Accident: 3 Die In Okene/Kabba Road Crash By NAN
Three persons, including a female child, lost their lives in a crash on the Kabba/ Okene road yesterday. The accident involved two vehicles, a Toyota Sienna car with registration number Lagos KJA 42 XE and a Ford Galaxy with registration number Lagos LSD 141 XJ. 17 other persons sustained various degrees of injury. A statement from the Kogi State sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr Godwin Omiko, said the accident which occurred at about 11.35 am was caused by a wrong over-taking. Omiko said 20 people were involved in the accident, explaining that a child, a man and a woman died on the spot, while others sustained injuries. He said the injured were taken to the General Hospital in Okene for treatment while the corpses were deposited in the hospital’s morgue. The sector commander said the accident disrupted traffic flow, but his men were able to control the situation and reopened the road.
HUMAN TRAFFICKING: Immigration Arrests 7 Suspects In Katsina By Muazu Elazeh, Katsina
The Katsina State command of the Nigeria Immigration Service has arrested seven victims of trafficking at the Kongolam border post. Parading the suspects before newsmen, yesterday, the comptroller of Immigration in the state, Emmamuel Ogbumuo, said they are all from Edo State. Ogbumuo said the suspect’s mission was to cross the border through irregular routes to Agadez in Niger Republic then to Libya and finally to Europe. He said the suspects were led by 29 year old Humphrey Okhani, adding that all of them are indigenes of Edo state. He said the command was intensifying efforts to apprehend the trafficker, noting that the leader of the suspects was helping with useful information. Ogbumuo said the suspected victims would be handed over to NAPTIP for further action and assured of the command’s readiness to rid the state of irregular immigrants and traffickers.

Robbery: Police Kill 2, Arrest 3 After Gun Battle By Gbenga Adeboye, Abeokuta
The special anti robbery squad of the Ogun State Police Command have killed two suspected armed robbers during a fierce gun duel yesterday in the state. A statement by the command spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the police also arrested three of the bandits were arrested in Lagos. It said, “the shootout took place in Epe area of Lagos State leaving two of the robbers dead, while three of them were arrested with fatal bullet wounds.” The statement said the police was able to trace the hideout of the bandits through valuable information from one of the robber’s gang members that was arrested earlier on. It read in part, “it would be recalled that one of the members of the gang, Ahmed Yusuf, was arrested on April 25, 2014 at Dalemo, Ota, Ogun State after snatching a Benz ML Jeep from the owner; and the said Ahmed, in the course of police investigation, agreed to lead the SARS team to their hideout in Epe Lagos State,” The statement said some of the robbers were arrested with bullet wounds while some fled with fatal gun injuries.
According to the statement, “those arrested with fatal bullet wounds includes Adeyinka Olajuwon, Isiaka Salawu, and Jumoke Odukoya. Some of the members, however, escaped with bullet wounds and efforts are in top gear to get them arrested.” It further said that many weapons were recovered from them, including one assault 06 rifle with No 07003808 plus two magazines loaded with 18 rounds of ammunition, three cut-to-size single barrel pistols, two cut-to-size double barrel guns, 10 life cartridges, one axe and assorted charms. The commissioner of police in Ogun State, CP Ikemefuna Okoye, commended the team for the good job, particularly with regards to the follow-up of the car snatching case to achieve the laudable result. He also urged the general public, particularly medical practitioners, to be on the look-out for the wounded fleeing robbers, who may come in contact with them in their attempt to seek treatment. He also directed the officer in charge of SARS in the state, SP Mohammed Tijani to make sure he gets the fleeing members of the gang arrested. CP Ikemefuna assured the good people of the state of adequate protection of lives and property of all residents.
Rape: Police Arrest 3 Gang Rapists In Delta By Kola Eke-Ogiugo, Asaba
Police detectives in Kwale, Ndokwa West local government area of Delta State have arrested a suspected gang of three rapists for allegedly raping a 13- year- girl and inflicting injuries on her private part on her way to school. It was gathered that apart from the sale of Indian hemp in the community and its environs, the suspects have been fingered as possible culprits in the frequent cases of rape and other related acts in the area. However, the police have said that they are intensifying their efforts to bring
three other suspects, who also specialise in raping teenage girls in the area. In his remarks, the acting police public relations officer in the state, DSP Charles Muka, said that the arrested suspects are currently being detained at the Kwale Divisional police station for further investigation and warned that the police is determined to rid all forms of criminal activities in the state. LEADERSHIP checks revealed that the growing cases of crime in the area may not be unconnected to drug abuse, as the area is popular for selling and using drugs and Indian hemp freely.
ARSON: Arsonists Burn Down Court Building In Rivers By Anayo Onukwugha, Port Harcourt
Unknown arsonists yesterday burnt down the Rivers State High Court building in Ahoada, headquarters of AhoadaEast local government area of the state. LEADERSHIP observed that the latest attack on the court, the second time in less than one year, may not be unconnected to the ongoing political crisis in the state. Although residents of the town believe that the arsonists may have used dynamites in the attack, men of the anti-bomb unit of the Rivers State police command, who visited the scene of the incident said there was no trace of Impoverished Explosive Devices (IED) in the area. Speaking to journalists after inspecting the level of damage on the building, the state commissioner of police, Mr. Tunde Ogunsakin, said, “I have visited the scene with the police anti bomb team, who collected samples for analysis at the scene of the attack. “In the sample, no trace of IED was found at the scene and from the analysis of samples collected so far, none of the features of explosion was present and at the scene, there was no evidence of explosion, no shockwaves, and no bang.” Ogunsakin said he had visited the presiding Judge of the court, Justice Charles Wali at his Ahoada residence, who confirmed that he was to preside over some cases for hearing in the day the court that was attacked. The police chief said security will be beefed up in the court premises and the judicial living quarters all around the state to forestall any similar happening, adding that the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) and the police bomb squad have been mandated to fish out the perpetrators of the crime.
