About Face PUT YOUR BEST SKIN FORWARD WITH THE SKIN LOFT WRITTEN BY: STEPHANIE TEASLEY PHOTOGRAPHED BY: BIANCA SIMONIAN
After she moved to the desert, Tracey Plott’s skin had noticeably changed. “I literally dried up,” she recalls. Following the birth of her first child, Plott decided she needed more flexibility and a relaxing atmosphere. “I have always been obsessed with skincare and taking care of my own skin.” Then, after earning her aesthetician license, she opened up a boutique day spa: The Skin Loft.

Plott does extensive research on her products and found that Italian wax is the gentlest on skin. The prices are affordable— starting at $7, The Skin Loft offers waxing services that include arms, hands and feet—making services accessible for all ages. “I have three teenagers,” Plott says. “They come in with their friends. Big thing with teenagers [are] the eyebrow waxes and teen facials.”
P
The Skin Loft also offers an organic solution to spray tanning, and it comes from sugar beets! “[The organic spray tan] doesn’t have all the harsh chemicals over-thecounter tanning lotion can give you,” she says. “It’s perfectly safe, even for pregnant women.” Plott touts the flexibility of the rapid organic spray tan, which develops in three to six hours. “You can take a shower after two hours if you want a
lighter tan,” she says. “It’s for the people who need [a] spray tan but don’t have a lot of time.” Ultimately, The Skin Loft caters to the importance of each individual’s skin. “With all of our facials, we like to analyze the skin first,” Plott says. “We want to make sure clients have the best facial or service, so they walk out happy.” After all, beautiful skin is the best form of advertisement!

Family Matters HOW A CHILDREN’S BOUTIQUE IS PUTTING FAMILY AND COMMUNITY FIRST WRITTEN BY: STEPHANIE TEASLEY PHOTOGRAPHED BY: LAURA PERKINS
JadaBug’s Kids Boutique Owner Heidi McArthur is no stranger to children and their needs. A transplant from Minnesota, McArthur owned and operated a childcare business for 12 years before moving to the desert. She started a cloth diaper business and contracted with JadaBug’s, then she took it over four years ago. Since taking over, McArthur has expanded the boutique, adding more space, products and services. “We want to focus on community,” McArthur says. “All About Families is a non-profit that we work with, and they do free breastfeeding clinics and mommy support networks every week.”
S
JadaBug’s also offers music, yoga and story time classes. “We’ll be starting tutoring after school for older kids,” McArthur says, “and we have paint-and-wine nights for adults. We’re trying to incorporate everyone.” McArthur values convenience as much as she does children and families. Any toy that needs batteries

From classes and merchandise to outstanding customer service, the love and respect that McArthur has for her business and clients is clear—JadaBug’s Kids Boutique always puts family first.

Just Be Kas CHRIS SANCHEZ’S CHROMAPLEX EVOKES RAW, UNIVERSAL INSPIRATION WRITTEN BY: JORDAN NISHKIAN PHOTOGRAPHED BY: GEORGE DUCHANNES
An off-shoot of La Quinta’s Public Library, the Creation Station provides a maker space for hobbyists, educators and students with the equipment, tools and classes they need to create their next project. But a blank wall on the outside of the station doesn’t serve as much inspiration. Fortunately, when the City of La Quinta put out a request for proposal for a muralist, local artist Chris Sanchez (aka Kas Infinite) answered the call.
As an East Valley native, Sanchez grew up in the desert, and even attended La Quinta High School, so when it was time for him to create something for the city, he couldn’t help but be excited. “It’s a great sense of accomplishment,” he says. “There aren’t too many murals in La Quinta, so to be one of them is great.”
A
“When people visit my mural or the La Quinta Library, my intention with Chromaplex [is] to
make the viewer stop and absorb the work,” Sanchez explains. “[I want it to] spark a sense of wonder and [for them to] feel the sense of the kinetic momentum within the geometry and gradients embedded within the mural.” Sanchez’s inspiration for Chromaplex shares a direct relationship with the Creation Station. “I was trying to build an idea of what would be ultimately universal in a sense of raw inspiration within that space,” he says.
Needless to say, it is impossible to not stop and stare at this work for that very reason. Chromaplex is a vivid and vibrant splash of color complemented by its desert backdrop. Its magnanimous size engulfs the viewer in an evocative rush, turning the creative wheels on projects both new and forgotten. It’s effervescent, bright and serves as an inspiration for all who gaze upon it— whether just walking past or getting ready to create something for themselves.
ALL BY DESIGN • According to Sanchez, he designed the base for the sketch using AutoCAD (computer-aided design software used by architects and engineers), a technology that is also offered at the Creation Station.

