Foundation Drawing Intensive “9 squares” Self Portrait The current project in Foundation Drawing Intensive is “9 squares”. Students will create a series of nine squares to form a symbolic self portrait:

3 squares that depict some aspect of your physical self (your eye, hand etc….from direct observation)

3 squares of symbols/ things that represent something about you or your interests.

3 squares that represent things about you that are not necessarily as visible (emotion or personality trait etc..) These can be abstract designs that symbolize the emotion or personality trait you have chosen.

Each square should be a minimum of 4”x 4” and completed with excellent composition, creativity and craftsmanship. They can be done on paper or cardboard and in any formation. Squares done on corrugated cardboard can be strung together with wire or glued to form a sculpture as an additional option. Media is open to drawing, painting and/or collage.
