Michael Curling grew up in Roswell, graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and finance, earned his MBA from Virginia Tech and then decided to return ‘home’ to Roswell to start his own family. He and his wife of eight years, Randi, have two daughters, ages four and one, with a third baby due in June. The family attends Roswell United Methodist Church. As VP at New Kent Capital, Michael manages investments of all types, from traditional portfolios to commercial real estate and redevelopment projects in downtown Roswell. He sits on the Board of RoswellNext, where he is focused on growing membership and increasing outreach; and he also serves on the board of directors for Roswell Economic Development and Tourism, Inc.

Michael is very proud to be a member of Roswell Rotary, through which he facilitates the Crabapple Middle School Youth Service Interact Organization. He is a passionate supporter and former board member for Amigos For Christ, which became dear to his heart after living in Nicaragua and working with the organization in 2007-08. He also serves on the Roswell Downtown Development Authority (DDA) promoting and working for appropriate economic development activity within Roswell’s downtown area. Someone once told him that it's okay to not have 'the answer' but to be sure to always ask questions and work to a better understanding. Jennifer Peterson is the branch chief for Strategy, Policy and Communications at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Division of Global HIV and Tuberculosis, which is part of the U.S. Government’s President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). She had served at the U.S. State Department helping to launch PEPFAR. In this role, she supervises a staff of 21, leading strategy, policy and communications for this preeminent global HIV and Tuberculosis program, helping millions around the world.

Before completing her undergraduate degree in Political Science and U.S. History at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Jennifer participated in a study abroad in Cape Town, South Africa, which at the time was marking 10 years since the end of apartheid. She told us her experience in South Africa altered the course of her life and inspired a career of public service. She returned to South Africa to earn her Master’s degree at University of Cape Town with a Master's of Philosophy degree in HIV/AIDS and Society.

Married to Amogh Upadhyay, who works for Cox Communications, they are proud parents of an 8-month-old son, Leo, as well as a Chihuahua/Jack Russell mix named Littlefoot. She has been fortunate to have visited 36 countries, and this month she is adding a 37th - Morocco - to this list during a belated honeymoon.

Jennifer gave a TED Talk about how she once chased Mandela’s motorcade and explored what it means to be an inspired change agent – someone like Mandela who has a vision for a better world and helps to make that vision a reality.

"Randy Mallard has been changing lives in Roswell through his work creating outlets for student athletes by hosting Athletic Mechanics Clinics and his volunteer work with MUST Ministries, North Fulton Community Charities and Maggie’s 5K. He has learned in life he must take advantage of every opportunity, especially when the ‘payoff ’ can’t be expressed monetarily or in numbers. He graduated from Indiana State University - Sycamore with a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science and a minor in Strength and Conditioning and currently serves as 'Head Trainer' at Burn Bootcamp in Roswell, which he says has blessed him allowing him to impact over 5,000 lives, locally. He and his fiancee have a three-year-old daughter, Reagan. 20

Randy doesn't just impact the lives of those locally, we were told he "inspires a nation" through Burn Boot Camp by acting as their opening trainer nationally. He has motivated hundreds of locals to better themselves and is a role model for student athletes and community leaders. He played football at Indiana University and volunteers his time throughout the Roswell community to help student athletes better their minds and their skillsets. Roswell High School's football team has been fortunate to reap the rewards of Randy's community outreach. One of his students said, "Burn Boot Camp's success is directly tethered to Randy Mallard."

Pat Rains moved to Roswell in 2005, having graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in international business. He and his wife Jennifer live in Roswell and have two sons, Turner (5) and Jace (3). Co-founder of Gate City Brewing Company with partner Brian Borngesser, Pat oversees the production aspects of the business, which last year was named the 21st fastest growing brewery in the U.S. - out of a pool of about 7,000. He is proud that GCBC helps contribute to economic development and tourism in Roswell and is a catalyst of growth for local initiatives like Alive in Roswell, Food Truck Fridays, Riverside Sounds and the Roswell Trolley. He has been an active member of Roswell Rotary for 12 years and is most proud of his service as two-time chairman of the Awbrey

Greenway Golf Tournament (which supports 30 local charities) setting a record for the fundraiser in 2011 raising $174,000 and over $200,000 five years later under his chairmanship. He headed up public relations the year the club won best overall PR for the district. Additionally, Pat serves on the Board of Directors for the Roswell Economic Development and Tourism, Inc. He attributes any success to the wonderful friends, colleagues and mentors who believe in him and want to see him succeed. A competitive athlete through college and beyond (until an injury sidelined him at 25) Pat is a hard-worker who will achieve whatever he sets his mind to. Surrounding himself with successful people has helped set his mind to worthy, local endeavors. 21

Naylor Hall We chose to host the awards presention reception for the Top 10 winners of the 2019 Roswell Magazine 10U40 Recognitions because this historic home on Canton Street speaks "Roswell" to us. No more fitting setting to honor the best of the next generation of Roswell's leaders.

