———————— Hallo! Ik ben Alyssa, ontwerpster bij en eigenaresse van Stitchonomy en blogger en instructrice bij De Borduur Academy. In mijn eerste boek ‘Cross Stitch Collages’ heb ik honderden kleine borduurpatronen ontworpen en samengesteld in 10 prachtige collages. Ik leg je uit hoe je begint met kruissteken en wat je nodig hebt. Daarnaast vind je 20 stap-voor-stap uitgelegde inspirerende projecten! Met moderne kruissteekpatronen laat ik je zien dat borduren meer kan zijn dan steekjes op stof - het is een manier om gemakkelijk en snel wat kleur en vrolijkheid in je leven te creëren!

In my first book, Cross Stitch Collages, I have designed hundreds of tiny cross stitch patterns and arranged them in 10 beautiful collages. I will show you how to start cross stitching and what you will need. You will also find step-by-step instructions for 20 inspiring projects! ———————— HOE GEBRUIK JE DIT BOEK? Het boek is verdeeld in 10 thema’s. De patronen voor de gehele collage vind je achterin het boek, maar je kunt ook alle kleine patronen individueel gebruiken of met elkaar combineren. Aan de achterkant van de kaft vind je een gaatjessjabloon. Hiermee kun je een rooster maken op elke stof die je wilt! Gebruik het template als je wilt gaan borduren op andere stoffen dan speciale kruissteekstof.
Linnen Deze stof heeft van nature een meer onregelmatige weving dan evenweave stoffen. Het mooie aan deze stof is dat je de gaatjes eigenlijk niet ziet, waardoor je borduurwerk er echt uitspringt! Kruissteken op andere stoffen Veel projecten in dit boek zijn gemaakt op speciale kruissteekstoffen maar dat betekent niet dat je niet op andere stoffen kunt kruissteken. Maar omdat de meeste stoffen niet evengeweven zijn, heb je wat hulpmiddelen nodig om op andere stoffen zoals T-shirts, tote bags of zelfs papier te kruissteken.
Bij de projecten staat een materialenlijst en een stap-voor-stap uitleg. Omdat niet alle borduursters ook naaisters zijn kun je alle projecten met de hand afwerken (hoewel je natuurlijk altijd een naaimachine kan gebruiken).
In het algemeen is het belangrijk dat je de stof of het product eerst een keer wast voordat je begint met borduren. Strijk (daarna) de stof liefst ook om te voorkomen dat je over vouwen heen borduurt. Bepaal welk patroon je gaat borduren en houd rekening met hoeveel kruisjes er passen op de ondergrond.
WAT HEB IK NODIG OM TE BEGINNEN?
TIP: zorg er bij gebruiksvoorwerpen zoals kleding en tassen voor dat alle draden extra goed zijn afgehecht.
Om te beginnen met kruissteekborduren heb je drie dingen nodig: stof, garen en een naald. Daarnaast zijn er een aantal handige tools zoals een borduurring, een leuk borduurschaartje en een wateroplosbare stift.
1 STOF Kruissteekborduren doe je meestal op aftelstof. Aftelstof is stof die evenveel draden verticaal heeft als horizontaal waardoor er vierkantjes ontstaan. Er zijn allerlei soorten borduurstoffen maar de belangrijkste zijn: Aida Deze stof wordt het meest gebruikt voor kruissteekborduren. Deze stof heeft een duidelijk vierkantjes patroon. De gaten zijn goed zichtbaar waardoor je naald er gemakkelijk doorheen gaat. De vierkantjes op de stof komen overeen met de vierkantjes op het telpatroon. Evenweave Deze stoffen hebben evenveel draden per centimeter in de horizontale en de verticale richting én de draden zijn van dezelfde dikte. De collages zijn allemaal geborduurd op evenweave stoffen. Binnen deze categorie heb je allerlei verschillende stoffen zoals Lugana & Jobelan.

Template Aan de achterkaft van dit boek vind je een gaatjessjabloon. Dit template kun je gebruiken om een raster te maken op elke stof die je wilt. • Leg het template op de ondergrond. • Gebruik een wateroplosbare pen om stipjes te zetten. • Zo maak je een eigen raster waar je op kunt kruissteken. • Wil je een kleiner raster? Maak dan extra puntjes tussen alle puntjes in en 1 in het midden! Er gaan vier kleine kruisjes in 1 groot kruis. LET OP: een gewoon potlood kun je niet van stof verwijderen!

