Lions Return Home to Face San Diego The LMU men’s basketball team returns home for the first time in nearly three weeks when they host San Diego on Thrusday, Feb. 5 at 7 pm. The Lions (7-16, 3-8) are coming off a split of a four-game road swing and will host the Toreros (12-11, 5-6), who have won their last three games. The game can be seen on TheW.tv and heard on KXLU 88.9. GAMEDAY The two-game homestand for the Lions is part of LMU Family Weekend. It starts with the Lions’ game on Thrusday against San Diego and ends with the Family Weekend game on Saturday against BYU. Thursday’s game is LMU Housing Night and LMU Cares Night. LMU Housing is hosting a pregame tailgate party for students in the Burns Recreation Center parking lot and halftime will feature a half court shot promotion for a chance at free housing. It is also LMU Cares Night, which will be highlighted by neon-themed t-shirts being worn throughout the venue. LMU CARES (Campus Awareness Resource Education Services) provides education to the campus community about resources, support and policies at the university regarding sexual and interpersonal misconduct and prevention. The game against BYU on Saturday is the Family Weekend game and special tickets are available for families for just $15. The Lions fell to Saint Mary’s, 68-54, on Jan. 29 and then rebounded for a 76-71 overtime win at Pacific on Jan. 31. The Lions erased an 11-point deficit in the final nine minutes to force overtime and then went a perfect 5-for-5 from the field to earn their second comeback win in as many Saturday’s. Junior Marin Mornar had his third double-double in the last six games with a career-best 23 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Evan Payne added 23 points, seven rebounds and three assists as the Lions finished with 20 assists and a 27-16 edge in points off turnovers. • The Lions have found some rhythm on offense, going for 71 assists in the last four games, including 20 assists on 22 field goals against SMC and 20 assists with just 10 turnovers on Saturday. Through 12 non-conference games, the Lions averaged 10.8 apg, while in WCC play they have risen that to 14.5 apg, going for 17.8 apg the last four games. The Lions had 14 assists and a season-equalling low of six turnovers against the Broncos and then went for 17 assists and just 10 turnovers in the win over USF. In the last four games they have an assistto-turnover ratio of 2.1 as compared to their season ratio of 0.9. • Leading the charge has been senior Chase Flint, who has 64 assists and just 15 turnovers the last eight games. He had a career-best 10 assists in the overtime win at Pacific and went for nine assists and no turnovers at USF.
