One of the largest museums in the U.S. that portrays the whole story of the American Civil War. OPEN DAILY 1 Lincoln Circle in Reservoir Park HARRISBURG, PA 717.260.1861

TH

Welcome to the National Civil War Museum The sweeping drive through Reservoir Park gives an unparalleled view of the majestic building atop the highest point in Harrisburg ~ The National Civil War Museum. As you approach the entrance to the Museum, you will be struck anew at the Moment of Mercy statue by sculptor Terry Jones, framed by the walk of valor. Take a moment to reflect here on the mercy given to the fallen soldiers by one brave man, Confederate Sergeant Richard Kirkland, during the Battle of Fredricksburg, forever memorialized in bronze. Once inside the Museum, let the grand rotunda’s splendor take you back to a time of sweeping staircases and grand dreams before you enter the Museum galleries and are forever changed by the history you will see. The National Civil War Museum will take you back in time to learn about the American Civil War, where over 620,000 Americans perished. The Museum seeks to tell the whole story of this most troubled chapter in American History while focusing on the issues, the people, and the lives that were affected and contains over 25,000 artifacts. A self-guided tour takes you through 17 galleries illustrating the war and all its consequences, beginning with A House Divided, 1850-1860: a timeline of incidents and issues prior to the Civil War and concludes with Lincoln: War & Remembrance: a retrospective of the war; the martyred President; the role of veterans after the war. In addition to our static displays and artifacts, our award-winning We the People video program, the continuing story of ten characters, lasts about one hour and concludes in the museum’s theater, as the Nation’s joy turns to sorrow in a 16-minute film discussing the end of the war and the assassination of President Lincoln. The vistas that are seen from the Museum grounds and our covered Observatory span four counties and the scenic Susquehanna River narrow. Also visible is the area of Harrisburg that contained Camp Curtin, the largest camp of rendezvous in the North during the war. The capital of Pennsylvania and a major rail hub for men and materials, Harrisburg played a vital role in the Civil War and was threatened by the invasion of the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia. Before you leave the Museum, stop by the gift shop for that special gift and browse our amazing stock of books, some autographed that you won’t find anywhere else.

GETTYSBURG

You probably visited Gettysburg when you were young. You may have visited with a school group or vacationed here with your family. You remember Gettysburg. You remember the monuments, the cannons and your Licensed Battleeld Guide. You remember your walk through the Gettysburg National Cemetery and “Four score and seven years ago.” You will never forget your Gettysburg visit. Now is the perfect time to return.

BEGIN YOUR VISIT at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center It may have been a while since you visited Gettysburg. If you are a frequent visitor, you know the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center is the official start to your visit. First, refresh your Civil War knowledge with the lm, A New Birth of Freedom, which sets the scene and provides details of the three-day battle and its impact on all of us who meet “on the great battleeld of that war.” Experience the sights and sounds of the awe-inspiring Gettysburg Cyclorama. A historic treasure, the massive 360-degree painting of Pickett’s Charge is one to be experienced again and again. Continue your journey to explore the artifacts and interactive exhibits in the Gettysburg Museum of the American Civil War.

EISENHOWER NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE Enhance your visit with a tour of Eisenhower National Historic Site. Providing a personal look at Dwight and Mamie Eisenhower’s life, a tour of the home (when available) features Mamie’s original furnishings and décor. The building was the 1863 home of John and Caroline Rupp who lived in the house with their six children. It was truly a family home. It still is.

Proceeds from tickets and other purchases in the Museum & Visitor Center benet Gettysburg National Military Park and Eisenhower National Historic Site.

Your adventure awaits...

Located along the Anclote River where it intersects the Gulf of Mexico, Tarpon Springs is a rich mixture of culture, customs, and families. Its waterfront is a working seaport and shopping district with the unmistakable feel of a Grecian fishing village. Its downtown is a showcase of proud historic buildings and homes from the gracious Victorian era. It’s an unlikely blend of histories, and one you’ll find only in Tarpon Springs, Pinellas County’s oldest city. 46

| LIVE. WORK. PLAY.

Past Indian history in this beautiful coastal community predates the arrival of the first settlers in the early 1800’s. Soon after, the advent of the railroad and the building of the Anclote Key Lighthouse brought many positive changes to the area. The town’s Victorian influences stem from the late 1800’s to about 1905, when the seaside village became a playground for wealthy Northerners. These seasonal residents built luxurious estates along Spring Bayou. Soon Tarpon Springs gained fame as one of the great health centers and winter resorts of the time.

Welcome Center 1 N. Pinellas Avenue Monday–Friday, 10 am–5 pm Visitors’ Center 100 Dodecanese Boulevard 7 days, 10:30 am–3:30 pm 727-937-6109 TarponSpringsChamber.org

Two Cultures, One City... Tarpon Springs Rich sponge beds, discovered in the 1880’s, spawned a flourishing new industry. In 1905, young sponge divers were recruited from the Dodecanese Islands of Greece. The sponge industry thrived, as did the Greek community, and the town’s focus changed. Some of the Greek immigrants who came to the area continue their traditional trade of sponge diving. Today Tarpon Springs is a showcase of both cultures, from its vintage Victorian era mansions and buildings to its lively Greek traditions and community.

Experience the flavor of Greece and the excitement of an authentic working waterfront on the Sponge Docks. Visit authentic Greek restaurants and bakeries, sponge diving and sightseeing tour boats, unique shops, antique shops and art galleries, and the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral, home of the largest Epiphany celebration in the Western Hemispheres – No Passport Required!