Built in the 1840’s by Barrington King for H.W. Proudfoot and his wife, Euphemia, the original part of what would later become Naylor Hall was built as a home featuring a four room clapboard cottage with a central fireplace. Mr. King, son of the city of Roswell’s founder, employed Mr. Proudfoot as a bookkeeper in his newly constructed Roswell Mills, which would later become famous in its own right for its production of Roswell Grey cloth used in Confederate uniforms. Reportedly, in anticipation of Sherman’s march, huge supplies of Confederate uniforms were taken from the mill and secretly stored at Naylor Hall. Sadly, in the summer of 1864,

the Proudfoot’s home was heavily damaged by Federal troops. However, after occupation, Proudfoot began to rebuild the home. He remained with Roswell Mills and in his home until his death in 1871. In the late 1930’s Colonel Harrison Broadwell purchased the property, naming it as it is known today as Naylor Hall in honor of his wife’s family. He additionally added many of the improvements that can still be found today, such as the columns, the handcrafted woodwork, and the portico encompassing the original structure. Well into the 21st century, Naylor Hall continues to make history with each and every event celebrated on Canton Street. www.30075life.com

As a child, Alex Kaufman learned to ride his bicycle at Roswell River Park and in high school rowed crew in the same park for AJRA. He and his wife Dr. Kasia Kaufman, who teaches high school science, are members of Temple Emanuel and have a four-legged pup named Reagan. Alex graduated from Westminster High School with honors and has served as coach of its Mock Trial Team for six years. He graduated with honors from Hamilton College in Clinton, and then earned his law degree at Emory University School of Law, winning Emory Pro Bono Award. Alex is currently serving as adjunct faculty member for Emory's Trial Techniques Program.

Alex was the Republican nominee for State House District 51, which includes much of Roswell, Sandy Springs and Johns Creek. He is a partner at Kaufman & Forman P.C., a member of the GA, NY, DC and MA Bar Associations, has served on the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court’s Commission on Professionalism, the Roswell 2030 Economic Development and the Comprehensive Plan committees and is a board member of Roswell Economic Development and Tourism, Inc.

Lisa Stevens has lived in Roswell over five years and opened two businesses here: MKT Collaborative is a boutique marketing firm specializing in helping architects, engineers, general contractors and commercial real estate developments. From the Earth Brewing Company - which she owns with her husband, Tim - is a brewpub in Roswell offering chef-driven, locallysourced menu items and craft beer. The couple and their three children (daughters Jordan, Kinsley and Madeline) attend St. Ann’s Catholic Church.

She now Chairs its annual fundraiser, Sip, Savor & Support, which generates between $40,000 and $50,000 in revenue with proceeds going directly back to Drake House’s programs for the mothers. She says, “I fell in love with this organization because of the mission - giving mothers and their children a safe place to live, while getting everything they need to get back on their feet. The programs offered at by Drake House help these mothers become successful, independent women, and that inspires me.”

For many years, Lisa has been a huge advocate for the Roswell-based Drake House, having served on its Advisory Board since 2013, as well as on the Miss Mary’s Ice Cream Crankin’

One of her favorite sayings is, “Don’t worry about failures; worry about the chances you might miss if you don’t even try.” 25

Jon earned his Master's degree in Ancient History in the University of Reading (England) after achieving his BA in History from Purdue. He and his wife have a two-year old daughter, and he is currently the Marketing Manager for Chattahoochee Nature Center, tasked with educating the public about the River, its wildlife and plant life, as well as the dangers it faces. Active in the Kiwanis of Historic Roswell, Jon serves on its board and gets his hands dirty - cleaning up the river for Keep Roswell Beautiful’s Rivers Alive annual event, volunteering in nonprofit initiatives, as well as assisting the club using his marketing skills. He has sat on the board of STAR House for many years, first as part of a youth engagement program and

now a full-voting member with collaborative input. He is intentional about drawing more visitors not just to CNC but to all of Roswell so he has become involved with the Southeast Tourism Society and the Atlanta Metro Travel Association. A former editor once told him, “The reward for good work is more work.” Jon says this tip helped him manage expectations in his career and to always push harder to prepare for the next challenge. One of his favorite quotes is by Ghandi, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” He says that shows us we cannot rely on others to make the world a better place. We should start with ourselves and our own actions.

