TRAVELLING TO LIVERPOOL FROM NORTHERN IRELAND
Liverpool is easily accessible, whether you choose to fly or take the ferry.
There are numerous daily and weekly flights departing from both Belfast City and Belfast International Airports, and City of Derry Airport - we are only a 30-minute flight away.
When you land at Liverpool John Lennon Airport you can jump on a bus outside the airport terminal. This takes you directly to the city centre in just 20 minutes. Visit the airport website for further details: liverpoolairport.com
If you arrive by ferry, you will disembark at Birkenhead Ferry Port (Twelve Quays Ferry Terminal, Birkenhead CH41 1FE) which is on the Wirral peninsula. If you are travelling by car it will then take just 10 minutes to reach Liverpool city centre from Birkenhead, travelling through either one of the two Mersey tunnels. If you are a foot passenger, Hamilton Square railway station is a 15 minute walk away from the ferry terminal, allowing you to complete your journey to Liverpool city centre in just 5 minutes by train. Taxis are also widely available.
Moving away from home to study is an adventure. It’s an opportunity to gain experience, independence and a new perspective - but don’t just take our word for it!
Throughout this handbook you will meet some of our students from Northern Ireland who have made LJMU their home.
Some of them also appear in this video, which we recommend you watch as they talk about their experiences so far at LJMU, and what it is like to move away from home to study.

NORTHERN IRELAND APPLICANT DAY
BELFAST, SATURDAY 4 MARCH 2023
I chose LJMU after I attended the Applicant Day in Belfast, and found that it was really homely and felt a friendly atmosphere coming from the staff and students I spoke to there. I also chose LJMU as it has more students from Northern Ireland than any other university so it was going to be a home from home for me.
Andrew from County Down BSc (Hons) Computer Science
We appreciate that travelling to one of our Applicant Days in Liverpool is not always feasible, so we offer you the chance to attend an event closer to home.
We would love for you to find out why we are consistently the #1 university in Great Britain for Northern Irish students, and invite you to attend our Applicant Day in Belfast, designed exclusively for you.
Our Belfast Applicant Day offers you a fantastic opportunity to discuss your chosen course with our academic staff, learn more about disability support, student funding, our bursaries and scholarships, chat with some of our current Northern Irish students and discover more about where you will be living, from our expert student accommodation advisors.
You will also meet our Student Global Champions who have studied or participated in our overseas programmes previously, and colleagues from Student Futures will be on hand to discuss careers, employability and start-up support available to you whilst studying at LJMU, and beyond graduation.

Can I attend an Applicant Day in Liverpool as well as the event in Belfast?
Yes, you are welcome to attend both Applicant Days
–
What if my course requires an interview or audition?
!
You’ll need your LJMU or UCAS ID to log in.
Applicants who are invited to an audition or interview will still be required to attend their interview or audition before an offer is made. Log on to the Applicant Hub to book your preferred date and time. However, you are still very welcome to attend the Belfast Applicant Day before your interview or audition takes place, as this event will still be useful in terms of learning about your course, the University and student life.
–
Can I bring guests?
Yes, please do, although we advise no more than two guests where possible.
*There will be experienced staff and students on hand to answer any questions you may have in an informal setting, however we cannot guarantee an academic member of staff for every programme.
The effort LJMU puts in to organising an event in Northern Ireland, simply shows their commitment and dedication to the students, which is really appreciated. Thank you!
RESULTS DAY AND CONFIRMATION
A Level results are released on 17 August. Providing you’ve selected LJMU as your conditional firm choice and you meet all the conditions of your offer, you will automatically be accepted onto your course at the university. Even if you haven’t quite met the requirements, LJMU may still accept you - please see UCAS Track for details on the day or contact our confirmation hotline.
Following confirmation of your place, we will send you your starter pack. This will provide details on the university’s registration process and our student charter.
