Title:​​ "Leaving all to Follow Christ" Key Scripture: Luke 5:11 SPS: To challenge the audience to consider what lengths we would or will go to follow Christ. Supporting Scriptures: Genesis 19:26, Genesis 12:1, Luke 14:26, John 15:9 Introduction: From the beginning of their calling, Christ’s disciples were required to choose - to prioritize between Christ everything else that mattered to them. Luke 5:11 (NKJV) So when they had brought their boats to land, ​they forsook all and followed Him. 1. This is a thread throughout God’s work with mankind… a. Abraham - Genesis 12:1 b. Lot’s wife leaving Sodom. i. Genesis 19:26 (NKJV) But his wife looked back behind him, and she became a pillar of salt. ii. What is it that reaches out for us… c. Children of Israel i. Interesting how even when they were clearly in a bad place in Egypt - they still complained about their situation in the wilderness...parallel to us - we do the same thing sometimes… 2. What God expects of us… a. Luke 14:26 (NKJV) "If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. b. (or can use Matthew 6:24 or 1 John 2:15) i. Matthew 6:24 (NKJV) "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. ii. 1 John 2:15 (NKJV). Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. Conclusion: God has been willing to completely give Himself to us... John 15:9 (NKJV) "As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.\ Are we willing to do the same?
