Ford sets standard again Ford, the industry’s truck leader, marks the launch of the latest F-150 with a new statement on pickup luxury for 2013 – the F-150 Limited. “The F-150 Limited signifies the highest levels of design refinement, luxury and technology that we’ve ever offered in a Built Ford Tough pickup truck, said Ford Group Vice President for Product Development, Raj Nair. “The F-150 Limited reflects a growing trend – more and more customers today have high expectations for luxury and convenience, yet their needs call for a truly capable truck. Ford leads the luxury truck segment. In 1999, the company introduced the special-edition 2000 Harley-Davidson F150. In 2001, the first King Ranch F-150 arrived. The 2009 F-150 took truck luxury to new heights with the Platinum model. Today, more than 30 percent of F-150 sales are from these high-end trims, with MSRPs that start at more than $35,000 and reach almost $50,000. Limited meets the still untapped and growing luxury needs of customers and dealers interested in exclusivity and fine craftsmanship who want to differentiate themselves from other high-end options. F-150 Limited surpasses the well-appointed Lariat, western-themed King Ranch and contemporary Platinum. Exterior
The 2013 Ford F-150 Limited brings a new level of luxury and refinement to the pickup truck market. The 2013 Ford F-150 Limited design combines unique 22-inch polished aluminum wheels and center caps with a monochromatic exterior theme available in three handsome hues – Ruby Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat, Tuxedo Black Metallic and White Platinum Metallic TriCoat. The theme carries through the F-150 Limited exterior design with body-color front
and rear bumpers, front bumper valance, sideview mirror caps, wheel-lip molding, upper fascia and grille surround. Segment-first HID headlamps provide a signature look while delivering two and a half times more light than conventional halogen lamps. Lamp detailing even incorporates F150 insignias. Jewel-like chrome highlights the bold three-bar grille,
tie-down hooks lining the cargo box, the single tip of the tuned exhaust and the tow hooks on 4x4 variants. “LIMITED dimensional lettering accents the box sides. F-150 Limited is available exclusively with a SuperCrew four-door cab configuration. Interior Rich red and black full-grain leather-trimmed seats take luxury and style to new heights in trucks – capitalizing on a
trend seen in other high-end luxury vehicles. The seats also offer cooling and heating with memory functionality to remember seating preferences for two different drivers. Head restraints are four-wayadjustable and second-row seats are heated, too. Aluminum trims the center panel and console, lending a sophisticated yet technical touch that complements the piano black accents. Ambient
lighting can shift the mood of the F-150 Limited interior, offering five accent colors. A standard moonroof provides the upward view, while the rear view camera aids maneuvering visibility. Voiceactivated navigation offers a bird’s-eye view via a centrally mounted 8-inch LCD screen. A power-sliding rear window features privacy tint and defrost functionality. Connectivity comes standard with MyFord Touch powered by SYNC. Designers have optimized the physical interface for MyFord Touch to accommodate truck users who may be wearing work gloves by providing easy access to climate controls and audio presets on the center stack. Limited offers a unique gauge cluster design with a 4.2-inch driver-programmable productivity screen that can be customized to monitor various vehicle systems. The new series level also includes a media hub with USB ports, an SD-card reader and RCA video input jacks. A powerful Sony Audio System is standard. F-150 Limited brings uncompromised capability for entrepreneurial and lifestyle pursuits with an electronic sixspeed automatic transmission with tow/haul mode, trailer tow package, trailer brake controller, Reverse Sensing System, power-deployable running boards and a 110-volt power inverter.
