WOKE by Liz Rhaney
September’s MMC was
The Music That Got Me Woke - a night to celebrate the music that inspires, enlightens, and wakes us up. Guest speakers shared songs that impacted them. There were also some powerful live performances by some guests. With the aggressive rhetoric and divisive/nihilistic tone of the upcoming presidential elections, these songs were meant to not only provide a break from all of that, but also remind us that government is an instrument of the people. *photos on this page by Don Teuton

everything is
Political-of or relating to government Living is Political. Simply ex i sti n g can be political, especially if you live in a system that constantly threatens that existence. What we do, think and say can influence our governments or be a rebellion against it. *photo on this page by Liz Rhaney **Merriam Webster Definition
ART Is E XPRE S S ION and has been used to speak truths that otherwise would go unspoken. Sometimes that truth is in sweeping theories on government and social justice. Sometimes that truth is in talking about one’s life and feelings. Hiphop is a form of diplomacy. Punk Rock is a universal middle finger. Jazz is always in a rebel’s back pocket. Music=(R)evolution
