HYPOTHESIS A nation’s defense system is always a top priority. Unfortunately, our country was not as prepared as we thought for a biological terrorist attack. The Shock occurred in the year 2016 and Trax infected our citizens. The CDC responded rapidly and was further elected to take control of our ineffective government. Renamed the Center for Disasters and Calamities, the CDC made great strides to protect its citizens from future threats.

PLAN OF ACTION This book chronicles the progression of the CDC’s rise to power. It includes a brand overhaul of the look of the CDC while staying true to their mission of safety and security. In addition to a logo, services and products illustrate what the future of our country looks like. Constant vigilance is the only way we can prevent future attacks and safeguard the future of our country.

HYPOTHESIS Gender equality is an ever present topic in society. While starting the conversation is an important step, what does the world where women and girls are encouraged to pursue any career actually look like? Women Tech Now is a vision for that future.

PLAN OF ACTION To promote the entry and advancement of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), visibility is an imperative. Starting with a poster campaign, women and girls can see action is being taken and vocalized interest will begin to increase. By providing an App and a Web site, Women Tech Now’s Online presence can connect women to an established social community. Simultaneously, this serves to provide peer to peer contacts as well as linking mentors to those looking for advice in specific fields. Seeing women succeed will foster a community of success.

HYPOTHESIS As technology evolves, our reliance on digital forms of craft increases along with it. This is not the only reflected in art and design, but with music as well. This project takes the viewer back in time to the late 1800’s with its content and the methods used in its creation.

PLAN OF ACTION Armed with an overhead projector and a camera, photos were taken to reflect the song Lift Every Voice and Sing, also known as the Negro National Anthem by James Weldon Johnson and John Rosamond Johnson. The design is a reflection of the golden era of African American music production, as well as the accomplishment of attaining a gold record. The status endowed upon the recipient lives far past their earthly lives.

FIL M PERSPECTIV E

02 .20.14

HYPOTHESIS More so than ever before, designers are called upon to coordinate a complex set of materials that must function together as a whole, all with a unified system. To put this in to practice, a film festival was created around the director Robert Rodriguez. While he has produced a number of films, five were selected to highlight his career and unveil a new movie. The overarching theme of the movie selections centers around an anti-hero in a constant battle between celebrating love and fighting for vengeance.

PLAN OF ACTION The festival is entitled Vengeance Never Dies. The misadventures of the anti-hero in each movie is best described by the tag line “where injustice is found, a legend will rise.” No good deed goes unpunished, especially after the loss of one’s lover in a sea of gunfire and chaos. This festival reflects Robert Rodriguez’s belief, that “when given an opportunity, deliver excellence and never quit.”

HYPOTHESIS Words have a powerful impact on the way we see an interact with one another. Words can spark wars, but they can also spark inspiration. When tasked with one word and a blank page, anything can happen.

PLAN OF ACTION To encroach is defined by Merria m-Webster as: to gradually move or go into an area that is beyond the usual or desired limits or to gradually take or begin to use or affect something that belongs to someone else or that someone else is using. After deciding to illustrate a physical act of the word, explorations lead to the topic of im migration. A great divide exists in this country between how open our borders should be. PROTEIN RECOVERY

0 7. 1 8 . 1 4

HYPOTHESIS Milk and cookies are a classic combination. In the current climate of expanding waistlines, healthy alternatives must be made available for people to make better choices. Cookies do not have to be filled with butter and sugar, they can be filled with protein instead. A treat does not have to be bad for your body. Instead, food can serve to replenish your muscles and curb your sweet cravings.

PLAN OF ACTION Lenny & Larry’s is a company that provides healthy and delicious snacks Online and in stores nationwide. A logo update gives the brand a fresh face and a new vision. Customers enjoy nutritious products, but they can also get fitness and recovery tips from the packaging. Cookie

boxes contain exercises to

HYPOTHESIS San Francisco is an urban mecca of sights and sounds in every direction. Headphones are a com mon convenience many people use to block out or enhance their daily travel. With all the outside stimulus its easy to let the song lyrics fall on deaf ears. Often, the music is full of metaphors entrenched in historical and cultural context. While many follow the beat, some like to reflect on the struggles the music brings to life.

PLAN OF ACTION This book follows the visual journey of a hip-hop and pop play list full of social com mentary. Some lyrics seek to inspire and others look to educate. But all provide a sense of catharsis through their creation. By taking the time to truly absorb these works, we can experience our world in a new way. By listening and thinking critically, your world can change before the chorus begins.

ANNUAL REPORT

04.09.13

HYPOTHESIS Every publicly traded company is responsible for reporting their yearly earnings. While that annual report is driven by financial data, it can also reflect the soul of a brand. Pfizer is a pharmaceutical corporation that strives to provide the best quality care for patients around the globe. By maintaining high standards of excellence, research continues to grow and expand to emerging markets.

PLAN OF ACTION The color Pfizer blue is deeply entrenched in brand recognition. It not only signifies the corporation, but also denotes a sense of security. While the financial information of the company is explored, the work Prizer is doing to expand their care is also illuminated. Shareholders can visualize the impact their investment has on lives in a global context, as well as forging the path to progress.

THE THESIS

04.12.15

HYPOTHESIS The thesis is the pinnacle of academic achievement in the realm of graphic design. Through research, synthesis, and application visual com municators solve problems. The thesis project highlights the ability to work through this process by producing a visual solution to a problem affecting society.

PLAN OF ACTION While the LGBTQ acronym may just look like a string of letters, it represents a diverse com munity of vivacious individuals. These individuals live very different lives and encounter a variety of different challenges everyday. What binds them together as social and gender minorities are com mon experiences regarding discrimination. Queercare is dedicated to reducing the disparity in care regarding interpersonal relations between LGBTQ patients and their providers. By educating healthcare professionals about the health related problems LGBTQ patients often face, patients will be much better served.

Queer [noun]:

An umbrella term for sexual and gender minorities that are not heterosexual or cisgender. Originally meaning strange or peculiar, queer developed a usage as a pejorative term for homosexual in the late 19th century. Queer may be used by those who reject traditional gender identities as a broader, less conformist, and deliberately ambiguous alternative to LGBT.

Care [noun]:

The process of providing for the needs of someone or something: The quality of care at this hospital is very good. Trees on city property don’t get any care.
