Brrrrrrrrrr! Goodness, it’s cold. It’s 15° outside; and the weather app says it’s going to stay in those lows for at least another week. First, we were surprised by an early snowfall, and today we have the coldest New Years Day in 40 years. This January / February 2018 issue marks the beginning of our 4th year publishing Roswell Magazine. With the support of all of our readers, sponsors and advertisers, we continue to write about things that bring us together. Roswell is our home, too. The small-town teams we played were the only high schools in their towns - which meant full home team bleachers. I’m happy to brag Roswell showed up with the same enthusiasm as these others. After the final game, the boys were greeted by police officers and fire fighters, as they exited the bus late at night under a canopy of firetrucks’ extension ladders and siren lights. What a treat! Thank you, Roswell for never losing that sweet, Southern hospitality indicative of a community that cares. Enjoy the annual Restaurant Issue! #EATLOCALLY Warm Regards,

ippolito’s Authentic Italian Cuisine in a Casual, Friendly Atmosphere

January / February 2018
COVER STORY
BY DANIELLE BARTLING
I
It’s impossible to imagine life without Italian food. Fortunately, Roswell is home to one of the five best ristorantes in Metro Atlanta: Ippolito’s. Founded in 1989 by George and Toni Ippolito, this neighborhood-style restaurant has a long history of serving authentic, Italian cuisine. In 1988, after owning two restaurants in Connecticut, the enterprising couple moved south to put down roots in Roswell. The Ippolitos were keen to opening another restaurant that would feature recipes passed down by George’s parents. With active patronage from neighbors, family, friends and the Roswell community, Ippolito’s grew to be a local hotspot for authentic Italian cuisine, and not to mention its emphasis on a “casual, friendly atmosphere.” “We are coming up on almost 30 years in Roswell, it’s been a blessing that we have been embraced by our loyal guests for so long. Nothing is better than seeing the small kids who would come with their parents years ago returning with young children of their own,” says Brandon Ippolito, the current owner and son/stepson of George and Toni. According to Brandon and his father, two of the best dishes on the menu are the Chicken Francese and Tender Fried Calamari. Keep in mind this insider knowledge is invaluable. Brandon adds, “I may be biased, but I think we have the best pizza in town.” The house-made pizza, lasagna, calzones, sandwiches, chicken, veal and seafood dishes are similarly praised menu items, as well as healthily portioned. There are desserts and wines for those less concerned about portions. The irresistible desserts come from another local favorite, Alpine Bakery in Crabapple. In an interview with Atlanta Eats, George called calamari his favorite appetizer and a house signature, but refused to reveal its decades-old secret recipe. It’s “coated and deepfried,” what else do you need to know? This is only a fraction of what Ippolito’s does best. Ippolito’s is especially well-known for its famous garlic rolls-warm and fluffy, enough to make you shed a buttery tear in awe. In the aforementioned interview with AE, George claimed to have spent “about a month” learning the recipe from the 75-year-old grandmother of a friend who owned a similar Italian restaurant in Fort Lauderdale. It’s obvious he made the right decision. The garlic rolls are unforgettable. For your special occasions, the Roswell Ippolito’s offers the continued on p12

With two Ipp’s locations already in Alpharetta and Woodstock, there is soon to be a third on Canton Street in Roswell. Ippolito’s other locations are Kennesaw, Norcross, Sandy Springs, and Suwanee, but Roswell is where it all began.
Bocce Room, an 800-square-foot private dining room with chef privilege and an optional bar package. This room also seats 96 people (or standing, 120), and has an internet-capable 120-inch LCD projection TV for presentations or videos. The Bocce Room is the perfect setting for rehearsal dinners, corporate events, banquets, receptions, holiday parties, anniversaries, bat mitzvahs and bar mitzvahs (as listed on website: thebocceroom.com). The Ippolitos credit much of their success to the community itself. Brandon says, “With a lot of hard work and support from the people of Roswell and the surrounding areas, we quickly became the go-to stop for meeting up with and running into neighbors, friends and family. Our guests became my parents’ extended family.” Not only are guests treated like family, but so are the employees. Unlike many restaurants, Ippolito’s maintains a low turnover rate and high spirits for the future. Its wild success has encouraged two new brick-and-mortar locations, aptly named, Ipp’s Pastaria & Bar. It’s a fresh take on the original Ippolito’s

