Western Campus Student Success Workshops Students are more likely to complete their degrees or certificates when they take advantage of on-campus resources. The Western Campus offers more than 50 informative workshops on topics related to academic success, finance, personal wellness, Tri-C information and workforce preparation that will help students in and out of the class. Bring these workshops to your class to help your students succeed. To request a workshop for your class, complete a Counselor Request Form and submit it to Counseling. Academic Success Conquering Procrastination Do you cram for tests? Do you procrastinate? Do you often feel overwhelmed by all you have to do and don’t know when you’ll find the time to get it done? Learn the tools and techniques to help you control your time, rather than allowing time to control you.

Critical Thinking Do you learn as effectively today as you did when you were a child? What could you do today to increase your learning at Tri-C and in life? Explore the idea of “Critical Thinking” and become a “Creator.”

Discover Your Learning Style Are you interested in knowing your preferred learning style? Complete an assessment to help you understand the way you learn best. Explore different learning styles and develop effective studying techniques to maximize your learning potential.

Exploring Memory Techniques Explore the memory jungle. Learn 20 techniques and strategies for remembering.

I Can’t Remember What I Just Read Have you ever sat down to read an assignment in one of your textbooks only to look up 20 minutes later and not have a clue about what you just read? Muscle Reading is a technique that actively involves you in the reading material so you will comprehend and retain more information.

Improving Your Note-Taking Skills How do you take notes in a college course? How do you know what information is important? Is there a right way to take notes? If you struggle with note taking, this workshop can teach you several notetaking styles to help you improve this study skill.

Overcoming Math Anxiety Does math scare you? This workshop covers basic relaxation techniques, success strategies, study tips and test preparation skills to help you overcome math anxiety. 2


Solving Word Problems Bring your homework problems that are giving you the most trouble. Learn how to read and interpret word problems, change the information into an equation, set up the problem and work to a conclusion.

Studying for a Math Final Afraid of your math final? Learn techniques to help you cope with your fear. Learn strategies for studying and tips to beat the stress of taking a math final.

Studying Styles How do you study? What’s your attitude toward studying? Although there are many factors that contribute to student success, identifying how you approach studying is one of the most critical. Join us in finding your studying style.

Success in Beginning Algebra Designed to help you prepare for, understand and enjoy Beginning Algebra. Sharpen your math skills to aid in solving algebraic equations.

Test-Taking Strategies Do you feel as if you are never prepared for your tests? Learn how to get ready for different kinds of tests, gain strategies to make you a more effective test taker, and learn ways to evaluate the results after you get your tests back.

Top 10 Tips for Student Success Enjoy this “sampler platter” that introduces 10 tips for being a successful student. Topics include test taking, note taking, learning styles, reading, relaxation and more. This workshop is an overview that will get you excited about doing your best and will encourage you to register for topic-specific sessions. Each tip has a one-hour workshop you can attend to improve your skills.

What Should I Do with My Life? Have you heard the quote: “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life”? Learn how personality preferences, interests, skills and values influence your career selection and satisfaction. This workshop provides numerous resources to help you find the career that best fits your style. Set career-related goals and get ready to do lots of self-reflection while having some fun.

Financial Success FAFSA Completion Do you need help completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)? Join us during one of our weekly workshops and get assistance completing your FAFSA or Tri-C Scholarship Application. Advance registration is not required. Visit www.tri-c.edu/FinancialAssistance for the weekly offerings at Tri-C’s four campus locations.

Financial Literacy Tri-C is dedicated to providing you with the tools you need to understand financial planning, budgeting and long-term financial success. Student Financial Aid & Scholarships and community partners provide Financial Literacy workshops throughout the semesters. Smart Money Learn basic money-management skills, strategies for saving money and how to manage your credit and avoid excessive debt.

Student Loan Borrowing and Repayment Responsible student borrowing and loan repayment education is imperative to your future financial security. Make an appointment with a student financial aid adviser to discuss your overall loan indebtedness, learn how to access your student loan profile and look at loan repayment options.

Personal Wellness ADD and College Survival Succeeding in college is not easy. If you have Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), college can seem overwhelming. Learn ways to handle some of the biggest college challenges for those with ADD, how to build your strengths and how to stop self-sabotaging behavior. Register today. Put it on your calendar. If need be, ask a friend to remind you to sign up and attend. Just do it – and get ready to succeed.

Body Image and Eating Disorders Did you know your body image can have a significant impact on your outlook? Throughout history, body image has been determined by various factors, including culture and media. Exposure to mass media (TV, movies, magazines and the internet) is correlated with obesity and a negative body image, which could lead to eating disorders. Discuss and explore how your self-image has been shaped through popular opinion from the 1900s to today.

Conflict Management We all experience conflict in our lives, both personally and professionally. Learn new skills for handling conflict. Discover what type of negotiator you are and how to handle difficult professional and interpersonal situations.

Diversity is in Everyone How many times have you heard the word “diversity” or been asked to define it? Explore different types of diversity and participate in exercises to learn more about your core values and how to promote respect. Come with an open mind, a willingness to respect others, the desire to have pride in yourself and an appreciation of what makes each of us unique. 5

Emotional Intelligence (EQ) 2.0 Define emotional intelligence, or EQ, and understand the personal levels of your EQ. Engage in meaningful discussions and improve your understanding of how to apply EQ skills in your daily life.

First Impressions Count! How do you feel about a professor who walks into class on day one with a big smile and says, “Welcome!”? How do you feel about a person who hardly acknowledges your presence during your first meeting? If either of these actions has impacted you, then you understand the importance of first impressions. Experiment with different ways to make positive first impressions. Whether among friends or in the workplace, first impressions count!

