The Sound of Music Musical Melbourne
Reuben Sandwich
This classic New York style toasted sandwich is loaded with slices of silverside, sauerkraut and creamy Russian mustard. Delicious.
Ingredients
Method
8 slices rye sourdough bread 12 – 24 slices Silverside 1 ½ cups sauerkraut Dijon mustard 250g swiss cheese 50g butter, for frying
Firstly make up the Russian dressing, place all ingredients in a bowl and stir until combined. Season lightly.
Russian Dressing: 1 cup good mayonnaise 1 tsp Tabasco sauce 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce 2 tbsp finely chopped shallots 2 tbsp finely chopped dill pickles
Spread 4 slices of rye bread with a good amount of Dijon mustard, add the cheese, silverside, a good dollop of the Russian dressing and some sauerkraut. Top with remaining slices of rye. Melt the butter in a large frying pan over medium heat. Fry the sandwich for 2 minutes until golden brown, then flip and fry again until golden brown and the cheese is melted.