“I have called Roswell home for the past 13 years and enjoy everything Roswell has to offer. We feel a close bond with the city and like to give back to our local schools, public safety officers, and the Star House Foundation,” says Brandon. He adds, “Oh, how time flies when you’re doing what you love. And like my father says, ‘there is great pride in cooking what your mother taught you and making sure tradition is not lost.’”DB The Star House Foundation is a local non-profit after-school tutoring/mentoring program for at-risk youth. www.starhousefoundation. org. www.ippolitos.net

Fellow foodies, fear not! The 2018 Roswell Restaurant Week is fast approaching, and that means prix fixe menu offerings at some of our community’s finest eateries. The 3rd annual event takes place over ten days from January 22-31, and is sponsored this year by Gas South, with Angie Webb Photographer and Nimble (a design consultancy firm) acting as “Collaborating Creative Partners.” The event is presented by Roswell, Inc (www.roswellinc. org), which is the economic development organization for the City of Roswell. It promotes the advantages of doing business in Roswell by facilitating connections which draw more businesses and jobs here. Roswell Inc recognizes restaurants are key economic drivers

and job creators, attract new residents and tourism, and improve quality of life. In 2013, restaurants ranked # 1 in the category of “Total Employees by Establishment Type” in Roswell. (Applied Geographic Solutions, 1000 Oaks, CA) One of Roswell Inc’s initiatives is the Roswell Restaurant Alliance, which was formed to give local restaurant owners a collaborative voice to address needs and concerns for the restaurant community. Smaller Operations and a Marketing Committee were formed to address issues important to local restaurant owners. Within the context of this alliance, Roswell restaurant owners are able to support and promote one another. “Our restaurant community is at the very heart of one of our top five industries in the city—food and hospitality,” said Steve Stroud, executive director of Roswell Inc. “This event is designed to support and strengthen this industry by showcasing all the unique dining options we have in Roswell, while inviting both locals and newcomers to experience our continued on p16

O
It’s Time to Consider a river cruise
Oceans take you to the countries. Rivers take you through the countries! River cruising has become popular with discerning travelers who enjoy the intimate experience of cruising within the heart of the globe's most quaint regions. Cities were historically built around rivers, especially in certain regions of Europe. Experience the river cruising phenomenon, and discover 5-star service, exquisitely designed staterooms, delectable cuisine, and masterfully planned shore excursions – all included! With river cruises you can enjoy exceptional all-inclusive value. Also, guests can enjoy added amenities such as the use of bicycles and Nordic walking sticks to explore destinations at their own pace. Shore excursions are not only included with your cruise, but are also hosted by expert English speaking local guides who enthusiastically share their passion and insight. When onboard, you can relax in your comfortable surroundings, dine al fresco, or enjoy a glass of regional wine or beer as you take in the divine scenery.
River cruise lines are not just intimate because they're smaller ships, but also because they voyage through the heart of quaint towns where you can experience a slice of history, gaze at castles, or truly experience insightful encounters with local cultures and heritage. Most of the fine cuisine onboard is prepared with local ingredients, as well as regional specialties that are often featured. You can enjoy enriching experiences with local talent featured every night, as well as shore excursions that take you to the region's finest vineyards, patisseries, markets, or iconic venues. Step back in time and make your way on an unforgettable journey. River cruise lines can take you into the heart of towns and ancient marketplaces. There are extensive itineraries available in regions such as Europe, Asia, Egypt, Africa and more, with special attention to detail and exclusive access to ports that large cruise lines cannot reach. Navigate historic byways and waters, as you experience truly authentic cultures; and make lasting friendships, both onboard and on shore, with the vacation of a life. For more information on river cruising, attend Expedia CruiseShipCenters’ Wave Season Travel Expo on January 9 from 5pm-8pm at 725 West Crossville Road (next to PITA Mediterranean Street Food) or call 770-415-1030 anytime!

