CHEAT DAY

Because life’s too short to always order the salad

WHEN IN ROME Whether it’s fresh pasta smothered in rich sauce, a hearty portion of lasagne or a gooey bowl of risotto, there are few things that revive a tired spirit quite like good old Italian fare. If you’re feeling a bit down in the dumps, ditch the healthy routine for a night and embrace perfectly prepared carbohydrates at the newly opened Ask for Alonzo in Tai Hang. After success with their first outlet in Quarry Bay, the team behind this Italian job have opened a second, much larger premises, just off trendy Tai Hang Road. Starters include Roman meatballs, which arrive cloaked in homemade tomato sauce and plenty of parmesan, as well as the oven-baked Tomino cheese, a dish sweet and salty in equal measure. For mains, the truffle and mushroom ragout fettuccine is positively decadent, while the signature rigatoni amatriciana is a dish so simple it’s hard to comprehend how it tastes so good. Needless to say, next time we’re feeling a bit blue, we’ll know exactly where to go. 11 Lin Fa Kung St. West, Tai Hang, 3101-8045, askforalonzo.com.