————————— HOW TO USE THIS BOOK The book is laid out in 10 themes. The patterns for the entire collages can be found in the back of the book, but you can also use each tiny pattern individually or combine them. At the back of the cover flap you will find a grid template. With this template, you can create a grid on any fabric you want! Use the template if you want to cross stitch on fabrics other than special cross stitch fabric. Every project includes a materials needed list and a stepby-step instruction. Because not all stitchers also sew, you can finish each project by hand (you can of course also use a sewing machine).
WHAT DO I NEED TO BEGIN? To start cross stitching you will need three things: fabric, floss and a needle. Additionally, there are a few useful tools like an embroidery hoop, cool embroidery scissors and a water soluble pen.
1 FABRIC Cross stitching is usually done on special countable fabric. This fabric has the same amount of threads vertically as horizontally which creates squares on the fabric. There are many different types of cross stitch fabric but the most important are:
Linen
This fabric has a more natural and irregular look than evenweave. The nice thing about this fabric is that you can’t really see the squares so your cross stitching really stands out! Cross stitching on other fabrics
A lot of the projects in this book are made with special cross stitch fabric but that doesn’t mean you can’t cross stitch on other fabrics. Because most fabrics are not evenweave fabrics you need some tools to stitch on other fabrics like T-shirts, tote bags or even paper! TIP: when stitching on clothing or products that are subject to wear and tear, make sure that all your threads are secured extra well! Template
At the back of the cover flap you will find a grid template. With this template, you can create a grid on any fabric you want! • Place the template on your chosen surface. • Use a water soluble pen to make dots. • The dots form a grid on which you can cross stitch. • Want a smaller grid? Add extra dots in between all dots and one in the middle. 1 large cross consists of 4 small crosses. NOTE: you cannot remove regular pencil from fabric!
Aida
Used most often for cross stitching. The squares on this fabric are clearly visible as are the holes. This makes it very easy for your needle to pass through. The squares on the fabric correspond with the squares on the pattern.
STOF | FABRIC
Evenweave
These fabrics have the same amount of threads vertically as horizontally and these threads all have the same thickness. All collages in the book have been stitched on evenweave fabrics. Within this category there are many different types like Lugana & Jobelan.

SUNGLASSES CASE

Materialen: • Zonnebril sjabloon (pagina 84) • Wit papier A4 • Potlood • Grote schaar • Borduurgaren (zie patroon op pagina 74) • Scherpe borduurnaald • Imitatie suède • Vilt • Lintje (15 cm)
Materials:
Instructies: 1. M aak eerst een sjabloon van je zonnebril of gebruik het sjabloon op pagina 84. 2. Vouw het A4-tje dubbel en leg je zonnebril tegen de dubbelgevouwen rand. Trek de vorm van je bril over en knip deze uit. 3. Leg het sjabloon op je stof en trek over. Knip de stof uit. 4. L eg het gaatjessjabloon (zie achterflap) op de stof en maak een raster. 5. B orduur het gewenste patroon met een hele streng borduurgaren (6 draadjes). 6. L eg het sjabloon op een stuk vilt en trek over. Knip het vilt uit. 7. L eg de geborduurde stof plat neer met het ontwerp op de tafel. 8. Zorg dat het patroon aan de bovenkant ligt. 9. Leg het vilt er bovenop. 10. Leg het lintje tussen het vilt en de suède. 11. N aai nu alles met de hand of met de naaimachine aan elkaar.

• Sunglasses template (page 84) • Sheet of printer paper • Pencil • Big scissors • Embroidery floss (see pattern on page 74) • Scharp cross stitch needle • Faux suede • Felt • Ribbon (6˝) 1. F irst, make a template of your sunglasses or use the pattern on page 84. 2. F old the sheet of printer paper in half and place your sunglasses against the folded edge. Trace the shape of your glasses and cut out. 3. P lace the template on your fabric and trace. Cut the fabric. 4. U se the grid template to create a grid (see back flap). 5. C ross stitch the pattern with an entire thread of embroidery floss (6 strands). 6. P lace the template on a piece of felt and trace. Cut the felt. 7. L ay the cross stitched fabric flat with the design facing down. 8. M ake sure the pattern is at the top. 9. P lace the felt on top. 10. P lace the ribbon between the felt and the suede. 11. N ow sew everything together by hand or with the sewing machine.

Materials:
Instructies: 1. Als je geen geperforeerd kussen hebt gebruik dan het gaatjessjabloon om een raster te maken op je kussensloop (zie achterflap). 2. Leg de kussensloop plat op tafel. 3. G ebruik een wateroplosbare stift om het raster te maken. 4. Borduur het patroon. 5. Doe het binnenkussen in de kussensloop.

Instructions:
1. I f you don’t have a perforated pillow, use the grid template to create a grid on your pillowcase (see back flap). 2. Lay the pillowcase flat on the table. 3. Use a water soluble marker to create the grid. 4. Cross stitch the pattern. 5. Put the inner pillow in the pillowcase.
