I engage in concreting the creative ideas by offering the rich and practical space. To obtain the maximum professional training, I explored architectural design with various forms and style, and unified them by ability to generate new typologies and wide design concerns. Usually buildings are carefully organized and coordinated with site’s culture background and urban texture.

Overview: The National Museum of Environmental Sociology. (A research design for course) Located in National Mall, Washington DC, this project focus on efficiently organizing the space and spirit relationship among three different system---1.main volume module, 2.in-between flow space and 3.penetrate bridges, to present the theme of the project--how the environmental sociology changes along the history. The 3D mapping and augment reality technique are used as interior scene to show the dynamic process of changing, which provide visitors better experience with interaction.
Process: The project’s idea, exploring and treating the relationship between nature and human society as a dialectical balance, were enlightened from We Have Never Been Modern by Latou, and bodied by installation, multiple process massing model, and eventually developed architectural design.

Sao Paulo now is in an intense process of urbanism, which faces problems like population explosion, environment pollution, and infrastructure deficiency. These situations are essentially caused by the infliction between private requirement and public distribution, which means the city resource supports can’t meet individual needs, physical or spiritual.

When interfacing this situation, besides exploring more potential resource, how you are distributing and assessing resources is also significantly controlling portion of high-efficient infrastructure, quality social environment and self-sustaining system. In my scheme, I focused on redesigning the urban develop process and resources distribution system in different scales, while using energy infrastructures, agriculture infrastructure, mobility infrastructure, public space, housing and job opportunity as catalysts.
Invest infrastructure system at potential developing spots abandon private blocks, valuable public blocks, or black area.
Providing new construction platforms for housing transfer, enlarging the direct attach opportunity with RCs, enhancing the efficiency of getting resource.
Accumulate blocks vertically to enlarge their service range and public level aiming to supply more citizen’s requests.
The city’s topography is changed to a more balanced way, part of ground is released as the “free” niches, which have potential to tackle new programing reflecting the surroundings communities’ needs.
Integrate old structure and new program.
Stretch more paths to add the block’s accessibility.
More Resources Capitals are developed, which get efficient generation, distribution and reception involved in different industrials and the variation of programing. The inches unique physical and social identity.
Program also develop along the bridges between RCs to strengthen their connection and maximized the use for the bridge’s space. Eventually RC system’s may stop growth until it’s survive range and urban public survive range achieve a balance.

Single RC tower can be regard as a integrated self-supported system. It produces energy and food, provides living communities, and offers education institutions and other people’s spiritual requirement.
Communities are constructed with the integration strategies. Families are encouraged to share public space in living communities, which also a section of RC’s agriculture theme. Communities provided the unified working place like aquaponic lab.

Infrastructural Urbanism Design: Emergence Integrated energy industrial Water supply station
Energy industrials process has potential and meaning to be integrated together. Because of the technique limitation, energy industrial emerged relatively individually, and usually has its own isolated produce process far away from people’s concern. Different energy industrials actually can have many similar facilities to share, “wasted” materials to utilize, and efficient schedule to cooperate.

Military Base Design: Infiltration Job Opportunity as Community New industrials chains can provide a large amount daily job for different knowledge background; meanwhile the whole building ask for both intelligence and labor for operation and maintenance. Job places are easier to access, and the average commuting time reduces from over 2 hours to 15mins. Most important, people work together as communities, and get their identities and satisfaction while working and supporting the system.
System integration The transportation station has tight cooperation relationship with other programs like Agriculture vertical panels, the market, the mall, the library and also the fabric factories. Citizen can get evolve in the producing process, and have more idea how the resources flow while they enjoying their living here.

When facing the severe threatened of sea level rise, we proposed our program as a mediation between original urban and the modified feature landscape. Via analyzing the existing city’s urban conditions, we “parasite” new construction on existing structure, utilizing the original facilities, protecting the important culture programs, and modifying the old function according to new urban requirement.

Designer: WG Clark Ednund Schureman Campbell Professor of Architecture Campbell Hall addition provides significant academic space in UVa Architecture School. Its’ incredible well-done details and tight standard fascinate me a lot. I built up the Revit model from general building massing to customized details, according to existing CAD and in site measuring. It’s a great exercise for me to polish Revit skills systematically, re-understand building construction, and analyzing documentation.

Historical Architecture Restoration Design: Reborn of Pinghe Packing Field

Type Time Instructor Location
Convention Center Mar.-Jun 2015 Wei Zhou Wuhan, PRC
Background: Back to 1900s, Wuhan was forced to open the port to the foreign countries. In 1905, British Pinghe Back set the Packing Field in Hankou district, which gradually became the outstanding historical building. This Packing Field, mainly aiming to pack cotton in the past time, was abandoned during the great reforming in past 20 years. Recently, people have better realization about the value of it, and start trying various agencies to give it new life. The Packing Field is consisted by 5 different buildings in different time, which means their style, structure, and space altered according to the unique situations. Part of the packing facilities were kept and apply the building unique identities. We cared about these identities as well as the transformation from the past room ratio to the modern one. Meanwhile, the vacant site space were designed to an citizen plaza, which make sure that people’s activities can be penetrate into building spontaneously. Before we stated the design job, lots of research about the condition of the buildings were done, and here I think it’s better to show more results.

Tasks: •Arouse the memory of the area by emphasizing multiplying the culture area like public library, education center, “Pinghe” museum and as well as modifying original appearance of the historical building. •Find the direction of its self-renewal by arranging the function according to industrial structure of the area, optimize the relationship between this huge building and environment and adjusting the recent market requirement by research. •Emphasize the importance of sustainability by using the original structure and local material with design strategies. •Dig the potential form the old big factory space by matching the smaller space devision to it.

Combining the advantages from both traditional and modern residential buildings, this project strives to find a logic to create sample units that can match clients’ various requirements, local landscape and culture customs well. Since its flexible compound mode and good cooperation with mountainous regions, the project acts as prototype for this area, and can be widely spread and developed.
18
Residential building design: Custom Tailor Background: Our site located in a Chinese mountainous area, where a lot of traditional buildings locate. On the one hand, people ask for the modern living condition, on the other hand, they are very connected to the old building. So make the combination of advantages abstracted from both contemporary and traditional ones can be a good strategy.
Traditional element: Group trait:
People enjoy sharing daily life in the public platform
Individual trait:

Besides tackling the basic design requirements, I tried to figure out some urban problems like the congestion, commercial incoherence and absence of public space with the conditions provide by site. Supported by local climate and principle that wind flows from the higher pressure area to the lower pressure area, a interior wind channel was designed to maximum natural ventilation. The rotated plans and atrium in each floors make the channel possible in form.

Public building design:“Keep “Breaking the Wall” community library Backpackers’ camp design: Climbing” Other works This design aims to provide a semi-self service camp for urban backpackers. Site and structure analyzing here are significant. The relationship between buildings and environment was carefully designed to provide better route, sightseeing and security according to the investigation. By setting the in-between corridor and unifying units’ slope according to the land form, the consistence feeling of climbing is created; thus, the corridors in units can be regarded as both interior connection and segment of hiking trip.
