COLORADO CLIMATE

The arid conditions bring only 8 to 15 inches of annual precipitation, and locals wake up to more than 300 days of sunshine each year.

Winters are mild, with an average daily high temperature of 45 degrees. Reaching 60 degrees is not uncommon. Snow doesn’t stay on the ground long in Denver, so golf courses and outdoor cafes are able to stay open year-round. However, the nearby mountains and ski resorts often receive significant annual snowfall.

In Summer, Denver enjoys low relative humidity, making for beautiful, sun-filled days and cool, comfortable evenings. The average daily high temperature in August is a mild 86 degrees. The temperate weather is due in part to the city’s altitude: 5,280 feet above sea level, or exactly one mile high.

TRANSPORTATION

DENVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Located 23 miles northeast of downtown Denver, DIA is the 3rd busiest in America and in the world. An iconic Denver landmark with 23 commercial carriers, DIA provides nonstop service to more than 190 domestic and international destinations. The Westin Denver International Airport Hotel is now conveniently located just steps from the main terminal.

RTD (REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION DISTRICT)

Metro Denver has built an entire mass transit system, adding 122 miles of rapid Ligh Rail transit and expanded its existing bus network. Currently, the RTD serves 2,342 square miles over 143 fixed routes.

TRAIN TO PLANE

A new rail line running from downtown Denver to Denver International Airport in just 37 minutes makes local and international travel easier than ever before.

UNION STATION

Offering an extensive network of convenient options, Union Station serves as Denver’s energetic transportation hub. Locals, tourists and business travelers alike are welcome to partake in RTD’s Front Range bus route, Light Rail line networks and a full Amtrak train schedule.

The region’s K-12 education system includes 19 public school districts, as well as a number of private and parochial school systems.

The system offers many educational choices, including high-quality public schools with alternative learning environments such as charter and magnet schools.

Although excellent private schools are available in Metro Denver, they are not utilized as highly as in other cities due to the quality of our public school system. About 10% of the total student population attended private schools in Metro Denver.

Metro Denver schools all offer open enrollment, meaning students living in one school district can attend a school in any other district. This allows parents to select schools that match each student’s individual needs.

SCHOOLS AND EDUCATION

HIGHER EDUCATION

The Metro Denver region provides a wide range of higher education opportunities, encompassing a variety of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs at 11 public and private four-year colleges and universities.

Colorado’s community colleges offer employers customized training opportunities to meet changing workforce needs.

PROPERTY TAX

The State of Colorado assesses property taxes based on individual school districts. Colorado has some of the lowest residential property taxes in the country, with an average effective rate of just 0.62%, lower than the national median of 0.99%.