STARTING AT LJMU
You will complete your student registration online before you arrive at the university for enrolment and start your induction programme. Full details will be included in your LJMU starter pack.
Your first week at LJMU will be packed full of things to do and places to see. You will receive an invitation to attend a welcome event where you will be able to find out more about university services, what’s happening in the city and meet other new students.
As a new student you will be expected to complete an induction programme prior to the official start of the academic year. Induction is your opportunity to get to know your academic team, meet your personal tutor and start to make friends with people on your course. Your starter pack will give you more details on what to expect and when.
John Moores Students’ Union (JMSU, see page 32) also organise a programme of activities to help you settle into university life and find out more about Liverpool’s exciting student scene. These events usually start during the official moving in weekend (tenancies start on the 16 September 2023) and continue until week one of semester one. Look out for updates from JMSU after confirmation.
LJMU was definitely the right decision for me and this course was too. Liverpool is so sociologically diverse which makes studying this course feel so much more ‘real’ rather than all theory or textbook work.

LIVERPOOL RECOMMENDED
Laura from Belfast, BA (Hons) History
1 Visit the Albert Dock. With so many amazing restaurants, cafes and bars you will never be short of somewhere to grab a bite to eat once you have looked round the Tate Liverpool, Museum of Liverpool and International Slavery and Maritime Museum. There is just no way you can live in Liverpool without learning about its diverse history. Go to one of the many parks just outside the city centre. Whether it be Calderstones Park with its beautiful walled garden or Grade I listed Sefton Park with its incredible palm house, there are so many amazing green spaces to clear your mind. Take the ferry across the Mersey. Given a dazzling makeover in 2015 for the Liverpool Biennial by British pop artist Sir Peter Blake, the iconic ship takes you on a whistle-stop tour across the North Wirral coastline. Check out the food-hall at Woodside Ferry Terminal for dining and drinks alongside unrivaled views of the Liverpool waterfront.
FOOD AND DRINK
Liverpool certainly has it all when it comes to food and drink. From specialist shops selling halal and kosher foods to the oldest Chinatown in Europe, you could munch your way through a whole world of cuisine and never have to eat the same dish twice! Home to cool cafés, world food supermarkets and excellent eateries to suit every taste and budget – you’re spoilt for choice. You can also take your pick of our many pubs, nightclubs, alcohol-free bars and coffee shops, where you can enjoy great conversation, music and much more.
MUSIC
As the ‘world capital of pop’* and the birthplace of The Beatles, it comes as no surprise that a great music scene exists in this city. Every night of the week, every week of the year, there’s music to be heard all around Liverpool. Discover the city’s up-and-coming bands in live venues like LEAF and 24 Kitchen Street or find your favourite acts at Liverpool’s O2 Academy, Liverpool Guild of Students or Liverpool Olympia. There’s something to suit every taste, whether your playlists are full of hip-hop, electronic, jazz or rock’n’roll.
ARTS AND CULTURE
SPORT
Whilst the city is known for its Premiere League pedigree, Liverpool is much more than the rivalry between red and blue. The city region is home to three football clubs, Liverpool FC, Everton FC and Tranmere Rovers, a top rugby league team, two horse racing tracks and is the golfing capital of England – boasting more than 40 courses, seven of which are leading championship venues. If watersports are your thing we have two watersports centres where you can get involved with rowing, surfing, windsailing and more. Skaters are spoiled for choice too with the street art covered skate park in Baltic Triangle, the glow in the dark ramp in Everton Park and the place all Liverpool skaters learned their tricks, Rampworx, just a bus ride away from the City Centre.
Liverpool has a buzzing festival scene: Sound City, Africa Oyé, Homotopia, Brazilica, Liverpool International Music Festival (LIMF) and Positive Vibration Reggae Festival, and let’s not forget the city will be giving Eurovision delegates a typical warm Scouse welcome as we host the Song Contest in 2023.