Roswell Real Estate Market Update
HOME VALUES AND INTEREST RATES ARE TRENDING UP By Geoff Smith, Mortgage Banker Assurance Financial
E
EVERYONE WANTS TO BUY A HOME AT THE PERFECT intersection of low home values and low interest rates. Since November 2012, rates and home values have risen steadily. Interest rates were low because the Federal Reserve enacted ‘easy money’ policies. Home values were down because no one wanted to buy a house. The Fed has since pulled back on its stimulus. These days, to see how mortgage interest rates are doing, follow the stock market. Typically, when it goes up, interest rates go up with it. Home values have gone up because of simple supply and demand. We’ve averaged more than 90,000 people moving to the metro Atlanta area every year for at least the last four years. And we average about 23,000 new-home starts a year. It’s easy to see how inventory under $400,000market has shrunk to the lowest since they started counting. With more people bidding on fewer houses – home values are rising quickly. In the over $400,000-home market, the story is the opposite. There are more houses than buyers, and prices are stabilizing. I stopped predicting interest rate movements a long time ago. There are too many variables. But if the economy keeps growing with no surprises, you could expect rates to rise up toward 5% by the end of 2018.(Best execution on a conventional loan today is about 4% according to Mortgage News Daily). Home values are what you should be more concerned about. They are rising between 5% and 10% a year in some markets. The way the wind is blowing, there is no better time to buy than right now. GS Geoff Smith focuses on residential loans for refinances and home purchases. A gift card ( pre-online shopping ) might have meant you didn’t care enough to think of something more special. Or, you picked it up on the way to the party because you forgot to buy a gift altogether. This is no longer the case. Your modern-minded loved one is secretly hoping for a gift card this year. Remember those TV shows in which guests get $500 to go on a shopping spree? Me too. There’s just something about have a set amount of money to spend on whatever I want. It’s even fun to try to make the dollar amount go as far as possible -- looking for sales so I can get more out of it. Giving a gift card might mean I miss out on the “oooohs” and “ahhhhhhs” which accompany opening a “real” gift. That whole “giving feels good to the giver” thing. But isn’t that a bit selfish? If you’re still hesitant about gift cards, simply follow a few rules to make it a little more personal:
1. WRAP IT. I like to wrap them in a small box, with ribbon
and a Hershey’s Kiss. Don’t just stick it inside a card or buy a
24
standard gift-card-box. Fancy wrapping prolongs the opening process and even gets me my “ooooohs” and “ahhhhhhs.” 2. SOMETHING SPLURGY. Choose an item or service she might not splurge on with her own paycheck. A spa, gourmet grocery store, her favorite salon, a bookstore that sells real books, pricey coffee, a maid service, full car detail, her favorite expensive restaurant or the one at which she meets her best friend for lunch. In essence you’ll be saying, “I know you wouldn’t spend this money on yourself, but I think you’re worth it.” 3. GIVE LOCALLY. Spending dollars locally is good for our local economy ( more jobs, small business owners’ families, sales tax ) A gift card from a local boutique, restaurant she’s always wanted to try, local spa, tickets to a show, framed art, contemporary glamour photo session or movie tickets is a win-win for everybody. Giving with some local specificity is a better bet than just a general VISA or MC. 4. A MUSHY CARD. It is Valentine’s Day, you know. So, write something sweet. No less than three thoughtful sentences. A $5 Hallmark card with 3+ sentences will be saved, to be read again (and again) later.

Build A Winter Home for a Local Fairy
Before building shelter for a Roswell fairy, tour the Enchanted Woodland Trail at the Chattahoochee Nature Center now through February 28 2018, to determine what she absolutely must have in her home. www.chattnaturecenter.org

