Family Weekend Game Features Dons and Lions The 2016 LMU Family Weekend Game will be held this Saturday, Feb. 20 as the Lions (11-16, 4-12) take on San Francisco (15-11, 8-7) at Gersten Pavilion. It is the WCC Game of the Week with coverage starting with WCC THIS WEEK live on Time Warner Cable SportsNet at 12:30 pm. Tip-off is set for 1 pm and will also air on TWC SportsNet and on KXLU 88.9 FM. THE MATCH-UP • This will be the 152nd meeting in the all-time series between LMU and USF. The Lions won the first meeting of the series this season, 87-83 on Jan. 14. The match-up between the Dons and Lions the last five years has been one filled with drama and the fact the first meeting of this season when down to the wire was no surprise. Nine of the last 13 meetings have come down to the final minute, with seven coming down to the last possession. This year’s meeting will be the annual Family Weekend Game and is a center part of the University’s annual Family Weekend festivities. It is the WCC Game of the Week and the Family Weekend Tailgate Party starts at 11:30 am on Hannon Field. Time Warner Cable SportsNet will air WCC This Week live from Gersten Pavilion at 12:30 pm. Tip-off will then be at 1 pm between the Dons and Lions. Don’t miss a special t-shirt giveaway for Family Weekend and Kuumba Beatz will perform at halftime. The highlight of halftime will be the LMU Women’s Soccer Team, who will be honored for their trip to the NCAA Sweet 16 with the unveiling of the NCAA Tournament banner. The game will be televised on TWC SportsNet, CSN California, ROOT Northwest, and ROOT Rocky Mountain. It can also be seen out-of-region online at TheW.tv. Feb. 4, 2012 • at LMU - 90-88 Lions hit 10 three’s in 2nd half to erase 16-pt deficit in 7:30 as Drew Viney hits runner in final min. Feb. 21, 2013 • at LMU - 59-61 Lions erase 20-point deficit, take 3-point lead late, USF ties with 3-ptr, then wins it with 0.5 left. Mar. 7, 2013 • LMU - 61-60 (OT) A quarterfinal match-up in WCC’s is 3rd in 4 years. Cole Dickerson hits tip-in with 9 seconds left to send to OT, but Ireland scores first 4 pts of OT to advance Lions to WCC semifinals. Jan. 24, 2015 • at USF - 70-69 Lions erase 17-point second half deficit and Lions hit putback at the buzzer to win it.
INSIDE THE LIONS • The Lions opened their final three-game homestand with a 76-62 setback to Santa Clara on Thursday. The Lions hit 11-for-31 from three, tied for the third most attempts from long range in 25 years. They shot just under 50 percent for the game and got the first LMU double-double for Brandon Brown, who had 20 points and 10 assists. However, the Broncos hit TAKING CARE OF IT GMS TO Avg. 10-for-19 from three and enjoyed a +19 edge in free throw attempts. They YR went 20-for-25 while the Lions were 3-for-6. • The Lions continue to lead the league in turnover margin at +2.4, ranking first in the WCC in creating 13.9 turnovers a game while turning the ball over just 11.48 times per game, third in the WCC. The average on the season has dipped below the lowest in program history, and the previous marks happen to be the last time Mike Dunlap was with the program. Three off the six lowest turnover seasons came between 1980-85 when Dunlap was an assistant coach for the Lions.
