Scam: Ex-convict Jailed Over Money Laundering JOSHUA DADA, Osogbo
An Osun State magistrate court has sentenced an unrepentant ex-convict, Taiwo Jacob, to six months imprisonment over dubious activities and obtaining money under false pretence, yesterday in Osogbo. The 35-year-old ex-convict was said to be an agent who specialise in securing accommodation and land for people. Jacob who is currently serving a two year jail term at Ilesa prison, was sentenced to six months imprisonment by another court
again. Police prosecutor, Mr. Oladele Solomon, told the court that the convict failed to remit the rent of a building located at No 7 Alekuwodo Street, Osogbo, which he collected from a tenant to the owner, one Mr. Yusuf Olagunju. He added that the convict had collected N120, 000 from intending occupants but refused to give them house while the owner of the house was equally not paid. Fraud: Herbalist Dupes Trader N250, 000 Over Fibroid Treatment In Delta By Kola Eke-Ogiugo, Asaba
A 36- year- old trader, identified as Mrs Patience Okolie in Akwukwu-Igbo near Asaba is currently facing matrimonial challenges after she was allegedly duped N250, 000 by a herbalist over her growing fibroid problem. Reports said that the herbalist charged Mrs Okolie N300, 000 with the assurance that he will treat her of her ailment. It was gathered that the victim paid a N250, 000 advance with the promise to pay the balance after the treatment. Sources said that the herbalist allegedly prepared a concoction and gave the victim after she paid the instalment. The victim was rushed to the hospital, where she is currently battling for her life, after drinking a concoction prepared by the herbalist, which resulted to uncontrollable stooling. It was learnt that the herbalist, a self
acclaimed member of the local herb medicine practitioners (name withheld) in a neighbouring community was allegedly dismissed as a civil servant in one of the ministries in the then old Bendel State, for diverting funds into his personal account. In a chat with LEADERSHIP, shortly before she lost consciousness, the victim lamented that she was introduced to the herbalist by a trusted friend. She said, “I was introduced to the herbalist by my friend, who sells plantain and yams, in the market. She said the herbalist has the medicine for fibroid without surgery, I am a mother of two kids and I thought I was pregnant for the third until it was diagnosed as fibroid. I decided to follow my friend’s suggestion because i was afraid of going for a surgery. When i visited the herbalist, he gave me two cans of concoction which i drank and stooled for over two hours without stopping before i was rushed to the hospital.”
KIDNAP: Man Regains Freedom After 4 Days In Kidnappers’ Den By Abdullahi Olesin, Ilorin
A 35-year-old man, Salman Rafiu of Amunyankan compound, Okelele, Ilorin, Kwara State, who was declared missing last Wednesday has been found. Rafiu, Secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Shao Garage branch, Ilorin was declared missing last Wednesday by his family in Ilorin. It was learnt that the victim reported for duty at his work place and later set out to withdraw money at a bank in the metropolis. The victim, according to a family source, who was kidnapped by suspected ritualists at an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) point in one of the new generation banks in Ilorin, was freed on Saturday. Narrating his ordeal to journalists, the victim, who was surrounded by scores of sympathizers, said he went to the bank
to withdraw money, saying that he met other five customers on queue and he joined them. He said, “some people came later and the man next to me asked me if the ATM was dispensing or not but I said yes, that was all I could remember until i recollected myself in a dingy room. I spent three days in the room with my hands and legs bound in a rope. Throughout that period i only ate N30 loaf of bread and sachet water in their shrine. They ordered me to kneel down in a large bowl expecting my blood to be poured into the bowl.” He added that at intervals, his abductors came to check for his blood and tried their charm many times but it failed.” Rafiu said his abductors got tired after the fourth day and later dropped him inside a gutter at Eyenkorin along Airport road by 10 pm on Saturday where some passers-by rescued him.
