EMANUEL AX Pianist Emanuel Ax makes standard piano repertoire sound fresh and new, and plays musical premieres as though he’s known them for a lifetime. The winner of seven Grammy Awards, Ax is in demand as a soloist with the world’s major orchestras, and as a recitalist in far more intimate settings. His musical depth and understanding is at the heart of his long chamber-music partnerships with such greats as Yo-Yo Ma, Yefim Bronfman, and Itzhak Perlman.

HOW DO YOU HOMESTEAD? (i.e., how do you lead a life of self-sufficiency in this modern world of convenience?) Some local homesteaders we’ve covered over the years: April Issue 2016
“Giving, trading, bartering—one of the loveliest (and perhaps one of the most important) aspects of urban homesteading is how it provides a profound degree of independence, yet remains centered in connection. Not isolation.” – Robin and Tom Day, Nob Hill, ABQ
April Issue 2017
“There’s this lofty ideal of being self-sustaining, but in practice, it’s more community sustaining: what are we growing and what are you growing, and how can we share?” – Juliana Ciao of Reunity Resources
What’s your story? Do you garden, compost, raise chickens, sew your own clothes? How do you self-sustain? Email associate editor cullen@localflavormagazine.com by Friday, March 14 with a brief tale of your efforts (include high-res images!) for possible publication in April’s Garden & Homestead issue.
