Site Plan
Urban Position The site stands at the corner point of the 1930’s neighbourhood, which becomes vague in urban forms with later expansion. The building complex closes up the corner of the 1930’s neighbourhood, transforming the former parking plot exposed to the road into a defined urban space.
4
Church Kindergarten
The building volumns are oriented in relation to the existing buildings and trees, a series of open space linked in an infinite loop.
5
Urban Presence The enclosure forms a continuous street facade around the corner. The goup of old and new buildings presents as a analogious complex.

13
Transitions The transition between the front and back cortyards suggests sequnce and heirarchy within the complex. The visual axsis goes through the two cortyards, with access upward and forward on its left and right.

15
Cortyard of Dwellings
The cloister-like cortyard is surrounded by dwellings, with flowerbeds and fountain in the middle. The human-scaled inner facades consist of bay windows and balconies.
16
This long cortyard is a more private back yard, at the back side of the school and the church. The flowerbeds and the pavement hold different buildings together.

23
Modernism in Context
The site is at the entrance of the largest Post-War Modernist new city, the Neustadt, which is highly distinguishable in urban fabric compareed with the Halle old city.

Modernism in Composition
26
Extensive Square There are certain principles in the co,position of modern architecture, with extensive ‘windmill‘ geometry. Like in Chandigarh, centrality is often represented as a square with extensions, dominating the mega scale complex.
27
Routing beyond Modernism The windmill geometry in the routing of modern architecture is represented in the memorial, but in three-dementional composition. The height difference from the road to the site is considered, leading half floor up or down towards public and private functions.

Library Typology
A library is a pattern defined by its function. The typology of bookshelves, stairs, and corridors happened when necessary, rendering itself a pure result of its own logic.

Gravity: Hanging and Laying The crane structure in the factory is designed to bear the dynamic load of carrying train engines, strong enough to hold the hanging boxes. A single floor platform lays on the ground, without reinforcement of the current floor. The space is filled with tension of hanging and laying structure, of gravity and non-gravity expression.

Waterfront
It is human nature to step down from stairs to get close to the water. As all the shores of the lake are abrupt straight banks, the stratage of the north shore is to create public steps towards the water and sunshine, a place where the students can really enjoy the lake view.
46
25
Auditorium
The basic geometric feature that defines a theater is the centralized steps. The semi-eclosed place gives a sence of actor and audience characters, and stimulates gatherings and shows.
47
Public Gallery
The gallery under the slope provides a flat and open space, an extension of the public realm. The prototype of the gallery is a historical reference of the plaza before a Greek amphitheatre, allowing spontaneous social life and club activities on campus.
Amphitheatre
The steps of waterfront forms a grandstand towards the lake, a natural expression of publicity. The curves of the steps generates a gathering and focusing tendance of audience.
Professional Theatre
The broad grandstand gives a theatre feeling, defining a territory of performance of all kinds. The inserted boxes set several sections on the wide steps, defining the professional theatres in the boxes and the informal theatres between the boxes.

Detachment of Facade
Facade Paradox
Tower-podium typology
54
Reversal of atrium
Facade as public space
Strip the Facade
As the scale of the high-rise buildings leads to unavoidable detachment of surface and solid, A reversed typology is generated, making the facade of the building a intermedia of the interior-exterior communication.
Tense surface forms a coherent space
Volume of public space
Interrelation between mass and skin
Vertical circulation
55
Internal and External
Plaza The facade opens to the plaza, forms a colonnade space with street furniture, a semi-outdoor space interacts with the plaza.
Bus Station A passage connects the bus station with the inner plaza, providing direct access to the office tower and the commercial podium.
56
57
58
In-between The tense surface covering all 3 volumes forms a continuous variable section space, as the facade of the building. Unlike the atriums in the shopping mall, the surface space is closely related to the real world, manifesting the activities inside the building.

A Platform of Bauhaus The proposal is to define the territory for the museum from the broad open space, a space of significance and identity. A grand lifted platform was positioned on the park, bringing visitors from all directions to the front of the museum. The sequence starts from the outside, with a series of walls extending to the interior, using interactive media to represent a fragment of Bauhaus Arts.