We have amazing festivals and events every year, that celebrate our diverse communities and our creative souls. The Liverpool Irish Festival, Liverpool Arab Arts Festival, DaDaFest and Liverpool Pride to name a few. Light Night Liverpool is an awesome city takeover offering breathtaking light shows, art installations and street performances, with latenight opening of our museums and galleries. World-renowned classic and contemporary art collections find their homes at the Walker Art Gallery, Tate Liverpool, Open Eye Gallery, FACT, Bluecoat and the Liverpool Biennial.
OUTDOOR SPACES
Whether you’re a wildlife watcher, a bit of a rambler, or are more likely to be found lounging on a lawn, Liverpool’s outdoor offering has it all.
SHOPPING
We are all shopping on a budget, but no matter if yours is large or small, you’ll find what you are looking for in Liverpool. From the high street stores and designer outlets in Liverpool One and Met Quarter, to the independent boutiques on Bold Street or markets in the Baltic Triangle, Liverpool is the place to go shopping. Cool and quirky vintage stores are the hidden gems of the city’s student areas.
With 10 listed parks and cemeteries, more than any other UK city outside of London, parks and waterfront walks in Liverpool are firm favorites. Sefton Park, Festival Gardens, Otterspool Promenade, Princes Park, Calderstones Park and Greenbank all offer perfect outdoor space within easy reach of the City Centre.
Head further north to explore the beaches at Crosby, Formby and Southport, or get acquainted with the animals at Chester Zoo and Knowsley Safari Park.

I have always strived for the thrill of motorsport. Coming to LJMU has facilitated me immensely in achieving this goal through its Formula Student team, and I am now in my fourth year with the team and second year as Team Manager. This has been a fantastic opportunity where I have been able to apply what is taught in lectures to a year-long live project. I have made lifelong friends and strongly encourage all students to get involved.

YOUR ESSENTIAL GUIDE TO FEES AND FUNDING
@ moneyadvice@ljmu.ac.uk @LJMUSaw
We want you to start your university experience with LJMU as you mean to go on: equipped with all the information you need and fully supported. That’s why our dedicated team of friendly, expert advisers have put together essential guidance relating to student funding.
We have covered the key facts and figures but if you have any questions, please just ask.
TUITION FEES AND LOANS
You will be charged a tuition fee for each year of your course
Tuition fees for 2023/24 have been confirmed as £9,250 per year. This fee is subject to an annual inflationary increase.
There is no need to pay your tuition fees up front as eligible students can apply for a tuition fee loan for each year of their course. This loan is not means tested which means your household income will not affect your eligibility.
Your tuition fee loan will cover all of your tuition fee costs and will be paid direct to LJMU. See page 50 for information on loan repayments.
NORTHERN IRELAND APPLICANTS
If your permanent home is in Northern Ireland and you want to study at LJMU (or another English university) you will be eligible to apply for:
n Tuition fee loan which will cover the full cost of your tuition fees
n Maintenance loan up to £6,776* a year
n Maintenance grant up to £3,475 a year
If you take out a student loan, your repayments will begin after you have left LJMU and start earning more than £19,390.
See studentfinanceni.co.uk for more information.
EU APPLICANTS
From the 2021/22 academic year, EU, EEA and Swiss nationals and their family members will no longer be eligible for home fee status or student finance. If you would like to discuss you individual circumstances then get in touch with the Student Money Advice Team at LJMU. For more information see www.gov.uk/studentfinance
All figures in this booklet relate to the 2022/23 academic year unless otherwise stated as figures for 2023/24 were unavailable at the time of printing.
The amount of funding you will receive for your living costs varies depending on where in the UK you normally live, your household income and if you are living in your parental home or elsewhere while studying.
