Neri&Hu + Stellar Works Rossana Hu & Lyndon Neri have brought their distinctive voice to Stellar Works as the company’s Creative Directors since 2015, while also keeping up with their fast growing, multidisciplinary studio, Neri&Hu Design and Research Office. Based in Shanghai with an office in London, these two designers/architects/entrepreneurs, have helped define Stellar Works in the 21st century, strengthening its role as a design brand while contextualizing its uniquely layered and multicultural heritage that weaves in Chinese, Japanese and French DNA. This hybridization fits well with Neri&Hu’s aesthetic philosophy, allowing them to explore its potential through creative collaborations, scenographies, and new design typologies in furniture and limited edition objects and accessories. At the heart of this relationship is Shanghai, the megacity, which for Neri&Hu is filled with so much potential to become a new reference in the design community. The rawness of old-world China combined with its thriving contemporary lifestyle, the vibrant street life and taste for luxury — few other cities challenge these extremes in such a powerful way, Stellar Works is right in the heart of this mix.

Craig Bassam & Scott Fellows + BassamFellows BassamFellows co-founder Scott Fellows is one of the most innovative creative directors working today. Merging extensive expertise in business and brand strategy with the instincts of a designer, Fellows has worked with some of the world’s most recognized brands. Known for his natural instinct for strategy and product development, Fellows has achieved successful rejuvenated brand identities for Ferragamo, Bally and Herman Miller. BassamFellows co-founder Craig Bassam is an architect who designs interiors, furniture, lifestyle products and homes. As the company’s chief designer, Bassam is responsible for BassamFellows’ celebrated Craftsman Modern aesthetic, applied across a collection of exceptionally crafted furniture and home and personal accessories. Bassam’s affinity for early modernism – its restrained beauty, simple proportions and rigorous craftsmanship – informs much of his designs. The architect and designer works like a classic modernist, producing total environments where architecture, interiors and furniture coalesce to complete a fully integrated experience. In 2013, Fellows partnered with architect Craig Bassam to launch BassamFellows, a new kind of American luxury company grounded in the principles of irreproachable craftsmanship, architectural rigor and sensual minimalism. Since the company’s inception, BassamFellows’ rigorously crafted aesthetic, which celebrates objects as timeless and rich in provenance, has achieved international recognition.

Presenting: Elemental Cocktails Each Evening 10.00 – 20.00 Press Preview 8 April, 10.00 – 20.00 BassamFellows have taken inspiration from the prosaic, elemental nature of some of their favourite materials. The resulting pieces are an expression of how sometimes the simplest yet most thoughtful manipulation of stone, wood, metal and leather can create something erudite and powerful. These pieces are about purity of shape and form, with nothing superfluous added. Subtlety is everything. Showcased at Milan this year, BassamFellows have created a tranquil exhibition space within rough concrete gallery walls. Raw-effect oak wood screens and panels painted in a deep, dark Prussian Blue first formulated in the 18th century in Berlin, separate and highlight the different materials into distinct zones The debut of these pieces at Milan this year is opposite. For some time the design duo have been fascinated by the history of stonemasonry in Italy, specifically in the region around Val Camonica, one of the largest valleys in the central Alps. For over 100 years this has been home to Moncini, the stonemasons that we collaborated with on a range of new benches and tables, rooted in traditions that go back generations, but executed in a totally contemporary way. The valley where Moncini are based is also the area with the largest collection of petroglyphs in the world. The simplicity of line of these prehistoric markings on stone intrigued us – they decorate the material’s surface with such a light, but also permanent, touch.

Presenting: Brodie Neill at Fuorisalone 2019 Returning to Brera Design District for the brand’s seventh Fuorisalone, the designer of the internationally acclaimed Cowrie and Alpha chairs, will unveil an extended collection of his now-iconic Alpha chair. The new additions include a high bar stool and a lower counter stool. The biomorphic form of the solid wood chair has been elongated with a footrest and a cross-brace while the lowered backrest and smaller seat accommodates a wider range of seating. The resulting profile is seamless and organic with all the sculptural attributes synonymous with the original Alpha chair. Making its debut, the Theorem screen is the studio’s first foray into the new design typology of a room divider. A voluminous tambour screen, Theorem is a fluid yin-yang structure of woven linen intercepted with laminated Douglas Fir slats at close intervals. The alternating but complementary materials create a soft interplay of light and warmth, of privacy and visibility, and breathability and rigidity. An organic intervention in the space, Theorem creates a subtle silhouette while animating the room. Completing the new releases is the Re-focus coffee table – an evolution of the low-level Focus table – the new pared-back version combines ebonised ash with marble. The circular design features an aperture in the centre allowing the blackened wood grain to act as a window to frame the solid marble below. The table is also available is a reversed combination of the two materials. Also on exhibit at the studio-garage on Via Palermo 8 will be the renowned Cowrie chair – this time in Ash with grey leather seat pad moulded to the soft contours of the sculptural lounge chair – and the Stellarnova dining table featuring a round solid black Belgian marble top and biomorphic branch-like cast bronze legs with a black patina finish.

His exhibition entitled Mediterranean Digital Baroque, at London’s David Gill Gallery, and the bathroom collection that he designed for ArtQuitect marked the start of his meteoric international rise, which was established with the Showtime collection for BD and his subsequent work with such companies as Metalarte, Camper, Lladró, Bisazza, Swarovsky and Moooi. Charly Vessa + Gufram Gufram is an Interior Design Italian brand globally known for pushing the limits of industrial design. With its Radical Design spirit and its nonconformist experimentation linked to aesthetic, technological and material research, Gufram has created seats and interior design icons that have entered collective imagination: playful, subversive and desecrating products with a POP soul, willingly designed as anti-design items. Gufram was born in Turin as an artisanal entity, where the craftsmen specialized in upholstery, cabinet making and furniture padding met the artistic and international avant-garde with the goal to give birth to a new way of understanding modern furniture. Gufram’s unmistakable furniture items like the lips shaped couch Bocca, the chaise lounge Pratone and the hall tree Cactus, also known as Domestic Sculptures able to interpret the contact point between both the artistic and the design worlds, are now displayed in the most beautiful houses and in the most renowned museums in the world. After its acquisition in 2012 by the entrepreneur Sandra Vezza, headquarters were moved to Barolo, in the Langhe region. Thanks to Charley Vezza’s artistic direction, Gufram has achieved an ambitious recovery through a new commercial and communication strategy which culminated in 2016 with the company’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

Samuel Lambert + Lambert & Fils Lambert & Fils is a collaborative lighting design studio founded in 2010 by Samuel Lambert. After a career in the visual arts and film editing, Samuel Lambert chose design and craftsmanship soon after the birth of his son, as a sort of nod to his own childhood spent in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, where he often assisted his own father, a potter—a full-circle moment for Lambert, which also explains the company’s name (in French, Lambert & Fils means Lambert & Sons). After working alone for a while in his small Beaubien street shop in Montreal, Samuel Lambert succeeded over the course of a few years to mold a creative yet rigorous studio, alongside a diversified team of young talents. Lambert & Fils draws inspiration from art, design and architecture history to create sleek yet poetic lights, in which apparent simplicity does not exclude design complexity. All collections are designed, manufactured and assembled in Montreal. Lambert & Fils commits itself to a tradition of high-quality in-house design, local savoir-faire, and a strong, collaborative team spirit.
