LET’S SETTLE THIS ON NEUTRAL GROUND With Inauguration Day for new LMU President Timothy Law Snyder set for October 6, Gersten Pavilion is currently being prepared for the event and Saturday’s volleyball match has been moved to Pepperdine ... the match will be contested at 5:30 pm from Pepperdine’s Firestone Fieldhouse ... LMU has historically been extremely impressive in matches played at neutral sites, in which neither team is playing on their home court ... the Lions are currently 2-0 in neutral matches this year after finishing last year 4-1 in neutral matches ... LMU was 1-1 in neutral contests in 2013 after finishing 2-3 in 2012 ... 2011 saw the Lions go 4-2 in neutral matches, while they were 6-2 in 2010 ... overall, LMU is 120-58 (.674) in neutral contests since the 1983 season, including having posted perfect neutral records in eight of those 33 seasons ... over that span, LMU has had only five seasons with losing records in neutral matches. LION TRACKS LMU won its 11th first set in 14 matches this year, but moved to 6-5 in those matches after dropping a four-set match to #15 BYU by scores of 22-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-19 on Tuesday night from Smith Fieldhouse in Provo, Utah ... junior Jamie Lea led all players with 19 kills on 45 swings, and the Lions outhit BYU .182-.171, but the Cougars recorded 13 blocks with seven service aces en route to claiming victory ... the Lions, who are averaging better than an ace per set this year, collected just one in the setback ... the Lions did manage nine total team blocks, receiving five block assists from Rachelle Suaava to accompany 12 kills ... sophomore Sarah Sponcil narrowly missed a double-double, teaming 11 kills with eight digs ... Cosy Burnett and Alexa Gray led the way on the attack for BYU, collecting 12 kills apiece ... Burnett hit .280 over the course of the match, teaming the 12 kills with a block solo and three block assists ... Amy Boswell provided a big presence on the block, registering six block assists to finish one better than teammate Whitney Howard with five. DiG PiNK For the ninth consecutive year, LMU volleyball will help raise awareness and funds for the fight against breast cancer through the Side-Out Foundation DiG PiNK campaign ... LMU’s DiG PiNK event will be played on October 22 versus San Diego ... fans are encouraged to wear pink and can donate at the match ...