STUDENT LOANS FOR LIVING COSTS (MAINTENANCE LOAN)
In addition to a tuition fee loan, you can also apply for money to help towards your living costs. The amount you will be eligible to receive depends on a number of factors such as your household income and where you live during term time. As you will see in the table below, you may be entitled to both the Maintenance Loan in addition to the non-repayable Maintenance Grant.
n In 2022/23 the maximum amount you will be eligible to receive while studying at LJMU is £6,428. You may also qualify for the £500 per year LJMU bursary if your household income is £25,000 per year, or less.
moneyadvice@ljmu.ac.uk 0151 231 3153/3154
Please only use this information as a guide, more detailed information is available here: studentfinanceni.co.uk
COURSES STARTING IN JANUARY
If your course starts in January 2024 you can also apply for your funding from around March 2023 onwards (or as soon as you know what course you are going to study.) Though you will be starting the course in 2024, this is still classed as the 2023/24 year of study by student finance. Please be sure to pick the January start option of your course from the drop down menu when you apply.
n Unlike the tuition fee loan which is paid direct to LJMU, this money will be paid into your bank account. It’s paid in three installments and it’s up to you how it is spent – and also how you budget!
You will pay for your accommodation on dates that coincide with your student maintenance payments, making it easier for you to plan your budget
TIP: Once you have paid your rent, work out how many weeks until your next loan and grant payment and then you will know approximately how much per week you have to live off.
APPLYING FOR YOUR STUDENT FUNDING
Apply online studentfinanceni.co.uk from March 2023 if you are starting a course in September 2023
LOAN REPAYMENTS
Any loans you take out to cover your tuition fees or living costs will be added together into a single loan account. This means that when you start paying back your student loans, you will only make one affordable monthly payment.
Your repayment amount is always based on a percentage of your salary, not how much you have borrowed.
If your income is over £19,390* your employer will start taking repayments from your salary just like tax and national insurance, and after 25 years any money still owed is written off.
The table opposite will give you an idea of what your repayments might look like once you have left university and you’re earning over £19,390.*
n If your income falls below the repayment threshold (e.g. if you go travelling) your loan repayments will automatically stop
n After 25 years anything you owe on your student loans is written off
OPENING A STUDENT BANK ACCOUNT
Shop around for the best bank account for you and, if this is a bank near home, make sure you know how to access the account remotely. It is a good idea to set up online banking so you are in control of your money while you are at university. Make sure you do this before you move away to start your course.
Most students say that the interest free overdraft is the most useful thing about their student bank account. There may be times in the year you need this. You can pay it back over the summer if you are working and then use it again in years two and three if you need to.
You will normally need to download your acceptance letter from UCAS after confirmation in order to open a student account with the bank.
HAVE YOU STUDIED BEFORE
If you have not studied at university before, student funding is generally available for the length of your course, plus an additional year (if required). Additional funding may be available for students that have had to leave a course due to health problems or for other personal reasons.
It is really important that you seek advice if you have studied previously. We can clarify exactly how your prior study will impact on your future entitlement and advise you on what steps to take to maximise any funding available.
LJMU BURSARY
LJMU bursaries are automatically paid to eligible students every year of your course – you do not need to apply. The annual LJMU bursary is currently £500.
LJMU bursaries are additional, free money that you don’t have to pay back. How you spend it is up to you.
To qualify you must meet the residence requirements for student funding (grants and loans) and have a household income of £25,000/year or less. You must also be paying the annual maximum university tuition fee which is £9,250 for 2023/24.
STUDENT SUPPORT FUND
Sometimes despite your best efforts you can find yourself in financial difficulty. This could be due to a delay in funding or unforeseen circumstances. LJMU’s Student Support Fund is available to students who find themselves in such a position.