Carli McDonald enjoys taking her four-year-old daughter (Dylan) on adventures, hot yoga classes at Korsi Yoga, baking, traveling and exploring Roswell, still discovering new things after living here for 12 years. Her impressive career is built on a strong foundation of education, having earned her bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Vanderbilt University, a Juris Doctorate and a master’s degree in Tax from Georgia State University. As Partner-in Charge for Aprio, LLP, a CPA-led business advisory firm which provides traditional assurance services, tax and accounting, as well as business advisory services, Carli’s specialty is in helping innovative companies invest in more innovation by saving money on their taxes. Additionally, she is a member of the Atlanta Bar Association, the State Bar of Georgia and the American Bar Association.

Very active in our community, she directs her charitable contributions and service towards conservation, education and nature. Carli serves on the Board of Trustees for the Chattahoochee Nature Center and is co-chair of their largest annual fundraiser ‘Rockin’ at the River.’ Her daughter’s favorite outing is a trip to the zoo, where Carli serves on the Leadership Council and is excited to be a part of its big renovation project. She mentors young women and men through Aprio’s alumni network and is a member of Grady Hospital’s Ambassador Force. Ryan Pernice graduated from Roswell High School before attending Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration, earning a degree in Hospitality Management. There he was a Meinig Family Cornell National Scholar for undergraduate leadership and academic excellence. Gisele Holloway fell in love with and purchased a home in Roswell when she moved here in 2012 from Phoenix, Arizona. Originally from Brazil, Gisele earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from University Potiguar, in her hometown of Natal before moving to the U.S. 14 years ago. A mother of two sons, ages five and eight, Gisele leads the typical hectic life of a single mom / entrepreneur; and she has found her place among new friends up and down Canton Street. In 2017, she opened Cre8 Loft, a coworking/studio space in downtown Roswell, which became a springboard to more local connections and opened her eyes to see needs in our community. Her side business (at the time) Aerial Avenue, which provides drone imagery, 3D Virtual Tours and Panoramic 360 immersive presentations, was taking off (pun intended) quickly for her, so she began putting more of her attention there, which inevitably

spawned Virtual Roswell and Everywear Local. Proof there is more than one road to take to make an impact within one’s local community, she strives to make a difference in Roswell through her work and her creative ideas. While serving on boards and committees and leading organizations is extremely admirable, it’s not the only way to move local mountains. Gisele serves by leveraging her talents for the greater good; one of which is photography. For example, she photographed 48 dogs to assist Roswell Provisions with a fundraiser for local nonprofit, ‘The Community Bench’, which helps women transition into the workplace after incarceration or domestic abuse. She donated her time and talent to the STAR House Foundation providing professional-quality images for use marketing the Roswell Beer Festival and on their new website. 33

Most people would agree that art in its many forms - sculptures, dance, murals, music, theatre - can lift our spirits, stimulate creative thinking and promote well-being. But the value of the arts goes beyond aesthetics and emotions. Research shows that when a city invests in the arts, it has real financial return. How does that happen? Thriving arts and culture draw crowds from within and around a community, increasing visitors, enhancing resident participation, promoting other community assets and increasing foot traffic and pedestrian activity. The arts are magnets for creative entrepreneurs who in turn attract new residents, customers, businesses, workers, and visitors. Arts and cultural assets are a critical factor for influencing where a business, entrepreneur or real estate developer chooses to locate because they are proven to help improve quality of life and economic growth. The arts signal that our city is a healthy and a vibrant place to live, which can increase the value of our homes and businesses. Arts investments that have made real financial impact: Chicago’s Millennium Park project invested in hundreds of Public Artworks to redevelop a blighted downtown area, including the iconic “Cloud Gate” sculpture, dubbed by locals “The Bean”. The park is credited with stimulating real estate growth in the surrounding area, with an impact of $1.4 billion in residential development. Caltrans in Los Angeles incorporated artwork on the façade of new transit buildings and capitalized on a steady stream of income from the film industry leasing the buildings as a

backdrop. They also benefitted from the visibility, publicity and branding that would have cost traditional marketing efforts 10 times more than the cost of the artwork. Miami’s yearly Art Basel art fair ignited the area’s development, including retail, restaurants, pop-up galleries, artist studios, and public art. The area is now a magnet for tourism and the impact is known as the “Art Basel/Miami Effect”. How can we increase our investment in the arts in Roswell? Non-profits and local governments often lead the way in these efforts. They establish requirements for private and public development to include public art or cultural art programing, known as a “Percentage for Art”. It’s a financial investment by the city, developers, and business owners that collectively yields real financial return for all. It encourages new development to be both utilitarian and a destination and landmark. Arts and culture can illuminate our inner lives and enrich our emotional world. But they have a much wider, more measurable impact on our economy, health, and well-being. It’s important that we all recognize this impact and incorporate the arts as a strategy for economic development. Last October, the Roswell Arts Fund launched such an initiative, Artist Around the Table, inviting 5 local artists and 4 City of Roswell Departments to discuss integration of public art throughout city projects. The artists submitted suggestions summarized in a report outlining visions and themes for art in Roswell. Efforts like these help Roswell continue to thrive and have a positive economic impact. www.roswellartsfund.org.

