WHAT IS A NEUROVASCULAR INDEX (NVI)? An NVI is a comprehensive duplex ultrasound assessment of over 50 measurements of circulation. These measurements are compiled and then recorded to look for normal and abnormal readings. This allows your rehab team to assess for areas of impairment, chart progress and design a treatment plan specifically to you.
What to prepare for on the day of your NVI assessment 1. Don’t do your home exercise program. 2. On the day of assessment, don’t get overheated. 3. Avoid inflammatory food (avoid known food allergens). 4. Please wear clothing that is loose and will allow for measurements of your arms, legs and abdomen. 5. It is best if you are hydrated. We are looking at your circulation! 6. Enjoy yourself and relax. It will take 60-75 minutes to complete the assessment. 7. Your provider will go over the results either the day of your assessment or the next visit. 8. This is a vital part of your rehabilitation.

Avoid inflammatory foods prior to your visit. This includes sugar. 5. Especially avoid eating the food you will be testing that day. 6. Relax and have fun.

OPTIMIZE YOUR INF TREATMENTS. • Relax and have fun. We are here to help you improve your condition. • Eat well: avoid inflammatory foods, especially prior to your visits. • Hydrate well: Your body is roughly 50% water and your blood is close to 90% water — imagine how much better INF will work for you if you have good hydration. • Stay active. Walking, cardiovascular exercise are needed for circulation. • Make time for your home exercise plan: This enables your therapist to address specific areas of vascular weakness. It truly speeds up the process. • Relax: Spend time in meditation, prayer or spiritual studies. Take time for yourself. • Talk to your family: Let them know how they can help and that you are committed to a lifestyle change to better your health. LLUHMKT#6987-EC-21/0621/1
