Theorical Basis and Introduction Theorical basis: Place- Identity Theory: Place identity "a core concept in the field of environmental psychology which proposes that identities form in relation to environments." I might investigate it from the material's perspective, which is the relationship between the physical environment and place identity and its influence on people.

Ground Pattern of Square
Impressive Ground Pattern - The different color and texture: Square dark slabs comprise the main color of the ground (Dark grey) which gives prominence to light grey pattern; flat concrete slabs and local stone with more raised texture.
Hallgrimurfetursson Overview
- The formal pattern support the strong identity of the landscape, which firstly is a memorial of poet Hallgrimurfetursson and a church.
Natural context and Manmade material Getting shape from nature. - The build elements share the same form with the natural shape of Basalt column and the construction is comprised by several columns, which reflects the Icelandic volcanic landscape. Material: Concrete-robust, easy to found - Concrete with basalt texture and offwhite color gives church a sacred feeling at religious level. Streamlined facade strengthen the artistic feeling of landscape creates a solemn and respectful atmosphere.

Emphasis- Streamline Shape
- Gradient in material use: Totally manmade concrete (manmade material with natural shape) semi-manmade ground (concrete with natural local stone) to totally natural element (adjoining green space).
Emphasis- Texture

Night View with Reflection
Concrete Block Reflection
Reflection- Play with Light and Color - Manmade lake- reflect building, sky and surroundings. Especially when the Harpa building has been proved to provide everlasting light and color display during the year, front lakes and cascade extend view to the large area. - The light grey concrete blocks become the screen to display the flowing water under sunshine. That bring vitality to the static entities on the square.

Repeat Natural Pattern: The natural basalt pattern is the main pattern language of the landscape, which appears in ground paving, metal handrail and drain shapes. The repeat natural shape makes the car park more lively, especially in lower ground. The dense basalt slabs bring the sense of nature and inviting playground for visitors.
Overview of structural landscape
Sculptural landscape: Mostly hard landscape. The intentional metal vertical structure, basalt shape with stone and sheet metal, shadow display on the stone wall present a strong sculptural character of landscape. Sheet metal is a visual attraction for its red color and industrial texture.
Rich Texture : The texture changing every time, the experience changing everytime. Like this picture, when I come to this corner, Views are limited and all the things I can see is a plentiful, colorful world. Natural stone with the similar curve on the wall, the smooth concrete surface, basalt shape on the following ground, bright color of building entrance.