You can steer yourself any direction you choose.”–Dr. Seuss Professionally, Tyler is a risk management consultant with Hayashi Insurance Solutions in Roswell, but in his spare time, he enjoys traveling with his wife, Brooke, who is a fine art and antique appraiser. The couple, which has a 1-year-old daughter named Winnie and has lived in Roswell for six years, loves visiting England to explore the culture and art. Tyler is also very involved in the Voila Foundation, sitting on the Board of Directors, and enjoys working with Friends of Bulloch, an organization that raises money for the historical Bulloch Hall.

We rehearsed out of the City of Roswell facility. Currently, I serve as the Artistic and Executive Director, volunteering most, if not all, of my time. In this role, I secured our 501c(3) status (all on my own by following 65 pages of IRS instructions). In 2007, I created a weekend workshop for students with Down syndrome, which has now turned into weekly dance classes and a dance company at my dance studio, Atlanta Dance Central. The Foster-Schmidt Dance Company for students with Down syndrome partners with SIDEWAYS to present multiple performances each year. The past 4 years I have always been involved with Team Hidi- Giving Kitchen, it's a great event that helps raise money/ provides stability for some of the most hard-working and vulnerable members of our community, restaurant workers. Interesting fact and favorite emoji: A hidden talent I have is I'm very good at baton twirling. Once I started to get really good I started fire baton twirling. I also can do different spins, back and front flips while baton twirling. I was in multiple parades throughout the years. I would say maybe only 5 people know that I can so this. Giving back to our community: I work for Acing Autism - teaching children with autism how to play tennis. I also donate extra florals through my business we have left over from events to local Roswell nursing homes. I participate in multiple local nonprofit events every year. It varies year to year but a few I have been a part of are Polo in the Pines & Cause Ball. I also donate florals to organizations that empower working women. Why Roswell: I moved from California almost 4 years ago. I have been in Roswell for 3 years now. Growing up I had family that lived in Roswell, we would come once a year to visit them. As a young child I fell in love with Roswell. It felt like home. When I was deciding to move to Georgia I knew where I wanted to live & restart Blooming Hites. Roswell, I was instantly at peace with my across country move because I was home.

I didn’t make it, obviously (haha). Needless to say, I let that dream go that day and started pursuing others. Probably a good thing or I wouldn’t have realized my biscuit making skills! I am also crazy obsessed with great white sharks and would love to free dive with one one day! Great piece of professional advice you’ve received and why is it significant to you: Steve Harvey’s inspirational video/speech about jumping is something I listen to often. I love it for a couple of reasons. The first is that Steve Harvey brings to light the idea that struggle brings success. This is something I have figured out on my own and I truly believe it is what differentiates between the successful and the surviving. Many will turn away from struggle and hide in comfort but to reach your potential you have to face obstacles and overcome them. Another reason I love it is because Steve talks about God and his role in all of this. I believe that whether it’s God or the universe or Mother Nature or Allah or whoever, to give acknowledgment and credit to a higher power keeps us humble and kind. This is also crucial to true success.

