I haven’t written about this before, but since last August I’ve been following a ketogenic lifestyle. I hate to use the word ‘diet’ because to me diets are short term and what I’ve been doing is definitely not short term. But it has involved radically changing what I eat, and boy do I feel good on it. I’m sleeping better, have bags of energy, no cravings and hardly ever get hungry. AND, did I forget to say? I’ve lost almost 3 and a half stones! In case you haven’t heard of it, keto is low carb (20g or less per day), moderate protein and high (healthy) fat. That means no bread, potatoes, pasta, rice etc. I get my carbs now from vegetables, so it’s super healthy. And I’ve turned into a cheese fiend! I have at least 6 types in the fridge at all times! It helps that my chocoholic daughter has stopped eating sugar and dairy for her skin, so there’s less ‘bad’ food, ie sugar, in the house to tempt me. Well, there’s still some - the husband is a die-hard carb lover and hides his kitkats in various strategic locations in the kitchen. My treat of choice is now a couple of squares of 90% chocolate (which I used to hate!). That and cheese, of course. For Christmas, my son bought me a t-shirt with ‘Recovering Carboholic’ on the front. That’s the new me! Until next time!

You can turn dictation into a transcription service: listen to a recording of an interview, meeting or any other audio on headphones, turn on dictation in your computer and then repeat whatever the person in your headphones says. The dictation software will automatically turn your speech into editable, on-screen text, and because you’re sitting close to the computer in a fairly quiet environment the results should be very accurate.

CHRISTIAN AID WEEK 12-18 May 2018 In the last 15 years the people of Carryduff have very generously contributed over £100,000 pounds in the yearly door-to-door collections. Christian Aid uses our money to help Christians and nonChristians alike, to alleviate poverty and injustice and in bringing relief in disaster situations such as the recent Cyclone Idai flooding emergency in Africa. This year a different type of collection envelope will be used in some areas of Carryduff, including large parts of the Baronscourt, Meadowvale and Muskett developments. These will not be collected by a collector, but, instead, contributors are asked to leave their envelopes in Carryduff Pharmacy, 6 Hillsborough Rd. Thank you for your help. 38

10th May R. A. F. 100 years of service Competition: Who Wore the Uniform 9th June (Saturday) Outing
Various craft classes were organised throughout the last year. Many ladies received very commendable grades for the standard of their work. At the NIFWI 2019 AGM last month in the Europa Hotel The Etta Stewart Cup was awarded to Christina Haycock and the Emily Blair Trophy to Jane Laverick. In the February Arts Competitions Joan Laverick won the Newtownbreda Trophy. We do not meet in July or August so think about coming along in September and join for 2019 - 2020. Meetings are on the 2nd Friday of each month Sept to June at 7.30 in Knockbreda Church Hall Purdy's Lane. Make new friends, learn new skills, hear interesting speakers and of course enjoy a cup of tea and good craic. Motto: Women Involved In family, friendship and community Further information about the W.I. Can be found at www.wini.org.uk

ST ITA’S PRIMARY SCHOOL Congratulations to St. Ita’s Eco-Committee and Miss McGarry who received the prestigious Ambassador School Award on Thursday the 21st of March at W5. The P6/7 representatives attended the EcoSchool’s Annual Teacher Conference and showcased some of their fantastic work which included promoting ‘Fair Trade Fortnight’ and ways in which they keep the school “green and clean!” This award recognises excellence in the Eco-School’s programme and is a tremendous achievement for the school. The EcoCommittee would like to express their gratitude to the whole school and wider community for their continuous support in ensuring St. Ita’s is environmentally friendly. Well done! IZAK9 Day in St Ita’s St Ita’s pupils enjoyed a wonderful IZAK9 day on Friday 22nd March. Mr Franz Schlindwein, the creator of this numeracy resource, and Ian Campbell, came to spend the day in our school. During this day they visited all P4-P6 Classes and enthused the children with demonstrations of IZAK9 activities. They also set up an IZAK 9 maths trail in the assembly hall for the P6&P7 pupils. This was highly competitive and generated much exciting mathematical thinking. Franz also took time to visit a P1 class and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Both gentlemen were most impressed with the mathematical questioning from our pupils.
