milk and grass until mid-July when they are introduced to creep feeding on whole oats. In early September the calves are weaned and sorted and only select bulls are kept and placed on a Feed Rite ration of Farm and Fair consisting of no barley products, as I feel this promotes longevity in the bulls. We pride ourselves with the docility of our animals feeling that if they are not suitable for our farm then they aren’t for yours either. Delivery conditions are the same as the Murphy’s with the option of the bulls taken back home until required with free delivery within 150 miles of Wainwright. Bulls returning to the farm shall be insured by the new owner. All bulls have been vaccinated and received Ivomec prior to this sale.

Wizard is from one of our AI herd sires who has delivered light birth weight calves that have done nothing but excel from birth, take note of the above average EPD’s. The dam of this calf was a member of our grand champion pen of three heifers in 2004, her mother at the age of 5 was reserve senior champion that same year with her at side, largely due to the outstanding udders and fabulous milk production she had and which she has passed on to her calves.

Here is a dark cherry red bull with lots of muscle and depth, from the time we brought him home from the show string he’s done nothing but improve. Wanderer is out of HardCore a former Denver Grand Champion. Once again take note of the above average EPD’s and the good testicular development on this bull.

Warrior is out of the 2006 Novartis runner up Show Bull of the Year; his Dam was shown as a calf, where she and her mother were named the 2002 International Limousin Conference Grand Champions. Warrior was a member of our show string last year and just like his outstanding EPD’s, he been a stand out bull right from birth.

Wyatt (Tiny as we call him) is sired by Frontier, one the best calving ease specialists in the Limo breed. As you can see by Wyatt’s own birth weight of 58 lbs he worked well coming from a cow that weighs in at over 1900lbs. At first I thought we may have a twin coming, but all our cows ultrasounded and the technician said there were no twins coming. Like his past brothers Tiny started growing like wildfire and if you want to talk about quiet here’s one my kids lead around. My neighbours even came to see this little guy as they couldn’t believe he lived. Ask me to see the pictures if you’d like.