JONATHON GOLDEN, 25 - Director, Do Good Initiative, nonprofit division of Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee Founder, Do Good Health, www.dogoodhealth.org Giving back and serving others: My full time job is as the director of a nonprofit. Following my undergraduate career, I started an NGO to build medical clinics and provide health services in some of the more remote areas of Rwanda. As I spent time overseas developing the model, I quickly realized that the most effective and sustainable method of approach was to form a direct partnership with the Rwanda Ministry of Health and MIDIMAR (Rwanda disaster management agency). We are building a medical clinic in a community of 30,000+, creating disaster response teams, and initiating an Ebola surveillance train the trainer program in 30 coffee plantations along the coast of Lake Kivu, which separates Rwanda from the DRC. In the creating of all of this, the government of Rwanda has been involved in all aspects to create utmost sustainability. Also, I am on the board of advisors for a local based non-profit called the Surgery Center for Female Genital Mutilation Reconstruction. This NGO flies women who have been mutilated into the surgery center from all over the world, and the U.S., for surgery, rehabilitation, and counseling free of cost. My role is to connect the organization to hospitals overseas for international medical mission trips. Interesting fact:I'm not sure why, but I've always been able to say or spell words backwards, almost instantly, as if I was saying it forwards. Not sure if that's cool or not. Umbrella. Publisher's SOCIAL POST: I spent TWO hours with the new (year-ish) owner Rick Banks of SFX Fitness - Roswell — I normally don’t go much over an hour, especially when it’s my last appointment in a very full day of back-to-back meetings. It flew by! Rick is so easy to talk to, professional, and he comes from a really big family like me. I had never been in SFX; but the first thing I thought walking in was, “Woh! This is so spacious (open and high ceilings) and light-filled and...clean.” There are two types of businesses that I notice rather quickly when they’re super clean: restaurants and gym/fitness centers. And SFX is! The trainers are smart and serious. Rick gave me a tour of the different spaces for classes, machines and weights, and I noticed a woman practicing her sprints in a stretch of track by the windows. They offer 1-on-1 training, as well as semi-private training for between 2-5 clients. National Beer Day is observed annually on April 7th. Celebrate with a pint of pale ale, lager, stout, wheat beer or pale ale. One of the world’s oldest prepared beverages, beer possibly dates back to 9500 BC when cereal was first farmed. It is recorded in the written history of ancient Iraq and ancient Egypt. Beer is the world’s most widely consumed alcoholic beverage. Following water and tea, it is the third most popular drink overall. HISTORY On April 7, 1933, President Franklin Roosevelt took the first step toward ending Prohibition and signed a law that allowed people to brew and sell beer, in the United States, as long as it remained below 4.0% alcohol by volume (ABV). Beer drinkers celebrated and were happy to be able to purchase beer again for the first time in thirteen years. This day was created as National Beer Day by Justin Smith, a Richmond, Virginia Craft Beer Examiner, and his friend Mike Connolly from Liverpool, England. April 7th was chosen because the Cullen-Harrison Act was signed into law and became active on this day. In 2009, Smith and Connolly created a National Beer Day Facebook page. The league consisted of 12 teams, from Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina, finishing with a record of 10-0-1 to take the crown.

Brendan Moore, 26, is a 2010 Centennial High School

graduate and on January 9, 2019 was named goalkeeper of Atlanta United FC, joining the team after playing for three different teams in England. He is the son of Bruce Moore and Monika Frey-Moore of Roswell. He was born in Elmira, N.Y. and enjoys fishing, wake and snowboarding, surfing, reading and (obviously) soccer. His gift of athleticism most likely comes from his grandfather, Albert Moore, who played baseball at St. John's in New York and then with the New York Giants. Brendan was a local star goalie at Centennial High School right here in Roswell and guided the varsity team to a Georgia State Championship in 2009. He was named captain of Centennial varsity in 2010, named to the ESPN Rise 2010 Spring All-America team, selected for the ESPN Rise Top Players list, set the Centennial season record for shutouts with 11 in 2010 and holds Centennial High School record for most career shutouts with 24. After graduation, he signed with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to play collegiate soccer. Moore became the starting keeper for the Tar Heels in 2013 and after two stellar years signed with League One side Fleetwood Town. After a couple of loan stints with Torquay United, Moore transferred to Rochdale from Fleetwood Town in July 2017. Come to historic Roswell on Sunday, April 28 where the pavement along five blocks of Canton Street will be turned into a pedal-pedestrian party. Roswell Moves! returns for a second year, an “open streets” event with activities, games and demonstrations to promote healthy lifestyles for the entire family. Roads used for Roswell Moves! will close to motorized vehicles from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 28. The sections of Canton Street which will be used include the south end of Canton Street from Webb Street and Elizabeth Way to Norcross Street; the north end of Canton Street from Norcross Street and Plum Street to Woodstock Road. “Open streets programs convert a street into a temporary park. Previous to coming on board with my familys company, I was the National Online Strategy Writer for 3 years for the Human Rights Campaign, where I specialized in advocacy and fundraising. I also am very politically involved: I am serving my third term on the Board of Directors for Red Clay Democrats (a state-level PAC) and was the statewide President of Young Democrats of Georgia from 2016-17 (millennial division of the Democratic Party of Georgia). Previously, I served as the Secretary (2015-16) and Communications Director (2014-15) of Young Democrats of Georgia and the Activism Chair (2014) of the Young Democrats of Fulton County (YDATL). I have been a regular volunteer with Roswell-based Children's Restoration Network since 2008. I have taken on many roles, but the largest and most recognizable in the community has been as the committee leader on Roswell Moves! An Open Streets Event. This event was really the first of its kind in Roswell and is modeled after events like Atlanta Streets Alive where the street is closed to car traffic and opened up to pedestrian, bicycle and other non-motorized forms of traffic specifically for the purpose of movement rather than a crowded street full of tents and vendors. I couldn’t have been happier with the 2018 event reception, but the high point was getting to hear from my own kids that is was their favorite Roswell event ever, so I can’t wait for this year’s event! Co-Founder - The Roswell Creekways initiative takes everything I love about Roswell and advocates for more of it! Hiking and Biking trails, preserving our natural and historical assets, and connecting our community. T Giving back: I am involved with the Roswell North Mentoring Program- I started volunteering for the program last year working with a 4th grader, and he is now a 5th grader. During our weekly one on one meeting, we socialize, I provide extra tutoring for schoolwork, or just catch up with whatever is going on in our lives. Getting to spend time with this child in a one on one setting has been a great benefit to both the student and myself. The impact being made with the attention he receives during the meeting is something he lacks at home or in the classroom, and helps to give him that extra confidence boost. Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;m also involved with Roswell Sports Recreation- Over the past two years I have served as a volunteer coach in flag football, soccer, basketball, and baseball. I have found using sports is a great way to provide guidance to kids in teaching them the values of leadership, teamwork, and work ethic. While coaching I like to demonstrate those examples through my own actions. With the young ages of the kids I have coached I also feel the importance of stressing the fun side of sports, and learning something new can carry over to any facet of life. A favorite quote: "Remember me as loving you" which is a phrase my grandfather frequently used up until he passed away a year ago. In his life he was a very successful businessman, but the legacy he left behind that was how well he treated people around him and how he loved his family more than anything else.