I’m So Mad! Anger is a normal human emotion. When you let anger get out of control, however, it can lead to problems at school, at work and in your personal relationships. What triggers your anger? What are appropriate ways to express anger? Learn insights and the right tools to manage your anger.

I Think My Friend Has a Substance Abuse Problem Have you ever worried about a friend or a loved one because of his or her use of drugs and/or alcohol? Have you ever wondered what you should do about it? You are not alone. There is help available, but where do you start? This workshop highlights the warning signs of someone abusing drugs and alcohol, shows you the difference between abuse and dependence, helps you identify next steps and provides tips on how to care for yourself.

Leadership Exploration Define leadership and recognize your personal leadership style. Identify various leadership styles and the pros and cons of each. Create effective personal vision and mission statements.

Learning Your MBTI Type Do you want to know more about your personality from a psychological point of view? Learn how you look at things, why you 8


make certain decisions and if you get your energy from inside or outside yourself. You will know yourself better and get tips on how to communicate well with others.

Life After Loss You’re expected to grieve a loss, whether it’s the death of a loved one, a broken relationship or an unexpected career change. Learn healthy ways to cope with loss and sudden change in your life. This workshop includes an overview of the stages of grieving, a personal assessment of your life stressors and an action plan for healthy healing.

Making and Evaluating Tough Decisions You make decisions that affect other people’s lives, as well as your own. Sometimes you are left wondering if you did the right thing. Learn some fundamental guidelines for making tough decisions in a complex world.

Managing Time Effectively Gain an understanding of various time-management techniques. Apply strategies for conquering procrastination.

Mapping Your Journey Through Goal Setting If you have no plans, there will be no action. If there is no action, there can be no success. This workshop helps you visualize your journey by examining goals, objectives and motivations that affect your future plans.

Recognizing and Managing Stress We all have stress in our lives, and at times, it can become debilitating. Learn how to recognize your stress and discover self-talk and relaxation training techniques to manage your stress and increase your health and happiness.

Recognizing Healthy Relationships What makes a relationship healthy? When should you worry about a relationship being unhealthy? Explore your relationships and identify what to continue and what to change. Effective communication, balance and other areas will be explored, as well as how to help a friend who may be involved in an unhealthy relationship.

Setting S.M.A.R.T. Goals Set smart short- and long-term goals. Create effective group mission statements.

Take Care of Yourself You must take care of yourself first before you take care of others. Easier said than done, right? This workshop highlights the need for balance across the Seven Dimensions of Wellness: physical, social, spiritual, intellectual, emotional, environmental and occupational. Take time to learn how to make your body, mind and spirit healthier.

Tri-C Information My Academic Plan (MAP) Are you a new student at Tri-C? Do you know the requirements for your program? My Academic Plan (MAP) is a new tool to help you and your counselor plan your program of study and see what classes you must take in order to graduate on time.

Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Success Seminars SAP Success Seminars are a great way to help you learn to maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress – the requirements for receiving and maintaining eligibility for financial aid. Staying Safe on Campus Gain skills and awareness of how to handle an active shooter situation. The main objective of A.L.I.C.E. (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate) is to provide you with options that increase your chance of survival during an Active Shooter emergency.

“Transferology”– Web-Based Transfer Information Learn how to obtain accurate information about how courses transfer and how to apply for degree programs at public or private institutions in Ohio through Transferology, a free, web-based resource.

Transferring to a Four-Year College Do you understand the difference between “transferability” and “applicability”? What courses should you take? This workshop focuses on what you need to know if you plan to transfer to a four-year college or university.

Using DegreeWorks (New Degree Auditing System) Learn how to use DegreeWorks to determine what courses you need to complete your degree or certificate at Tri-C.

Workforce Preparation Ace That Interview Review general guidelines to improve interviewing skills and gain behind-the-scenes insight into the interview process. Learn about the different types of interviews, discover how to overcome obstacles and

avoid common interview mistakes. Practice your interviewing skills and receive valuable feedback about your strengths and weaknesses. Topics include basic guidelines, traditional questions, behavioralbased questions and telephone interviews.

Business Etiquette Understand the basics of workplace, technology and dining etiquette to assist you in developing and maintaining a successful career.

Getting Started with LinkedIn Gain an understanding of how using LinkedIn can assist in your job search efforts while learning how to create your profile and establish your initial contacts.

Leveraging LinkedIn Explore Groups, Company Information, reaching out to Contacts and searching for jobs to maximize your efforts on LinkedIn.

Meeting Management Plan for productive meetings and accomplish team goals.

New Job: Tips for Success Get practical tips on establishing yourself in a new position to ensure maximum success as you continue your employment journey.

Resumes That Get Results Understand the purpose, review the general guidelines and learn how to develop a resume that will get results. You will have an opportunity to put together the initial building blocks of your resume, including a summary, employment history, job responsibilities and accomplishments.

Resumes That Get Results (Online) Complete this online course at a time that is convenient for you, between the first and 21st of every month. Understand the purpose, review the general guidelines and learn how to develop a resume that will get results. Learn how to assemble the initial building blocks of your

Selecting a Career Path That’s Right for You Whether you are choosing a career for the first time or considering a career change, this workshop can help. Using a paper-and-pencil survey, we will match your personality to various career options. Learn how to tap into local resources to help ensure that the career path you have chosen is right for you.

Your Networking Plan Networking is one of the key components of a successful job search, yet one that is often overlooked. Become familiar with simple networking tools and other resources to help you plan your search and promote yourself to get the job you want.