Providing a better view SUVs, crossover vehicles and minivans have long been the most popular types of cars for families. They offer plenty of space, but they have an inherent problem: it's not always easy to back up in a vehicle that big. Large vehicles often have equally large blind spots when driving in reverse, which is an especially dangerous problem for people with young children. In some cars, it's all but impossible to see what's directly behind the rear bumper when backing up. The solution: put a video camera behind the vehicle to give the driver better visibility. BECOMING STANDARD What started out as a sci-fi dream and highend luxury for a few well-healed buyers has now become standard equipment on a wide range of vehicles. Rear-view cameras are so useful that many crossover vehicles and SUVs offer them across their lineup, at no extra charge. Most luxury cars, whether big or small, also offer rear-view cameras as standard equipment or as a nominal upgrade. OTHER CARS While they're most common in large family vehicles, these backup cameras can also be useful in smaller cars. Little two-door coupes, for example, usually have a big blind spot in the back. Their curved rooflines, thick back pillars and high door lines make them look sexy, but they also can limit visibility when backing up. In cars like this — or any car with poor rear visibility, for that matter — it makes sense to spring for the backup camera system if it's offered as an upgrade. Just one avoided fender-
bender could pay for the added cost, which is usually minimal. COMMON UPGRADE Why are rear-view cameras becoming such a cheap, popular option? Because they're easy for
the manufacturers to install. Most camera systems take advantage of a digital screen on the dash that is sometimes used for the navigation system and sometimes simply for controlling the radio station. Adding a rear-

Camaro range expands The road-racing-inspired Camaro 1LE performance package returns for 2013 with unique gearing, suspension tuning and tires that make the model capable of more than 1 g of lateral acceleration and a sub-three minute lap time at Virginia International Raceway’s Grand Course. It is offered on Camaro SS coupes with manual transmissions. All Camaro SS models now feature variable-effort electric power steering and an available dual-mode exhaust system on manual transmissionequipped models. Both features were introduced on the Camaro ZL1. In addition to the new performance features offered on the Camaro SS, all 2013 Camaro models offer a wider range of choices and enhancements that will help it remain America’s most popular sports car. New 1LE The 1LE package is offered on 1SS and 2SS coupe models with an exclusive Tremec TR6060-MM6 six-speed manual transmission. Paired with a numerically higher 3.91 final-drive ratio, the close-ratio gearing of the transmission is tuned for road-racing performance. As with the ZL1, the 1LE transmission features a standard air-to-liquid cooling system for track use. The 1LE also features exclusive, monotube rear dampers instead of the twin-tube dampers on SS models. The new hardware allowed engineers to tune the 1LE suspension to focus on optimal bodymotion control while preserving much of the ride quality and wheel-motion control of the Camaro SS. Visually, the 1LE package is distinguished by its matte
black hood, front splitter and rear spoiler – as well as the 10spoke ZL1-based wheels, which are finished in black. The functional front splitter and rear spoiler contribute to the car’s on-track performance by helping to reduce aerodynamic lift at high speeds. MyLink Chevrolet’s color touch radio with MyLink infotainment is available on 2013 Camaro LS, SS and ZL1 models. The color touch radio, with a seven-inch touch screen, also can be paired with an available indash GPS navigation system – a first for the Camaro. The color touch radio with MyLink gives customers a higher level of in-vehicle wireless connectivity and customized infotainment options, while building on the safety and security of OnStar. Design Camaro’s heritage-inspired interior and exterior convey sportiness through iconic design cues. A rear spoiler is standard on all models and a variety of stripe packages offers a broad range of personalization features. LT and SS models are available with the RS package, which adds 20-inch wheel, body-color roof moldings and antenna, as well as high-intensity discharge headlamps. Eighteen-inch wheels are standard on LS and LT model, with 20-inch wheels standard on SS. The Camaro convertible brings top-down driving fun and style to LT and SS models. And because the architecture for the fifth-generation Camaro was designed to accommodate a convertible model, it gives the cars coupelike driving dynamics. Interior
The 2013 Camaro is inspired by Chevrolet’s muscle-car heritage, with a great combination of style and power. Camaro’s well-executed balance of heritage and contemporary features provides a fun and comfortable environment for up to four. An ambient lighting package on 2LT and 2SS trims gives the interior a special glow with LED light pipe technology.
Driver and passenger seats feature six-way adjustable settings (fore/aft, up/down and tilt), with power recline front seats that are standard on LT and SS models. Heated, leather-trimmed seats are part of the 2LT and 2SS trim packages.
Additional comfort and convenience include a standard driver’s foot rest (dead pedal), power windows with express up/down, an auxiliary gauge panel in the center console – standard in 2LT and 2SS – and a new ZL1-inspired shift knob for all manual transmissions. A
leather-wrapped, three-spoke steering wheel is standard on LT and SS. A head-up display, which projects key instrument, Turnby-Turn navigation and audio system details on the windshield, is part of the 2LT and 2SS trim packages.