CARISA TURNER, 34 - Director of Communications & Public Relations, Roswell Inc On faith: I'm a member of Roswell Community Church and have been for 3.5 years. We believe strongly in the purpose of the local church and are heavily involved in our church community. My husband and I lead a community group, I serve as one of the church's worship leaders, and my husband runs sound on Sunday mornings. On family: My husband and I have been married for 11 years. We have a fouryear-old daughter and two twin boys that are due in June 2019. On giving back: Outside my involvement in our church, the primary nonprofit I've volunteered with over the past several years is World Relief Atlanta, which is one of the designated refugee resettlement agencies in Georgia. They are based in Stone Mountain, but serve communities throughout the area. I helped them launch an email newsletter, hosted a documentary screening and donation drive for the organization, and have participated in multiple advocacy days at the state capitol, which included leading a team of volunteers in 2018. I chose this cause several years ago during the peak of the refugee crisis in Syria. My heart really connected with this issue and I wanted to get involved to not only support one of the local groups working in this space, but to also become more educated and informed about the topic and bring that knowledge and insight to others. Interesting fact about you: I'm a songwriter, and I would list that as both my hidden talent and interesting piece of information that most people wouldn't know about me. I wrote my first song when I was 13 years old and have been writing ever since. I've recorded and released two EPs (2011 and 2014), a Christmas single (2016), and have received several awards and other accolades for my songs. REMEMBER OAK STREET CAFE? Prepare yourself to be blown away. Its gone, gutted, rebuilt and brand new as The Whiskey Project. I’ve spent the week all up in their business and wow, just wow. Both for what is, what they are now, and for what that staff is capable of in the future. On one hand we have a top class Chef doing wizard work in the kitchen. That is first and key. And I’ll get back to him. On the other we have an inventory of 1,000 plus bottles on a back bar that connoisseurs of whisky, whiskey and ryes that has to be seen to be believed. No one but no one is ever going to top the collection of bottles you have here. Just look at that photo. There are

no repeats on that back bar. None! I’ll call it the best collection on the east coast and dare you to prove me wrong. They call it the whiskey project for a reason. It is fair to say that Andy Stallworth may just be the most knowledgeable person on the subject of all things rye in the state. I couldn’t keep up with what he knows about who, what and where of whisky if I tried. A tragedy caused me to give up drinking. So I can only invite and encourage you to go and find out for yourselves. But! I spent more than enough time inside a bottle to tell you without a doubt that everything from the simple syrup to the complex acids are created by hand, right here. www.30075life.com

