Interior Tips [ For myself, I like to keep updated on the latest musings and information on trends on an international level.]

Warunthon Hunanontasak Interior Designer Interior Visions Company Limited

A lot of those in the design field have probably heard of such Design Fairs as Milan Furniture Fair; in which a design event is arranged each year, and others have possibly been to similar design fairs. For myself, I like to keep updated on the latest musings and information on trends on an international level. This year was different than the past; I had a chance to actually go and see the Milan Furniture Fair for myself firsthand, by traveling there. I brought back the inspiration of first-hand views of the new developments in furniture design, in what we like to call: ‘Out Fair.’ Lots of us aren’t quite used to this term ‘Out Fair’ in which we physically get to see a Fair of such influence and magnitude. Perhaps, we’re mostly familiar with just the local venues, little halls arranged here and there in an exhibition form in Bangkok. But this massive fair in Milan has such an impact, to go and visit is incomprehensible. Its large scale has many sections at the fair, in which one day just isn’t enough to scratch the surface of

20 Interior Tips

all there is to see! There is something on display for literally every type of furnishing. Just one part is a small part of the extraordinary size encompassing the Milan Fair! This year, I got to visit Via Tortona, which is an area that if you see it, you’ll have to go back and see again. Elium Studio had some really inspired design concepts that I was most impressed with as well, that conceptualizes a revolutionary design for interactive learning for kids. The designers arranged space to enhance the

interactive learning environment for kids and their instructors, with the arrangement of interior space that is very helpful. There are many walls which function almost like that of a large sized digital board, arranged to be linked up to the digital devices that resemble a six-sided tablet, just for kids. This designer thought of the whole cycle of actions that occur and what is needed; really impressive. From there, it was off to Ventura Lembrate; that reminded me of being a young student, due to the practicality of the design for every-

LIVING GALLERY

day life, plus the idea; that when combined has a new profound meaning. For instance, brushing teeth thoroughly, but only requiring one minute. That is a hit with the kids, to get them to brush and only taking but a moment to do so in front of the mirror. One young female student from Italy found a design that allows kids to take the toothbrush from the toothbrush holder, and see a rainbow of colors reflecting in the mirror just before they go on to rinse. The sheer creativity from the students in their designs is what I marveled at the most without a doubt. Another major highlight was the University of Milan I got to see. There I saw a model set up showing Italiana Expo Milano 2015, which was an architectural model they made. The look was amazing how they took separate buildings that seem entirely unrelated, and linked them together with a design on the exte-

rior surface that harmonizes and justifies the buildings, by tying them together. The lasting impression is what we can again call the “Out Fair.” What a pleasure to get a glimpse into the new faces of design, and to get an idea of the fresh talent for up-and-coming designers of tomorrow! The Out

Fair is a like a public stage in which you can display your ideas to the fullest, regardless of your position in design. It can be said that not only was I impressed to see Milan in its entire splendor. I was also amazed by the methods in which the locals of Milan set up their Design Fair for presentation. It is obvious why Milan is viewed as a ‘Design Capital’ as it truly is indeed. Here in our native area, we do have design fair; but not of the incredible magnitude and sheer proportion as there. It would be nice to see larger scale design fairs here; more than merely at small venues. Something like Milan has, held at places like Bitec Bangna or Impact; a Bangkok equivalent. Bangkok is a great place for hosting large-scale design fairs.

Flexform Mood 2014 collection

King The bed broadens the offer for the bedroom. The sophisticated padded headboard with a large rhombus motif surrounded by a frame in wood, presents two lateral, moving wings that can be closed to make the area of the nightstands more cozy. The bed’s wide pedestal in wood is completed by a soft padded bed frame.

Ginevra The sofa firmly grounded on a metal base, it presents a back and arms that spread out, opening slightly like a petal. Copious, full cushions finish it off with upholstery in sophisticated fabrics. There are patterned silk satin velvets in a rich chromatic range that runs from sugar paper to dusty light blues, from earth tones to brick red and rust.

Elisabeth The armchair has a large, padded shell, it echoes the shape of the most classic of armchairs, and updates it with a special detail that makes it modern: a swiveling base that allows easy adjustment.

Crown The table has a circular base, a sort of grille in lacquered metal, almost like a crown. It presents a decidedly generous size and a flat surface in wood that brings together three slices of marble insets in a wooden frame.

Giorgetti 2014 collection Town The Town cabinet is an innovative and transforming project which, by using the shape of a slender parallelepiped can be accessorized as a bookcase, shoe rack, chest of drawers and bar. The outer shell is made from walnut canaletto and exalts the beauty of the veins of the wood; the inner cabinet is made with fine inserts in saddle leather and metal. Town becomes the star feature of the living room or of the walk-in wardrobe thanks to an exceptional attention to detail. Venus The Venus dressing table is a feminine object which recalls times of the past. It is offered again in a contemporary rein terpretation thanks to a soft and linear approach. It is made from essence of walnut canaletto and saddle leather and has a set of small containers for beauty secrets.

Eva The Eva armchair is a tribute to woman par excellence which, with its sinuous and sensual lines. The elements have an external structure in saddle leather and metal with titanium finishes, created thanks to refined craftsmanship.

LIVING GALLERY

Pochette Minimalist but majestic, light but with character, the Pochette bed tells of an aesthetic balance made up of lines that are only just hinted at and precise volumes. It is produced in essence of walnut canaletto and has saddle leather upholstery that recalls a clutch bag in its lines.

Aura The Aura collection reveals the woodworking expertise of Giorgetti that lets the company’s craftsmen mould this noble raw material into shape. The upholstery of the back is saddle leather achieved with a special routing process.

Move The theme of the rocking chair is presented with the enveloping Move armchair. The seat with a dynamic, elegant and sinuous design is a challenge in terms of production that Giorgetti enthusiastically accepted, giving rise to an armchair with great aesthetic balance, in which the wooden structure is created thanks to two interlocking organically-shaped elements. The lightness of the curved structural elements and the rocking movement make this design a masterpiece. It is made up of 30 pieces of solid ash.

Ago A light and minimalist stroke defines the sofas with solid walnut canaletto base structure and goose down fillings. The modernist lines of the sofa and of the armchairs are rounded by some soft cushions supplied as standard and to which others can be added for a pleasant cocooning effect.

Sumo The bedroom is the last word in comfort. Thanks to Sumo, a bed that has reinterpreted deep buttoned upholstery in a modern and more informal key: its folds accompany a sartorial finish to create a soft and serene atmosphere. The lower part of the headboard is shaped in such a way as to embrace the base, which enables the use of different wire frames as well as a convenient under-mattress storage compartment.

Gramercy The Gramercy has the graphical and sinuous repetition of perimeter sectional lines and enhanced by the textural contrast of earthy colours which outline its almost amoebic shape.

30 MisuraEmme

LIVING GALLERY

Hella Hella has renewed its look by making recourse to the softness of quilted horizontally woven cannetĂŠ. The chair legs are in die-cast aluminium and available in different colours with brushed and varnished finishes.

Archetto Archetto is a chair whose curved legs seem to reflect the shape of the seat. The distinctive feature of this product is the way in which its solid wood has been skilfully crafted, particularly evident in the joints and differently shaped sections.

Florentia Speaking of softness, the Florentia armchair comes to mind with its compact dimensions. Its seams and zips outline the profile of the chair and create a contrast between the inner and outer surfaces. An impacting presence on the domestic scene, Florentia makes a particularly effective statement when positioned in public lounge areas.