Speak to us in confidence: moneyadvice@ljmu.ac.uk | 0151 231 3153/3154
At LJMU this relates to applicants for Nursing (Adult, Child, Mental Health), Midwifery and Paramedic Science programmes. This financial support is in addition to your funding from Student Finance NI.
n A training grant of £5,000 per year: this grant is not means tested and all eligible students will receive this grant
n Parental support of £2,000 per year: this grant is not means tested. However, to be eligible to apply you have at least one dependent child under 15 years, or under 17 years if registered with special educational needs
n A specialist subject payment of £1,000 per year: this is for students studying on courses where the government have shortages. At LJMU this is currently mental health nursing
n Travel and dual accommodation: this is to help with additional costs of traveling to and remaining in placement
n Exceptional hardship fund: this is for students who find themselves in exceptional hardship
Payments will be made to eligible students over the year with the first payment being made in November (for autumn start courses).

DISABLED STUDENTS ALLOWANCE (DSA) STUDENTS WITH DEPENDANTS
If you declare a disability or medical condition to LJMU, you can access specialist support and guidance to assist you during your studies. This support can include, exam and study support, mental health support, ASC support, library support, mobility support and more. Please contact us for further information if you are unsure you are eligible or do not know what support you will need.
The Disabled Student Allowance (DSA) is designed to help meet the extra course costs students can face as a direct result of a disability, ongoing health condition, mental health condition or Specific Learning Difficulty. DSA is paid on top of the standard student finance package and does not have to be paid back. You should apply for DSA when you apply for your student funding - please don’t wait. Don’t worry if you’re not 100% certain which course you will be studying, as just like your application for student finance it is possible to update your DSA application at a later date.
The Disability Advice Team at LJMU can help with all aspects of applying for DSA so please feel free to contact us at any point during the application process for help or advice.
If you have either an adult who is financially dependent on you or dependant children, you can apply for additional funding including a grant for childcare.
In addition, if you have an underlying eligibility for benefits (such as a lone parent) you can receive a higher rate of maintenance loan for living costs.
A Childcare Grant will cover up to 85% of approved or accredited childcare in both term time and holidays.
The Adult Dependants’ Grant is for students with a dependant partner and Parents Learning Allowance is a grant for those with children.
All grants are means tested on your household income. For more information please contact us.

SUPPORT FOR CARE LEAVERS AND STUDENTS ESTRANGED FROM THEIR FAMILIES
In 1957 John Lennon joined LJMU’s School of Art and Design, and it was to provide the springboard for so many influential aspects of his life: it was where he met Stuart Sutcliffe and would be visited by Paul McCartney.
In recognition of the influence the University played in his life, and thanks to the generous support of Yoko Ono, LJMU has set up the John Lennon Imagine Awards to help students who have either been in local authority care or who are estranged from their parents.
Eligible students receive a cash bursary of up to £1000 per year of their course, in addition to any funding awarded by your Leaving Care team.
We also have a dedicated member of staff here to support students and offer advice on anything from university life and budgeting to student accommodation – and everything in between.
LJMU was awarded the NNECL Quality Mark in Spring 2022 in recognition of the enhanced support we offer care experienced students throughout their time at the University, the first University to do so since it’s launch in 2021.
The John Lennon Imagine Awards provide extra support for young people who perhaps need it most. I am delighted to have been able to set up these awards in John’s name… he genuinely would have wanted to have helped these students achieve their personal goals.
Yoko OnoYOUNG ADULT CARERS
LJMU is committed to supporting young adult carers and currently works in partnership with Barnardos Young Adult Carers Service in Liverpool. Our dedicated member of staff for young adult carers can provide you with further information and advise you on what support is available.
SCHOLARSHIPS
We believe everyone is good at something, and want
Every year we award a range of scholarships to support students from a range of backgrounds. These pages give you an introduction of what scholarships you can apply for if you study at the Liverpool John Moores University.
Whether it’s a new laptop, help with accommodation costs or learning how to drive – how you spend your scholarship money is up to you. We don’t just award our scholarships to straight A students either (though academic ability is important); we are also interested in awarding scholarships to students who can show us that they are hardworking, passionate about something and a success at what they do. So what are you waiting for?
ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP
Rewards academic excellence (at least 3 A grades at A2 or equivalent – 144 UCAS points) 85 awards available, £1,000 per year for the duration of your course.