It's aging in barrels right on the wall. Physics and chemistry together with experience and time. Ahh memories.... You can see the work they put into every drop in every glass. And that makes all the difference in the world. Take note. Executive Chef Kevin Leveille works in the real. He learned his skills at Seed, the Butcher and Baker, Table n Main and now eight months in and open his kitchen is putting out a standard that will put a challenge to any in town. Hands down, bring it. His pork chop is a challenge that baits you in with the sizzle and never lets go. I ate mine right down to the bone and took the bone home. His salads hearty, with earthy flavors that really feed you. The Potato Leek soup was crushed velvet, creamy and smooth. Every little thing just right and so so good. The sliders are to die for, the venison carpaccio is amazing, And I could go on. But it won’t matter. It's based, as all the best do, on locally, seasonally right, that day fresh products. It's working with farms and farmers in Georgia and Roswell like Smith Farms and the tiny growers. I don’t just like that, I expect it. They reinvent constantly like any fine restaurant does. What’s new, what’s fresh, in season and just right rules the menu. It's our economy perfected, self healing and thriving. Local, local and local. Open for lunch, brunch and dinner. Just a block off 9, it’s right there! A rebuilt, restored, absolutely lovely and tasteful new/old drinking hole and dining room. Loaded with everything I love. Right on Canton Street in the Shops of Plum Tree Village is a surprisingly well rounded, recently redux of a boutique, Belle Mode. Previously it was home to a boho chic shop, but as of 2018, new owner Shannon Kotze revamped the store to be less boho and a bit more chic. Shannon says that Belle Mode began in Buckhead as a way to monetize her shopping habits. Shannon is active in the selection of stock in both the Roswell and Buckhead locations. I must admit that I had never been into Belle Mode previously and my first impression was the variety of styles and occasions that can take you from desk to dinner then onto vacation. While Belle Mode carries well known designers like Donna Karen and Trina Turk, the boutique rounds out the selections with brands like Julie Brown and Drew Clothing. Also noteworthy regarding the store is the jean selection. Belle Mode is well stocked with jeans for any occasion and the staff is well equipped to give advice and can provide full styling assistance. With pinks, oranges, and red hues dominating the boutiques clothing offerings for Spring, one thing that could be overlooked is their selection of accessories. Affordable statement pieces as well as simple polished accessories line the store. Again, the variety and selection of accessories match their clothing choices with something for everyone. Shannon and team have placed a concentrated effort in making Belle Mode a one stop shop. This boutique also

offers a carefully selected shoes that display a wide range in occasion, Tom Ford sunglasses and a small selection of undergarments. I was surprised to find a full selection of camisoles, which is are a rare find in brick & mortar. Belle Mode takes the work out of shopping with carefully selected completed looks for any occasion. If you only have 15 minutes to shop for a look, this is your place.

This year’s Roswell Beer Festival benefiting STAR House Foundation on Saturday, March 23, will feature approximately 400 beers, and a large number of those will be brewed by local crafters who many residents have grown to love and enjoy in downtown Roswell. With a goal to match or beat last year’s donation of $200,000 to STAR House, three local brewers and sponsors are excited about this year’s seventh annual event and look forward to another year of supporting a nonprofit they are thankful to have in their own backyard. GATE CITY BREWING COMPANY “It feels great to be able to participate in an event and with an organization that does so much good,” says Brian Borngesser, who co-founded Gate City Brewing Company with Pat Rains in 2015. “We’re not just running a company, we’re doing something that impacts the people around us.” Borngesser, who was a commercial insurance broker and Rains, met at a Roswell Rotary Club meeting about eight years ago after striking up a conversation about home brewing. After winning a few home brew contests, they decided to open Gate City Brewing, which is named after a City of Atlanta nickname, “Gate City to the New South,” that it received after the Civil War. 60 | Millennials Issue

Their location in Roswell at 43 Magnolia St. opened in February 2017 and they are excited to host a pre and post party at their location the Friday night before the festival and again Saturday night after everything wraps up. Guests are encouraged to bring in a packaged snack to receive 25 percent off of any merchandise. HOLA! Taqueria featured Gate City's newest beer (BroHam) in a beer cocktail calling it Bro-ham Rita, made with el jimador tequila, freshly squeezed OJ, blood orange liqueur and agave. Bro-Ham is GC's tribute to the Cadillac of all margaritas. A traditional Gose, fruited with blood orange and lime to give you that "What the hell happened last night" flavor that you would expect from a good margarita. Break out the dice and usher in the patio weather. 4.5% ABV // cans available in the taproom and where ever Gate City is sold. Citras Maximus is a newer, full bodied lager exclusively hopped with Citra Hops. A huge double dry hop addition adds flavors and aromas that are both tropical and citrusy. This India Pale Lager is perfect patio drinking and an ideal springtime beer with a 5.5% ABV. One of local nonprofit Childrens Development Academy (CDA) bigger fundraisers is the joint St. Patrick's Day party, which is geared to all things green, with proceeds ensuring underprivileged local kids get a great start in school. FROM THE EARTH BREWING COMPANY Tim Stevens, owner of From the Earth Brewing Company, built his brewery and pub at 1570 Holcomb Bridge Road in Roswell because he and his wife, Lisa, wanted to live and work in a community where they could give back to organizations like STAR House. “It was a big focus for us,” he says. “And, STAR House is one of the most important charities because anything with kids is just near and dear to us.”