Maximum efficiency, usability Ford Motor Company once again raises the hybrid fueleconomy bar with the all-new Ford C-MAX Hybrid, which is now officially EPA-certified at 47 mpg city, 47 mpg highway and 47 mpg combined – beating Toyota Prius v by up to 7 mpg. Hybrids traditionally have been more economical in city driving than on the highway, unlike conventional vehicles. C-MAX Hybrid is Ford’s first hybrid vehicle to offer 47 mpg across the board. C-MAX Hybrid returns the same fuel economy whether driving cross-country or across the city – stemming mostly from a growing list of Ford innovations that have helped the vehicle to deliver an impressive list of metrics, such as its 570-mile overall range, taking customers from Los Angeles to Las Vegas and back on one tank of gas. “The all-new C-MAX Hybrid is a great symbol of how Ford has transformed into a fuel-economy and technology leader with 47 mpg across the board and a highway rating 7 mpg better than Toyota Prius v,” said Ford Vice President of Powertrain Engineering Joe Bakaj. “We’ve done this with innovation – represented by nearly 500 hybrid patents – while driving costs down 30 percent so we can bring these fuel-saving vehicles to more customers.” C-MAX Hybrid is expected to be America’s most affordable hybrid utility vehicle with a base price of $25,995, including destination and delivery, which is $1,300 lower than Toyota Prius v. C-MAX Hybrid is currently available for order at Ford dealers nationwide. As hybrid vehicle drivers traditionally saw superior fueleconomy figures in city driving, loyalists maximized their fuel economy through regenerative braking in stop-and-go traffic. But now higher-speed innovations have caught up on efficiency. “City, highway, and every-

where in between, C-MAX Hybrid is EPA-certified at 47 mpg,” Bakaj said. “It’s a winwin-win.” Power The power of C-MAX Hybrid stems from the combination of a gasoline engine and a battery-driven electric motor, providing customers with “real car” performance and capability. C-MAX Hybrid will offer a top speed of 62 mph in EV mode and 188 net horsepower, beating the Toyota Prius v by more than 50 horsepower. When powered by gasoline, C-MAX Hybrid uses the allnew 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine – powerful and fuel efficient and among the most advanced non-turbocharged four-cylinder powertrains Ford has ever offered. C-MAX Hybrid also offers class-exclusive technologies such as SmartGauge with EcoGuide along with the available hands-free liftgate and
The vehicle has a high roofline – 63.9 inches – offering ample interior space and flexibility. C-MAX Hybrid offers 99.7 cubic feet of passenger space compared with 97 cubic feet in the Toyota. The spacious C-MAX Hybrid also provides greater headroom in both front and rear seats than the Prius v. For cargo, C-MAX Hybrid has 60/40 split-fold rear seats. The seats easily fold flat with 52.6 cubic feet of space behind the first row and 24.5 cubic feet behind the second row. The all-new C-MAX Hybrid is part of Ford’s first dedicated line of hybrid vehicles that also includes the 2013 C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid. Ford C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid is projected to deliver 550 miles of total range, including more than 20 miles in electric-only mode, nearly double the electric-only range of the Toyota Prius plug-in hybrid.

A great time to buy Historically speaking, there may never have been a better time to purchase a new car than right now. Not only are cars more advanced than ever before -- with new technologies and reliable, fuel-saving drivetrains that can save drivers money -- but they're also available during a "perfect storm" of financial conditions that make it a great time to consider purchasing a new vehicle. LOW INTEREST RATES Everyone knows that interest rates can make a big difference over the life of a loan. A few short years ago, top-tier car buyers may have had to pay 10-percent interest or even higher to purchase a new vehicle, while people with less-thanperfect credit would have to pay even more. Today's interest rates, though, are drastically lower than they were just three or four years ago. The financial crisis of 2008 caused central bankers to lower interest rates, and they've kept them near record lows ever since. That means buyers can save thousands of dol-
lars compared to what they would have paid before 2008. It makes new cars more affordable for more people, and it lowers monthly car payments for everyone. AVAILABLE FINANCING Another reaction to the 2008 financial crisis was a tightening of lending standards. For a brief time, unless you had spotless or near-perfect credit, it was all but impossible to qualify for a car loan. Fortunately, the auto financing world has returned to a more reasonable place since then. Car makers and banks reported making more loans to people with lower credit scores in 2012, and dealers are saying that it's easy to find financing for people with all types of credit histories. Between the historically low interest rates and more reasonable lending standards, now may be the perfect time to shop for a new car. There's no way of knowing how long these current financial conditions could last.
