Facilities in Art and Design Treforest Campus From a traditional darkroom to a fully equipped lighting studio and 3D workshop, sudents studying art and design will get the opportunity to work in dedicated studio spaces allowing them to produce a high standard of work. The FAD course occupies purposely refurbished accommodation at the main University campus in Treforest. This comprises of eight dedicated studios, photographic darkrooms and lighting studio. In addition, there are Apple equipped studios with industry standard software, 3D workshop, kiln and glaze room, plaster room, printmaking studio with a laser cutter and 3D printer. Caerleon Campus The excellent on-campus facilities at Caerleon include a dedicated Foundation Art and Design computer suite with Macintosh computers and is open 24 hours a day. In addition, there are four large studios, a printroom, a wood/ metal/plastics workshop and a stop-animation room. Students will also have access to high quality A2 printers and industry standard photography studios, as well as the largest student darkroom in the UK.
This one-year Foundation Art and Design course, offered at both the Treforest and Caerleon Campuses, is ideal for aspiring artists and designers who wish to develop their creative talents and artistic skill. The course is an invaluable opportunity to explore an array of art and design disciplines and practices, allowing you to progressively build essential skills before pursuing your specialist career and deciding what degree course to study. A Foundation Diploma is the preferred route of entry for many degree courses in art and design, offering a range of experience and an intensity and diversity of training that you may not have experienced in your school. You may also be asked to send a portfolio of your work electronically.
Course Fees International students are required to pay a fee of £6,950 for this one year course. Additional costs include a studio fee of £150. This fee covers paper/materials for the initial exploratory stage and the end of year show. It also includes a compulsory educational visit. Students will have the opportunity to participate in an optional overseas trip. (Additional costs will apply)
