MAKING THE ISSUE SilverRock Resort served as an effortlessly beautiful backdrop for our November cover shoot. The plush greenery accompanied by the scenic mountains surrounding the 18-hole golf course made our photographer Adam Gentry’s job a breeze. Snapping shots around the property left an abundance of cover-worthy photos to choose from. Our model Nicole Pedra looked sporty in apparel provided by SilverRock Resort’s Golf Shop with chic sunnies provided by Panache Optical Gallery. Our stylist Neil Cohen pulled a variety of looks that make for a stylish getup for the golf course—a sleek sun visor, bright Bermuda shorts, and a poppin’ sleeveless polo collar all included. Pedra was beautified by the lovely Zenaida Aispuro of Just Blow Drys. Our model’s hair and makeup was achieved because of the all-star service at this one-of-a-kind Palm Desert salon, giving it just the right touch to remain gorgeous for the duration of the entire cover shoot.

Mini Q&A With Brian Liberto, Real Estate Agent at HOM Sotheby’s International Realty
Ò After staying at these luxurious hotels for a
short while, you may want to make Palm Springs your home. Real estate agent, Brian Liberto, tells us what we need to know: Q: What is the first step to buying a home? Brian Liberto: First step would be to review your finances with your lender and have them provide you a few options to see what you can afford, but more importantly what you’re comfortable spending. Q: What advice would you give first time homeowners? BL: Focus on buying a property that you can afford and look at it as a stepping stone to buying what you want down the line. Q: How can homeowners incorporate the resort-like amenities to their new homes? BL: By utilizing outdoor space and making their home an open concept between the kitchen, living room, and backyard. Q: Is there a demand for eco-friendly home features? If so, what are those features? BL: Yes, you will see a lot of this in new properties where they use: Energy efficient appliances, solar panels on their homes, landscaping that utilizes less water, and fake grass.

CULTURE
CONNOISSEUR Q&A With La Quinta Museum Manager Robin Stewart Q: Tell us about the museum and what it’s all about! Robin Stewart: It’s a cultural museum, meaning it’s a place where art, history, and science all come together. Q: What is one exhibit we shouldn’t miss? RS: There are two. One is our mural by Andre Blanche, showcasing the history of La Quinta. It took him a year and a half, and he was 85 years old when he painted it. You also shouldn’t miss the Dorothea Lange photo collection. They are rare, beautiful images taken in the Coachella Valley. Q: How does the museum show the history of the Valley? RS: We’re not a big museum, but we do a lot with our space. We have a local history gallery with a mini diorama of the Cahuilla Native Americans. We also have some of the native animals here, and images of Cahuilla woman weaving baskets like the ones we have on display in the museum. Q: What sets the Museum apart? RS: Our second floor gallery is constantly changing. We house traveling exhibits, as well as our local history gallery. Also, everything is free to the community. Q: Could you tell us about upcoming events or exhibits? RS: On Dec. 1 we’ll be lighting up the casita for the holidays, and on the 11th we will have the Artist Studio Tour, which gives people the chance to see artists in their own space and see how they create. There will be 2025 art studios available to see, and it’ll only be $10 for a bracelet.

Looking Sharp Ò Q&A With
Oscar Chavez, Owner of Old Fashion Barber Shop Q: How did you get started? OC: I started cutting hair in my garage, taking care of my family, then my friends. After, I went to school and took an apprenticeship from a barber who was my friend. It took a while, but I saved up enough money to open my own shop and on Feb. 7, 2007 Old Fashion Barber Shop opened in La Quinta. Now I have four around the Valley. Q: What sets Old Fashion Barber Shop apart? OC: Everyone takes care of each other and we get lots of regulars, including snowbirds. We also like to give haircuts to kids. Anyone from newborns to 100-year-olds can get their hair cut here. Our vintage barber chairs from the 1920s to the 1950s give the shop that old school feel. Q: What makes a good barber? OC: Work ethic – that’s where it all starts. Take the time to know your customers, put the time in. Do your best, listen to good advice, listen to your clients. Make everyone feel special, because they are.

A CUT ABOVE THE REST Our Favorite Barber Shops in Greater Palm Springs WRITTEN BY: SARA HYLAND

they are and how they want to be perceived. The barbers of the world mold these perceptions through clippers and razors. The best shops keep the classic authenticity feel with hot towel shaves and the use of straight razors. Take a seat in their leather barber chairs, wrap yourself in one of their capes, and await your transformation.