Connectivity for all Smart phones and tablet computers mean there is no such thing as an offline life today. People are always connected. The same thing applies to new vehicles, too, as many 2013 models are rolling out new connectivity features that let you use your phone or other devices to stay informed and entertained while on the go. And, while technology like this used to be unveiled for only the most expensive luxury cars, many of today's carmakers are reaching out to younger, more tech-savvy buyers by offering their best connectivity features across their full lineup of vehicles — including their least expensive compact cars that young people can most easily afford. PHONE CONNECTION The vast majority of today's cars, including many compact cars, offer some way to connect your phone to the car wirelessly. The advantages are obvious: Instead of having to pull your phone out of your pocket and fumble with the small keys or touch screen on it, you can keep your hands on the steering wheel and eyes on the road by letting your car do the work. When you get a phone call, for example, many cars will just let you press a button on the steer-
ing wheel to take the call. You'll talk naturally, using the car's built-in speakers and microphone, without having to even pick up your cell phone. VOICE, MUSIC Most of today's cars offer some type of voice command, too. Depending on the particular car and phone you're using, you might be able to say, "Call Mom" and have the phone call go straight through. The same thing applies to your music collection. If you've got thousands of MP3s on your phone, many new cars will let you access them — and often control them by voice — wirelessly using a Bluetooth connection. Some offer a USB port to let you download your entire music collection onto a hard drive in the vehicle. DATA ON THE GO Finally, a few 2013 models are connecting to the internet like never before. One new option is using an in-car Pandora app to stream music wirelessly through your car's stereo system. The bottom line is that carmakers are staying on the cutting edge of digital technology to remain competitive. If you want your vehicle to seamlessly integrate with your digital life, take a look at the latest 2013 models to see how far they've come in terms of technology.

Is your car trying to tell you something? While talking cars only appear in the movies, your vehicle can still communicate using its own language. Sounds like squealing, thumping, hissing and grinding are all signs that your vehicle may be trying to tell you something, says the Car Care Council. “It’s important for car owners to listen and act
accordingly when their vehicle speaks up,” said Rich White, executive director, Car Care Council. “By checking out what your vehicle is saying, you can take care of the problem now and avoid a breakdown or more costly repairs later.” Many motorists are familiar with noises their
2012 Mazda2
vehicles make on a daily basis. However, any noise that is new, different or suspicious may indicate a problem. For example, a high-pitched squeal that stops when pressing on the brake pedal is a sign that a vehicle’s brakes should be inspected. The same goes for grinding that could be the result of worn brake pads that
should be replaced. Thumping that increases and decreases with the speed of the vehicle could mean a trip to your local service center. The diagnosis may be a tire problem like a bubble in the sidewall or torn rubber that could lead to a blowout. For more information, visit www.carcare.org.

Sonata a thing of beauty By Derek Price
effort not to offend anyone, most family cars have started to look pretty much the same. Hyundai’s swoopy, curvy style was a gamble, but it worked. Thankfully, its beauty is more than skin deep. The Sonata is also one of the best driving cars in its price class, with a lineup of sophisticated and efficient engine/transmission combinations that let it drive with a luxurious tautness, which is a hard mixture to get right. The suspension feels firm but not too rough. It feels smooth but not too squishy or bouncy. The end result is a car that provides enough feedback to satisfy the enthusiasts and enough comfort for people who want to just sit back and relax over long stretches of highway. Hyundai nailed the overall driving feel, especially with the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. It makes 274 horsepower — seriously, almost a musclecar-like number — while still earning a 34-mpg highway fuel economy rating. Few engines are capable of making such a huge amount
CARGAZING.COM
Sonata is a great name for a car. Hyundai probably picked it as the moniker for its midsize sedan because it sounds so musical and Italian, both great things for an aspirational car company in Asia. Now there’s a new reason it makes a great car name: everyone seems to be singing the Sonata’s praises. Unless you’ve been living in a cave for the past four years, isolated from all things automotive, then you shouldn’t be surprised to learn that Hyundai doesn’t suck anymore. They used to build cheap, throwaway cars, but now they’ve turned things around. The current generation Sonata is a big reason why. For starters, it looks amazing. You can set it next to virtually any other four-door car in the world and walk away saying, “Wow! Its design stands out because so many other sedans have taken the boring, safe route and ended up with dull, lookalike cars as a result. In an
of power while using so little fuel, something that easily justifies its price premium over the base engine. Sonata pricing starts at $20,895, or $24,895 if you want the turbocharged engine. Granted, the base engine is no slouch. It makes 200 horsepower, which is considerably more than the 2.4- or 2.5-liter engines in the 2012 Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Nissan Altima, Ford Fusion and Chevy Malibu, all while getting 35 mpg on the highway. Either way you go, you’ll be getting a remarkable powertrain. And to top it off, the Sonata still has the best cabin in its class. It’s not only a comfortable, practical and pleasant place to
The Hyundai Sonata looks more expressive than most mid-size sedans. spend lots of time on the road, but all the parts fit together so well that Hyundai needs to give lessons to other car companies — even some luxury
brands — on how to make their interiors feel more solid and upscale. As a whole, the Sonata is a tough car to beat. It does so