Stevens was a general manager with Buckhead Life restaurants for about 14 years before opening the brewery. It’s where he met Kevin Rathbun, a legend in the Atlanta food scene, and an investor in the brewery. He opened From the Earth, which also offers a seasonal menu, extensive wine list and craft cocktails, in October 2017 after enlisting help from brew master Kevin McNerney, who started SweetWater Brewery. The name came from Stevens wanting to source as local and organic as possible for his product, leaving as little of a carbon footprint as they can. Live music is very important to the crew at FTE! In fact, they say, “We love it almost as much as Food and Beer!” Their live music Thursday is a series of free events (unless otherwise noted) every Thursday offering some of the best local and regional acts in the country. Music starts around 6:30 and goes until 9:30 (perfect for a school night!).

Stevens is excited about participating in the beer festival for the second year in a row. “The fact that this is in our own backyard is really special,” he says. “We’re doing two casks, as well as pouring eight to 10 of our house beers, which is way more than we usually do.” FTE is one of a handful of the best places to hear live bands in Roswell, and the only place on the Eastside. Roswell has many places to have a bite and enjoy live music, but a few restaurants (Grub Gastropub, Houck's Grille) are a bit more serious about it. Check out this list of bands / musicians from just the last several weeks: - most were part of their Thursday Live Music Series: Grove Fetish, Tyler Neal Band, Donna & Ralph, Atlanta Funk Society, Machine Kid, Steven J. Ziegler, Tray Dahl & The Jugtime Ragband, Mark Michelson & Friends, Escape Vehicle, The Broadcast, Seamus O'Jams, The AJC put out it's list of best places to find the "Impossible Burger: the veggie burger that bleeds." A plant-based yummy vegan patty is showing up on menus around Atlanta. And, according to the piece in the AJC, "The Roswell spot keeps it simple with this lunch option, topped with arugula, tomato and Vidalia onion." Tim Stevens launched FTE with local restaurant creds he'd earned over many years operating top restaurants in Atlanta, choosing top notch consultants to guide him, an Atlanta favorite Kevin Rathbun to create the chef-driven, locally-sourced menu and the Brewery Master Kevin McNerny - co-founder of Sweetwater Brewery to mentor the craft experience. When named one of the "Top 50 New Breweries" by Beer Advocate, which for eight years has tracked the rapid growth of the craft brewing industry in the United States, documenting the early successes of beer entrepreneurs from Arizona to Vermont. BA wrote FTE is, "A brewpub with a menu even the most critical gourmand would appreciate." VARIANT BREWING COMPANY Matt Curling, who owns and operates Variant Brewing Company, holds the same sentiment about sharing a homegrown brew. He was born and raised in Roswell and looks forward to the beer festival each year, especially now that he can participate in it as a sponsor and brew master.

“We are closely connected with a few of the people behind the festival, and I know the hours and time they put into it, and we love that it all goes to charity,” he says, adding that they will be donating a cask of their 13 percent Good S’Morning Imperial Stout that is being released at the brewery on St. Patrick’s Day.

He bought a kit of his own and later set up a mini brewery in his basement. “It took over every aspect of my life, so I decided to make a career out of it,” he says. Before opening Variant in 2017, he was a business analyst with New Kent Capital in Roswell. With support from his brother and father, Curling now operates the business with his wife, Lauren. The name comes from having a variety of beers to select from in the tasting room—about 16 at a time—and they have brewed about 110 different flavors since opening. “Variant is also an industry term,” Curling explains. “It’s when a recipe is tweaked to highlight a certain feature. We do a lot of that.”

Variant hosts a lot of community meetings and networking events - their space is open and bright, and there is plenty of parking; so organizations like Roswell Next, Positively Roswell and Roswell Parking Now have attracted more to their events by hosting at Variant. Matt grew up here and seems (to us) to know 'everybody.' From our view, we'd peg him as a loyal, true family and friend guy. Matt and his wife / partner Lauren just recently celebrated the birth of their first son, Liam. Matt must have been absent the day business school had the lesson about competition :-) , because Matt's philosophy is so inclusive, building everyone up for the sake of the City. He is very gracious in partnering up with various restaurants and organizations to host joint promotional events to raise all ships. Recently, VBC held a pop-up restaurant event with Ryan Pernice's Table and Main and also held an epic night of burgers and beer with Gracious Plenty Bakery & Breakfast in their Tasting Room. Of the three, Variant seems to regularly draw the discerning sports watchers, who might not enjoy a typical 'sports bar' atmosphere -- at VBC sports fans can cheer their team, have intellectually stimulating conversation and locally brewed craft beer. Atlanta United games are always on, as well as all the top games one would expect. Cinnamon Roast Brunch is back in the tasting room - a 10% imperial stout brewed with lactose, coconut, and cinnamon. Theoretical Zero Volume 2 recently made waves in the tasting room, brewed exclusively with Sabro hops leading to a tropical and citrus flavor and aroma with heavy notes of pineapple, mango, & coconut.
