Rich in flavour, this soup is the perfect comfort food to fill you up on a cold winters day.
Ingredients
Method
Tips For Preparing Barley
750 grams beef shank bone and meat
Place bones, meat, water and barley in large pot, cover and simmer for one hour.
Like all grains, before cooking barley, rinse thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt or debris.
2 marrow bones
1/2 cup pearl barley 2.5 litres water
2 medium sized potatoes diced 1 cup diced celery
Add carrots, celery, onion, parsley, mushrooms, ground ginger, salt and pepper to taste.
5 whole sliced mushrooms
Cover and simmer for a further 45 minutes or until vegetables are tender.
1 teaspoon ground ginger
Remove bones and serve hot with crusty bread.
2 sliced onions
2 cups diced carrots
Salt and pepper to taste