BY CLAIRE MURPHY
Dress up a dull, winter landscape and build a fairy house. It’s cold outside. And, a fairy needs a warm place to sleep. Children (adults, too!) love this imaginative project, spending days crafting a single house or entire fairy towns. Items can be found lying around the yard. HOW TO MAKE A FAIRY HOUSE 1. Imagine your fairy house. Fairy houses can be short and fat, taller and skinny, simple and cottage-y, ornate and castle-y, rounded and soft, or angular and dramatic. 2. Decide what to build the house out of. You can use a milk carton, a birdhouse, cardboard, wood, or twigs. 3. Gather materials: leaves, mosses, branches, pebbles, acorns, dried grasses, and other natural items to decorate the house. If you plan to glue the house together, make sure the materials are dry; glue won’t stick to anything wet. 4. Where? You need a strong foundation. Near a tree stump? Some even build them in a container garden. 5. Make the walls and roof from branches or bark; cover with dirt like a rounded hobbit-house. Add moss to make a
26
thatched roof. Leave a hole for the door and a chimney. 6. Interior Design. Create an inside world for the fairy. 7. Curb Appeal. Press a few pebbles into the dirt leading to the door to make stepping-stones. Use other items to create walkways, trees, flower beds, windows, swings, porches. 8. Sprinkle some glitter around the house to attract a fairy’s attention or put an acorn cap bowl of ginger on the table. Fairies love crystallized ginger. 9. Add a pinch of extra-strong belief, and she is almost guaranteed to come, even if you don't see her. Before getting started, an industrious builder must first stroll the Enchanted Woodland Trail at the Chattahoochee Nature Center (CNC) through February 28 2018, to determine what a fairy wants in her home. A fairy can be very particular. If you don’t build a home she likes, she may not come. Because the CNC is such a perfect spot for a fairy to make her home, lots of Roswell fairies have been busy building their new fairy houses along the Kingfisher Pond Trail all winter. These whimsical dwellings are typically camouflaged and tucked in sheltered nooks along the garden’s paths. There is magic down by the river in Roswell. Slow down, look closely, and don’t miss these tiny structures. “Get imaginative this winter and create your own Fairy House in our Free Play Area while you are here,” encouraged Jon Copsey, Marketing Manager at CNC. going all-out for green living Local Builder Takes Environmental Responsibility Seriously BY CLAIRE MURPHY
The Green Expo Returns to Roswell Area Park for the 8th year on February 24, 2018. This event showcases local people, businesses and organizations who value environmental responsibility and support green, sustainable lifestyles. Green Expo’s mission is to educate residents about “green” practices they can incorporate into their lives and homes. This free, family-friendly event will feature a Green Market, Family-friendly cooking demonstrations, a DIY rain barrel workshop, a “SuperPals” puppet show for the kids, an Earth balloon, a “Green Yourself” photo booth, pet adoptions, Fulton’s “Wheel of Water” game and more. The Green Market will be showcasing many local and regional green - focused organizations and a diverse array of environmentally friendly services and products. We learned about the Green Expo from the owners of Cadmus Construction who are designing and building Weatherford Place off Minhinette Drive a block from Canton Street in downtown Roswell. They are building the types of homes which exemplify green values. From start to finish, each home erected in Weatherford Place appears to us to have environmental responsibility as it’s primary objective. Each home in Weatherford Place provides a low maintenance and low overhead investment. Indoor air/water quality, enhanced natural light, fortified construction, age-in-place design, and smart home technology are all set in a walkable community in the heart of Roswell’s historic, dining and shopping district. Green details have been meticulously designed into each home. We were so impressed with the builder’s commitment to green living. They do not just “talk the talk” by simply throwing in a couple of marketable environmentally friendly options. The following descriptions of the homes’ features prove they most certainly “walk the walk.”
28
The open floor plans and outdoor living spaces have clean, bioethanol fireplaces . The homes are designed w/Passive Solar performance and integrated leading technologies to deliver Solar PV for free electric power, Solar Thermal for free hot water, Natural Light Harvesting, Rainwater Harvesting, Age-In-Place design and a fully transferrable 10yr home warranty. Controlled indoor air quality means relief from allergies, asthma, emphysema and other respiratory issues. From terrace to lofts and solar roofs, your building envelope is completely sealed. Optimally engineered high performance HVAC systems provide enhanced comfort at lower operating costs. Solar PV/Thermal systems offset demand resulting in substantially reduced utility bills. All building materials are documented low to Zero VOCs. Central Vac systems are externally vented eliminating recirculation of dust/airborne particulates. Zurn® Pex plumbing systems ensure sealed closed loop delivery of fresh water without fear of contamination from metals. Daylight harvesting with Solatubes®, light ledges and floor plans designed for enhanced daylighting, diminish artificial light demand. Fortified construction, a Cadmus standard, is inherent in the building design/engineering. Full drainage plains, Superior Wall® foundations w/lifetime warranties, wind load/uplift details to Miami-Dade standards, foundations to Seismic Class C standards, Radon exhaust systems, storm-water management systems and safe rooms for safety and managing extreme weather risks. All systems are third party inspected/measured/rated. Every Weatherford Place home has earned Platinum Level LEED for Homes Certifications with the best ratings ever recorded coast-to-coast. Right here in Roswell, Weatherford Place by Cadmus is “Building A Better Environment”. Come out to the Roswell Green Expo on February 24th to learn more about what each of these environmentally friendly features mean for healthy living. LOCAL HIGH SCHOOLS
