Hello, my name is Laura Maschino, and I am a senior studying Interior Design at Iowa State University with a minor in Sustainability. My enthusiasm and love for art, design, culture, history, and nature are reflected in the following works. I am extremely excited to begin my professional career in such a compelling industry.

R IV E R V IEW T ER R A C E fr an k l loyd wr i ght r ehabilitated r estaurant R ev it, Lu mion, Enscape ORGA N IC, MOD ER N, AB STR ACT The Taliesin Visitor Center seeks a rehabilitation which suites modern needs, reflects current styles, and rejuvenates Wrights intentions as a cultural center. Design motifs, colors, and materials will be heavily influenced by Wright’s prior work, the Wisconsin landscape, and the Taliesin estate itself. The space will highlight and draw reference to some of Wright’s work and impressive Japanese and Chinese woodblock collections through interesting murals and furniture forms. Reintroducing the outdoor terrace, utilizing curved forms, and highlighting the view towards the river will inject organic architecture into the otherwise inorganic space. My group member, Rachel Renk, designed, drafted, and rendered the lounge space and bar. Preliminary research, concept development, and floor plan design were finalized collaboratively.

Inspired by the International Style and Mid-Century Modern, Mosaic will include clean lines and simply shaped furniture to cater to the diverse user group and emphasize universally enjoyed art and nature. The following pages highlight the long-term care wing, showcasing a design which includes a variety of wayfinding tools, contained outdoor access, and a customizable resident room. My group members Jamilla Calderon and Natalie Biggs designed the Independent and Assisted Living wings, which are represented in diagrams on page twelve.

F F &E SE LE CT I ON S Clean lines, neutral colors, and subtle pops of color will act as a palatable scheme which fits aesthetics of people from all backg rounds. Mid centur y fur niture, designed with inclusivity in mind, fits within the company mindset.

WAYFINDING ENTRANCE Color, texture, and signage which showcases diverse languages act as important wayfinding tools in a center focused on the care dementia patients and long-term care residents. Feature rooms, like the dining room shown, are unique, evenly dispersed, and include inclusive, universal signage, acting as the perfect landmark. A bright, abstract mosaic motif reinforce the company’s brand identity seamlessly.

G U C CI DR A MA lu xu r y r etai l sto r e R ev it, E n scape, Photoshop DRA MA , WHIMSY, THEATR ICAL Inspired by dramatic and atmospheric theatre art, the Gucci store in Rome, Italy draws from the changing set displays, the on-stage and off-stage concept, and common theatre elements. A strong divide between the on-stage Gucci shopper and the off-stage employee ensures a balanced atmosphere, as if it were a live play. Customers may enjoy live performance art or fashion shows between transition spaces. Reinforcing the nod to theatre takes shape in draping curtains, spotlights, and platforms. Customers may fully immerse in a Gucci set. Kayla Ropp, my group member, collaborated on space programming, floor plan development, and research supporting evidence based design. Her focus was on the construction documents which are not represented.

C USTOM FL OORING A custom designed marble inlay tile mimics the repeated forms of Gucci’s monograms, a double GG. The personalized pattern is extravagent, luxurious, and true to the brand. Clothing, shopping bags, and wallpaper may pull from the new motif.

Unexpected pops of color, unique furniture selections, and a variety of entertainment spaces allows his second home to reflect his personality while fitting his expected needs. His love for fashion, music, and art influence programming in the floor plan and wall space. This was an independent project where expectations were to select and research a celebrity client of our choice and develop a floor plan with presentation drawings based on our research findings.

Each will feel represented, as their country’s flag shows across the Main Entrance screen. Technology functions as an innovative yet inclusive solution, and a blended balance with access to beautiful views and organic materials and textures create a place which is conducive to collaboration, comfort, and relaxation. Aimee Walker and Kayla Ropp, my teammates, helped determine the concept, space programming, and FF&E selections. Each member was tasked to design an entire floor independently on the three leveled building. I developed the first floor and constructed all of its documents.

DEEP ROOTS tw o -day d esi gn char r ette with CALS Colleg e R ev it, E n scape, Photoshop C OMMUN IT Y , B ACKGR OUND , L IFE Iowa State’s Student Innovation Center lacks identity and warmth. The College of Agriculture and Life Science has two rooms within the building, seeking a remodel of the spaces to reflect their student’s unique character. A large feature wall with representation of abstracted motifs from Iowa’s landscape, warm natural materials, and layered texture and lighting will create spaces which are comfortable yet reflect the importance of modern agriculture. Like roots, these spaces will include elements of community/connection, background, and life. For the two-day challenge, each team was a collaboration between interior and graphic design students and members of the CALS program. Norah Larson assisted in interior selections, Marwa Elkashif lead graphic design, and Maeve Clearly and Jenna Errthum were CALS students who helped develop the concept and prepare presentation materials.

Casual seating, a large projector screen, and unique display space provide comfort and flexibility to the CALS students. Angled shelving allows for two display sides, one facing the hallway, and the other facing into the room.

The meeting space is perfectly sized for small classes and group study sessions. Tables on coasters allow for a variety of room layouts and functions. A large abstracted root form light centers the space and creates interest for those walk-

Color, texture, and signage which showcases diverse languages act as important wayfinding tools in a center focused on the care dementia patients and long-term care residents. Feature rooms, like the dining room shown, are unique, evenly dispersed, and include inclusive, universal signage, acting as the perfect landmark. A bright, abstract mosaic motif reinforce the company’s brand identity seamlessly.
