KAMADHENU- THE WISH GRANTING COW PART 2 In Hindu mythology, Kamadhenu or Kamaduh has been regarded as the sacred cow which fulfills one’s every desire and is also the source of all prosperity. Epitomized as a form of Devi, Kamadhenu is often related to the fertile Mother Earth as well. Purity and non-erotic fertility are her key features. Her complexion resembles that of white clouds. Each and every body part of the cow holds a religious significance. The four legs are regarded as the four Vedas, her teats symbolize the four Purusharthas, its horns signify Gods, its face reflects the sun and the moon, and her shoulders signify Agni, the God of fire while her legs represent the Himalayas. Even the Mother Earth is regarded as cow in Vedic tradition because it too is an endless giver of resources and nourishment. Hence the cow should be loved, respected and protected as she is like a mother to the entire mankind. Humans and many other forms of life sustain on her milk. In Asian countries, millions of rural families use cow dung as fuel and bricks. The urine of cow acts as medicine for the sick. Even after her death, her skin is used to provide warmth and protection in the form of clothing.
Kamadhenu cow is even very well known through her five forms viz, Sumana, Surabhi, Susheela, Sunanda and Nanda. Moreover, every part of the cow’s body represents and embodies a particular deity. Her back embodies Lord Brahma, the creator while her throat symbolizes Lord Vishnu. The divine cow Kamadhenu is believed to have every God residing in her body and is mostly depicted in this form in poster art. She represents and symbolizes Dharma itself as it is standing on the earth’s ground with her four feet since Satyayuga, the first age of truth to the world. During Tretayuga which was the second stage of less than perfection, Kanadhenu stood on earth with her three feet on the ground while during the Dwaparayuga, the stage of dwindling perfection, she had two of her feet stationed on the ground. But with the arrival of Kaliyuga which is the fourth and the current age of decadence, she is believed to have only one of her Convert html to pdf online with PDFmyURL
feet on earth. She appeared from the ocean of milk around a millennia ago when Gods and demons churned the ocean. She has been symbolized as having a human head, the body of a cow, the tail of a peacock and wings of a parrot in her anthropomorphic form. Be Sociable, Share! Tweet
