The main objective of this project is to develop the English Language skills of school children. Interns will engage in a traineeship in Sri Lanka to teach English to Sri Lankan students which last 06 - 08 weeks. They will create a unique learning environment for the local students of ages 8-14 to develop their English speaking and comprehension skills. This not only improves the English language skills of school children, but also gives them an opportunity to interact with different cultures & to open up to the world. Last year AIESEC has implemented this project in more than 50 Schools around Colombo, Panadura, Moratuwa, Kelaniya, Piliyandala, Negombo and Kadawatha, Mathugama, Homagama& more than 80 interns have involved since the beginning. EVENT A Learning Network day has been planned with the objective of networking all the schools that are working with AIESEC. This event will provide a good platform for the students to show their talents with what they learned and a good opportunity for all the stakeholders to get together. The Impact Reached more than 20000 Students within 2 years More than 80 foreign undergraduates involved in English and IT teaching. More than 50 Schools around Colombo, Panadura, Moratuwa, Kelaniya, Piliyandala, Negombo and Kadawatha are approached and all of the schools recommend the project Recommended by the Secretary of the Ministry of Education

Since 2006, AIESEC has been creating a lot of impact, learning and network with the local schools. Not only had the foreign interns created an unforgettable experience among the students, but also they themselves experienced a unique culture of living in Sri Lanka.


Basic Job role of the Interns 1. Building confidence within the students to understand and speak basic English 2. Teach Basic English writing with proper spellings and grammar according to the curriculum provided (Unless the School administration specifies a curriculum). 3. Deliver interactive Learning sessions to make the students talk in front of an audience (i.e. the class room) 4. Share important cultural facts of their countries 5. Prepare the students for performances such as speeches, Role plays, etc, for the Learning Network day (Applicable especially for the November- January realizations). Build a good relationship with the school staff in order to continue with the partnership with the school in a very sustainable manner. TN details  Most of the TNs will be Local Government Schools  TN will be providing Food and accommodation (Home stays, or School hostels). In case of the TN does not provide accommodation, AIESEC will take care of accommodation  The schools aren’t very big with a large numbers of students, and the students may have very Basic English knowledge.

EPs we are looking for (most of the criterion are preferred by may not be required) 

EPs that have a very clear pronunciation of English

EPs who are major in English language & who has previous English teaching qualifications

Effective communicators with good listening skills and interactive teaching skills (Prior experience is a preferred qualification),

Culturally sensitive individuals who are ready to explore a different part of the world.

THEME Entrepreneurship | Sustainability | Global Environment OBJECTIVES Develop the "Entrepreneurship “among undergraduates Help to develop local businesses, NGOs Interns will be working for SMEs, NGOs on business development for certain period of time. These interns will work in the organization in fields such as of marketing, HR, and Finance to add value & will bring innovative ideas to the business while developing the skills of other employees. This will create a unique experience for the organization, for the foreign intern & also for AIESEC members & will develop their Entrepreneurship in a global environment through practical experience. Other special features of the project AIESEC members will organize events, workshops in the University & in other companies on Entrepreneurship, Social Entrepreneurship, sustainability, business skill development with the help of foreign interns to develop an Entrepreneurship mindset among the public. Duration 8 weeks Job Description on the internship The basic job role of the interns will be helping the local organizations to develop their businesses. Intern will be working in fields such as Marketing, HR, Finance while developing the business skills of employees. Hence, this will be a full time Internship Job Role. Interns are expected to provide inputs and support the events & workshops organized by the AIESEC members.

2nd partner is a new venture offering specialized volunteer travel experiences engaging interns in local conservation and community development initiatives, by guiding them to work on projects in most threatened and challenged yet most endearing ecosystems, communities and cultures around Sri Lanka AIESEC has joined hands with 2nd partner to offer this life changing experience through the Explore Sri Lanka project an adventure(s) of a life

Project 1 Coral Planting + Turtle + Mangrove + Teaching English/ orphanage + Livelihood – Arugambay    

Diving and replanting corals in the shallows teaming with marine life, mapping and exploring coral reefs around Sri Lanka Protecting turtles and their eggs, Patrolling the beach to stop poachers from stealing eggs and hatchlings, Tagging and monitoring turtles English Activity time with kids in the village school or orphanage Working with the village adults in sustainable business/ crafts/ building


Project 2 Home Gardening + Bird + Teaching English/orphanage + Livelihood – Kandy  Track through the jungles and mountainous region to Identify and monitor the bird species, food sources, habitat preferences, species density and biology.  Re-planting the trees to link fragmented forests  work with children in different age groups (7 years to 16 years,)in the village school or orphanage in kandy  Working with the village adults in sustainable business/ crafts/ livelihood building activity.

Project 3 Elephant + Building Houses + Coaching Sports – Anuradhapura  Work closely with the Sri Lankan wild elephants on a daily basis by Tracking, collaring and monitoring while camping in Sri Lanka’s national parks and elephant corridors to Research elephant behaviour and habitat loss.  Build and/or repair homes for the needy, and providing basic sanitary facilities  work with children in different age groups (7 years to 16 years,)in the village school or orphanages

OTHER INFORMATION Onsite project accommodation and food & travel all PROVIDED! 24/7 support by project team Airport pick up provided. On site first aid and emergency vehicle to hospital Weekends are free for leisure & travel

Tourism project Corporate Initiative What is the Project about? The Project is an effort to promote Sri Lanka tourism while creating opportunities for Young Individuals around the world to experience a new working environment and cultural experience. AIESEC organizes a line of events to share foreign cultures with Sri Lankans while sharing our culture with them.


How does it work? AIESEC signs contracts with local Hotels, Marketing Companies, Travel Agencies and any related organizations to employ one or more foreign University Undergraduates/ Recent Graduates in areas such as, Marketing, Finance, Accounting, Business Development, HR, Project Management, etc. AIESEC in Sri Lanka will facilitate the process of selecting the best talent in order to bring the best to the Sri Lankan tourism related companies.

These foreign interns will, 

Work as interns in Local Hotels, Companies, agencies in management and technical departments to bring in innovative ideas and increase workforce diversity as well as efficiency

Promote Sri Lanka tourism in their own countries and carry out research on potential tourists and perform target promotions

Prepare travel journals by traveling around the country and collecting interesting facts to promote among their networks

Take part in the AIESEC Global Village program that is scheduled to be held in February 2012 in a public place in Colombo in order to share cultures in a colorful way

Carry out surveys and publish reports on Sri Lanka tourism development in order to be utilized in the coming years by a similar project.

Prepare tourism related promotional material to be promoted in the AIESEC international conferences for the following year.