1. THE CLUB COURSES • You'll have the chance to work on your swing at six separate courses, each with its own aesthetic. Of those, there are three club courses, which members share with resort guests: the iconic Stadium Course, which was ranked among the top fifty in the country by Golf Digest, the Nicklaus Tournament and the Australian-themed Greg Norman Course. 2. THE PRIVATE COURSES • In addition to the aforementioned areas, members receive access to three additional courses. These include the Tom Weiskopf, with
panoramic views of the valley, the Jack Nicklaus Private, which can put skilled players to the test and the Arnold Palmer Private, a rugged, tournament-worthy stretch of green. 3. THE PROPERTY • Per Jennifer Jenkins, Director of Membership Sales and Marketing: "This is truly a property that cannot be duplicated. Because of the land value alone, we'll never have this collection any place else." 4. THE AMENITIES • Members enjoy access to an array of restaurants, pools and signature clubhouses. "It's its own little retreat," remarks
Jenkins. "If you want to be at the [pool] and be with a bunch of people, you can do that, or if you want to be at your own area and relax, you can find that serenity." 5. THE STAFF • The PGA WEST boasts numerous 10-to-20year employees, all dedicated to giving members the ideal experience. “People stay because the property is part of their family,” Jenkins says. “They have a lot of pride and it shows." Whether you're on the links or stepping out for a bite to eat, topnotch service is more than an expectation—it's a guarantee.

ESCAPE
Sticking the Landing JOSH DIXON SHARES THE MENTALITY BEHIND HIS SUCCESS WRITTEN BY: JANE ADLER PHOTOGRAPHED BY: LAURA PERKINS
Hey Dos Equis: we have a new most interesting man in the world for you—and his name is Josh Dixon. A former gymnast, entrepreneur, digital personality and businessman, Dixon takes multifaceted to the max. Born and raised in the Bay Area, Dixon is a guy who knows how to get back on the horse if he falls off—and we’re not just talking about the pommel horse. He lives by a “throw me into the deep end” mindset which is the cornerstone of his character.
H
“Don’t be afraid to fail,” says Dixon. “By having that mentality, you don’t limit yourself.” This attitude has allowed Dixon to see success at Stanford all the way to the US Senate (as a
Legislative Aide) and back to Southern California at a consulting firm, as documented on his social media. If you follow Dixon on Instagram, you will probably find yourself envious of his on-the-go lifestyle, complete with a smile that would make any dentist drool—but he’s in it for more than just the likes. “It’s really fun working with brands and getting to know the people,” Dixon says. “Like, okay, what’s the story you want to tell and how do I keep it really authentic to my own ethos… It’s a fun, creative outlet outside of my day-to-day work responsibilities.” Recently, Dixon partnered up with La Quinta Resort & Club, A Waldorf Astoria Resort to show off their impressive piece of property to his quarter of a million followers.
He describes the hotel as a desert oasis of pure luxury as he reminisces over poolside cabana cocktails and fun in the sun. An avid tennis player, Dixon enjoyed dusting off his racquet at their state-of-the-art facilities and even tried his luck on their links before hitting happy hour at one of the resort’s restaurants. Only a two-hour drive from Dixon’s home in Newport Beach, La Quinta is the quintessential staycation scenario—close enough for a weekend away, but far enough where you feel like you are really escaping to somewhere. La Quinta is the ultimate travel destination for those looking to lounge and live a life of leisure. Dixon can attest to that (Just check out this photo!). Now, can we get this guy a cocktail, please?