SIR BERT MASSIE SCHOLARSHIP
Recognising Sir Bert Massie, national disability rights champion and former student of LJMU. We are looking to award an outstanding disabled student who has campaigned or championed inclusion in some way.
COMMUNITY EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP
For participation in areas such as volunteering, sports, the arts or citizenship; a maximum of 85 awards of £1,000 per year for the duration of your course.
OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIP
This is a new scholarship to add to our current portfolio. The aim of the Opportunity Scholarship is to enhance diversity, supporting access, participation and outcomes of students from diverse ethnic backgrounds who come to LJMU. It would be expected that applicants have participated fully in one of LJMU’s sustained outreach programmes to be eligible and applicants must meet the Black and Asian Minority Ethnic criteria to apply.
VICE-CHANCELLOR’S SCHOLARSHIP
The Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship has been introduced to recognise the diverse and inspiring nature of the LJMU student community. These high profile scholarships have been developed to reward the success of students that may have had a different and sometimes longer path into Higher Education or have overcome adversity in some way. So, if you are a care leaver, a young adult carer, disabled, (however, see Sir Bert Massie Scholarship), BAME or a mature student, we would love to hear from you.
Apply online via the Applicant Hub ljmu.ac.uk/applicant
Closing Date 29 September 2023
Renewal of scholarships is subject to satisfactory academic progress.
Receiving the Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship was a huge honour and has really helped me out whilst in university. It’s allowed me to work harder at my studies, as well as help fund travel for my practical placements studying Paramedic Science.Chris

MAYA FROM BELFAST
Accommodation Officer
For me, living in student accommodation is a great way to move out for the first time and have your first real taste of independence. All your bills are included, which takes away the hassle, plus you get to meet so many people from different courses and backgrounds. I love the hustle and bustle of being in the city centre; there is always something to do on your doorstep!
My advice for new students:
1
All of our modern student accommodation is within easy walking distance of our teaching buildings
24-hour on-site staff
Rents range from £113/ week for a standard en-suite room and up to £175/week for a deluxe en-suite room
Be friendly with your flat mates and share certain foods, bread, salt, etc. so you don’t let food go to waste.
Rents include all fuel costs, WiFi connections and basic contents insurance

2 3
Clean as you go - it keeps mess to a minimum and makes your job easier.
Don’t suffer in silence - if you are struggling with anything talk to someone. The staff on reception or our friendly Student Living Assistants are there to help.
MATURE STUDENTS
The majority of students entering accommodation come to university straight from school or college and are under 21. If you prefer a quieter study environment, rooms are reserved for older students at a number of our city centre locations.
If you do have any particular requests, such as living in a flat with older students, please indicate this on your accommodation request form. Every effort will be made to meet your needs but this cannot be guaranteed in all cases. If you would prefer to live in a private house or flat, contact Liverpool Student Homes (LSH) liverpoolstudenthomes.org/ accommodation.
HEALTHCARE STUDENTS
Nursing, midwifery and paramedic students have different schedules due to placement work, often getting up when other students are going to bed! For this reason we strongly recommend healthcare students choose Atlantic Point, Glassworks, Marybone 1 or Marybone 3 and share their flat with students on similar courses.
Limited parking is available for students at Atlantic Point.
Students requiring accommodation for courses commencing in January 2024 should check ljmu.ac.uk/ accommodation from June 2023 onwards to see what options are available.
DISABLED STUDENTS
Accommodation facilities for students with disabilities are constantly improving and LJMU is committed to ensure a high standard of living for all students, whatever your needs. If you require accommodation with particular adaptations it is important that you inform us as soon as possible so that the necessary arrangements can be made. We can also arrange for you to visit our accommodation to check that it will meet your needs.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW WHEN
BOOKING
YOUR STUDENT ACCOMMODATION
CONTRACTS
Accommodation contracts are known as ‘tenancy agreements’ or ‘tenancies’ and are legally binding for the full period once signed. So unless there are exceptional grounds for the tenancy to be cancelled, you are liable for rent until the end of the contract or until a replacement is found.
