ARK CONTEMPORARY MUSEUM 317 East Broadway Columbia MO ARK Contemporary Museum designs to be a multifunction institutional facility serving both the University of Missouri Columbia and the City of Columbia by providing a dwell of culture and arts. The building concept depicts a scenery image from Genesis 6:14-16, Noah’s Ark, the grand vessel carried with lives and human civilization survived in the floods; it came to a stop in a city of Midwest after miles of obstacles and shifted itself to a significant landmark along with the development of the city. Assembling by four major components, the museum building, has its architectural gesture resembling the grand vessel from Noah’s Ark. Each component has its designated exhibition purpose. The highlighted design features include the grand staircase, the major entrance of the building; the ground level cafeteria, an inclusive public space for gathering and resting; the central staircase, reinforced by suspended wood slats, navigates the circulation between floors; lastly the auditorium, tuning under the cutting-edge acoustics guidelines, provides 300 occupancy space for large public events. Skylights are integrated seamlessly with a structural frame. These natural light features forged a tight bond between spa ce and structural envelop while shaping a unique exhibition experience through the form of the building.

THE LAKE HOUSE
The Lake House is located on wide open waterfront property on the west shore of Union Lake Michigan. Views from the site stretch across the bay to encompass the skyline of the white lake charter township and the community on the north shore of the lake. Beyond, the house is organized with living spaces below ground, and 4 bedrooms, study, and lap pool above. The pool, with terraces at each end, runs along the entire west side of the house.

The Classic of Poetry The Classic of Poetry (Shijing) is widely known as the oldest existing collection of Chineses poems and the time ranges approximately from 1100 to 700 B.C. it is divided into three parts: Feng(Airs), Ya(Odes), and Song(Hymns), incorporate the oldest cultural characteristics as well as the social morale of the state from which the poems were collected. It is also demonstrated as a cultural heritage that Shijing is still a part of the learned discourse and even everyday language in modern Chinese. Therefore, it is my biggest motivation to design this ancient book from a contemporary perspective to encourage young generations to appreciate those beautiful words and understand the story behind sentences.
