Letter From The Editor
The Christmas holiday quickly approaches and, as in FL (first life), we in SL are putting up decorations, going on Christmas present hunts, visiting SL stores for Santa suits, prim turkeys, and snow for the yard on ‘our land’. What we are also doing is preparing to ‘share time’ with those special and close to us ‘in world ‘. Second Life, as we all know, affords you the opportunity to make, some really good friends and create very close-knit family-like ties. Our time ‘in-world’ during the year is very special - as we go about building bonds and connections that we never thought imaginable. Therefore, we want to share holiday time with our SL families as much as we do our FL families... sharing in the love and joy of the season. The virtual landscape of SL and Christmas should be a time to gather our SL family and friends at our SIM homes and visit and share. Let us take time out this holiday and let your SL family and friends know they are special to you and that they play an important role in the entirety of your full life - (FL/SL) combined. From all of us at Queen Magazine to all of you…..we wish you a merry, Merry Christmas! Xena, Editor-in Chief/ CEO December 5th, 2009

rIVERWALK: THE ART PARK
Written By: QueenBanker Lexico Photography By: Lixena Lamourfou Riverwak an open public area is a scenic cultural treasure that should not be missed. It is a combination clubhouse, art gallery and nature perserve. The entrance point , the Cliffhouse is the gamehouse with tables such as Backgammon, Mah Jong, Spades, SLoply, On-A-Roll and Settlers of SL and others. Down from the cliffhouse is a series of terraced decks that lead down to the docks where swan boats can be rented, which take on you a 20-minute narrated excursioin down the river. This is but the tip of the iceberg of what there is to see and do at Riverwalk. DECEMBER 2009

The highlight for me is the “Art. Local artists are allowed to display between the trees in clearings and along the cobblestone walk their wares for free, with many available for purchase. If you are looking to spend some downtime in a lagg free but beautifully rendered sim. Go to Riverwalk, wander the footpaths and discover fantastic artistic works. [ Ganymede 32, 219, 23]

10 Stylish Fashion Tips 1. Forget about the word “fashion” and think “style” – it may be mentally less intimidating or more “wearable!” 2. Even if you stay at home, make an effort to dress everyday as if you are going out. This changes your whole approach to even the most mundane household chores. You will find you have a more positive attitude and are less inclined to be reduced to a couch potato, in your slovenly sweat pants and baggy T-shirt. 3. Clear out your closet. Get rid of those items which are outdated, do not suit you or simply do not make you feel good. Make room for that new wardrobe of clothes that you are going to build, slowly, piece by piece. 4. Take stock of how many classic items you currently have in your closet. Start building new outfits which will prove versatile and timeless – go anywhere and do anything. You should aim to have a wardrobe base of well cut, classic pieces and a few cheap fun, fashionable outfits that are right on trend, which can be replaced every season. 5. Treat your wardrobe as an investment. “Create a closet that is full of must-have pieces rather than make-do ones.”

6. Ensure that your wardrobe is built around some style staples which will take you from season to season and can be dressed up or down. A good coat, a little black dress, a wrap dress, well cut denims, a classic pair of black pants, cashemere cardigan and a stylish crisp white shirt. Update these looks every season with some fab accessories. 7. Buying a really great bag and a pair of look-at-me shoes, which will transform any outfit. 8. Get to know your body shape. Are you a pear, apple, brick, hour glass or inverted triangle? Read up on the free fashion advice available and learn how to dress for your body shape. 9. Learn how to play down your flaws and make the most of your assets. Learn how to disguise big hips, stomachs or a larger bust and learn what not to wear if you are short or flat-chested. 10. Shop smarter. Ask yourself a few key questions regarding what suits you before you shop and plan what to buy in advance.

Xstreet’s Roamap: How to Kill A Merchant Written By” Lixena Lamourfou There is much ado about the new “Roadmap” declared by Linden Labs last month. It has caused much angst in the forums by merchants who feel awfully betrayed by these proposed controls. Many of the statements made in the blog post November 18th, 2009 In the Second Life Blogs were taken offensively by many. Here is a quick summary of what is proposed: 1. 2. 3.
A Monthly Listing Fee for Free Items of L$99 A Minimum Commission of L$3 on all items priced L$1 and higher A Monthly Listing Fee of L$10 for all items L$1 and higher
So basically, they are raising merchants fees in a way that will make selling on Xstreet expensive. Already merchants are paying commission for items sold, now the Lindens are asking for listing fees per item regardless if the item has sold or not. I was confused myself simply by their goals:
Our goals are as follows: 1. Enable shoppers to quickly find the type of item they want, at the quality they want, and at the price that makes sense to them. 2. Enable merchants to find these customers and put their products in front of them.
First, I do not think that it is up to the Lindens to set pricing it is not their responsibility to bring common sense in pricing to XstreetSL, for it is a free market. Pricing is set by supply and demand. Secondly, merchants do not find customers, XstreetSL is available for customers to find merchants and our products. It seems as though Linden Labs is trying to adopt a Ebay-ish like marketplace in an effort to create a new revenue stream for corporate. I think this plan is very poorly thought out and decided without doing proper research into how and why XstreetSL exists. The general conclusion held by many merchants if this proposed plan is executed they will all closed down shop and look for other ways to supplement their store revenues. There are a few other Second Life virtual shopping sites available to these merchants such as slapt.me. One thing is for sure this move has merchants feeling “no love from Linden Labs and the adoption of these controls will kill off more business then it will support. DECEMBER 2009