Tenancies commence on Saturday 16 September 2023 and finish 42 weeks later on Friday 7 July 2024.
Induction week for new students starts on 18 September and teaching begins on Monday 25 September 2023.
It is important to note that all tenancies cover the full academic year. If your course does not match the standard academic year – for example Nursing or Midwifery – you will be given a full calendar year tenancy as standard.
Don’t forget that you don’t have to move out over the Christmas and Easter breaks, the room is yours for the duration of your contract. You can also stay on after your first year in all cases.
MONEY MATTERS
Rent is paid in three equal instalments that coincide with your student funding payments if you are a UK student, who can provide a guarantor*, so it is important that you apply for your student funding as soon as possible – don’t put this off!
It is a good idea to try and work out your budget at this stage and choose your accommodation according to what you can afford.
*Your guarantor will most likely be a parent or guardian, and they must agree to act in this capacity
ACCOMMODATION FOR MOUNT PLEASANT STUDENTS
ACCOMMODATION FOR CITY CAMPUS STUDENTS
The following accommodation options are ideal for students undertaking courses in these Faculties.
St Luke’s View is an excellent, modern option for students located in the Mount Pleasant campus, which opened at the start of the 2017/18 academic year.
Capital Gate and and Albert Court are two good value en-suite options which are suitable for students at either main campus.
Capital Gate underwent a full redesign and refurbishment and it reopened in summer 2021. Many rooms at Albert Court were upgraded in summer 2022 and now feature small double beds.
Grand Central is the liveliest of all the accommodation options. The vast majority of bedrooms feature private en-suite bathrooms but a few bedrooms are available in flats with shared bathrooms at a lower cost.
Copperas House is the very newest option available as it opened in summer 2021. It is well located close to the new Student Life Building and is suitable for students at either campus.
Horizon Heights and Hardman House are two of the newest options in this campus and both opened for the frst time in August 2019. All rooms feature en-suite bathrooms
Grenville Street and The Arch are two modern, good value options, located with easy access to the trendy Ropewalks area and the shops and amenities of Liverpool One. Bedrooms in both halls are larger than in many others within this campus and hence represent excellent value.
Agnes Jones House and St Andrew’s Gardens are excellent choices for students seeking good value accommodation as they feature flats with shared bathrooms.
See map at the back of this handbook for accommodation locations.
The following accommodation options are ideal for students undertaking courses in these Faculties. All sites are located within the City Campus and only a short walk from the city centre.
Marybone is a large three phase complex and is ideally located adjacent to the Avril Robarts Library and the Tithebarn Street building. Marybone 1 features fats with shared bathrooms and double beds at very reasonable weekly rents. Marybone 2 and 3 are almost identical and fully en-suite.
Glassworks and Byrom Point are two newer accommodation sites located within the City campus and are both fully en-suite. Both sites have a gym, common room and study area.
Atlantic Point is located opposite the Byrom Street teaching buildings and is one of the largest sites offered to new students. It also has a limited number of parking spaces.
Moorfield is located directly across the road from the Avril Robarts Library and offers good value en-suite rooms and a very limited number of parking spaces.
Students based in the City Campus can also choose accommodation based in the centre of the city such as Grand Central, Horizon Heights, Capital Gate, Copperas House or Albert Court.
See map at the back of this handbook for accommodation locations.
The best thing about student accommodation is the social aspect of living with other students who are in similar positions to you - studying and living away from home. I found this very comforting and reassuring.

Student support at LJMU has been really helpful. Something that feels like a big problem really isn’t when you sit down and talk it through. The staff make you feel so comfortable and really listen, and you can honestly talk to them about anything, they are more than happy to spend the time talking to you.