Don’t Clash with the Titans A Championship Win for Roswell’s own Blessed Trinity Catholic High School
R
By Grant Swanson
ROSWELL’S OWN BLESSED TRINITY CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL TITANS (btcatholic.org) PREVAILED 16-7 OVER RIVAL MARIST SCHOOL WAR EAGLES DECEMBER 15. This ended an already impressive season for BT and secured the AAAA high school football championship. Early snowfall postponed the game and prevented the players from a chance to play in the new Mercedes Benz stadium. The Titans spent their four-week playoff run on the road. They opened with a blowout performance in a 35-0 triumph over Oconee County. In round two, BT made a last-minute touchdown drive against last year’s champion, Cartersville, winning 21-17 - setting the pace for the rest of the post-season. The quarter- and semi-final games were won with similarly brutal aplomb, the former against Thomson with a final score of 4313, and the latter against Mary Persons with a 28-7 final. In the beginning of the season, BT was not expected to finish so strong. “All 5 starting offensive linemen and 3 defensive linemen are first-year starters,” said McFarlin. BT finished with a 12-2 record, ironically losing to Marist in Titan territory in the regular season. After that loss to Marist, McFarlin said, “Our players made a conscious effort to get better each week.” With two Atlanta area Catholic high schools vying for the title, Archbishop Wilton D. Gregory led over 6,000 spectators in
36
prayer. Both team captains and the athletic directors of each school—Marist’s Tommy Marshall and BT’s Ricky Turner—took a knee to pray the Our Father, which was a first for a state of Georgia sanctioned championship game. Indicative of Head Coach Tim McFarlin’s leadership, the Titans remained consistent in the final game. Both teams’ defenses made efforts to resist opposing offenses early, with a punt apiece during the first two series. BT quarterback Jake Smith launched a deep pass to wide receiver Ryan Davis which set them up for a touchdown early in the second quarter, putting the first numbers on the board. After a scoreless third quarter, in which both teams missed field goal opportunities, Q4 was defined by continued pressure from the Titan’s defense. Marist’s first possession was capped off with a punt from their own one-yard line, giving the Titans the ball on the Marist 45. In less than three minutes, BT widened the lead in a three-yard run by Steele Chambers for another touchdown. Though Marist got on the board with 3:37 left in the game and forced the Titans to punt on their next drive, BT lineman Raleigh Barden sacked Marist QB Chase Abshier in the War Eagle end zone for a safety, clinching the 4-A championship for Blessed Trinity, the 13-year-old school’s first state championship trophy. BOOM (er) TOWN Roswell has had a sharp increase in the 55+ and independent living options in Roswell.
Embracing New Advent BY DEBRA BOICE
N
Nine years have passed since I officially earned the title, “senior;” but truthfully this milestone did not fully sink in until I found myself signing up for an AARP class being held at Park Place at Newtown. That’s when it struck me, “OMG I R 1 2 LOL.” It sounds silly now; but many of us are taken aback when the day inevitably arrives we may now wear the “senior” label, join AARP, and enjoy senior discounts. Embracing the mindset of acceptance has been key for me. I entered the lobby area at Newtown and paused when I heard beautiful singing coming from down the hall. The Activities Director told me it was the “Park Place Social Singers” group. I joined the group that day! Robin and Tom Yackley lead the Park Place Social Singers group; and Tom’s mother comes to sing with the group on Tuesdays. When I overheard Tom talking about hosting a
38
group sing-a-long at Brookdale Chambrel - Roswell’s memory care unit (www.brookdale.com), I eagerly asked if I could come, too. Thus, my new adventure expanded. This experience has opened my world in ways I hadn’t imagined. The power of the music and the joy in the faces of those participating are inspirational to me. As the residents at Brookdale sang with us, they laughed heartily and their smiles brightened. It was a wonderful experience! For a moment, Teresa and I locked our eyes; and this felt to me like our souls were singing to each other. My new friend Ardis Sly Coe has lived in Brookfield Country Club (www.clubcorp.com) for three decades. Music has been her “whole world” for over 80 years. With a degree in vocal performance and her natural ability, Ardis was able to perform professionally for many years. Later in life, she was fortunate to sing with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus and continues today singing with many local groups for the fun of it. It was apparent to me she too is “young at heart.” I felt a connection with Ardis as I listened to the sound of her voice. She exuded such positive energy. She told me, “Music and singing have given me a rich life.”

tures I believe each of us is given an “Earth Suit” for our life’s journey on this planet. As years pass, we learn the age or condition of our “Earth Suit” does not have to define or limit us. Some of us might be more Velveteen Rabbit-ish; but that’s what makes connecting with others who are sharing this stage of life so gratifying. In our “golden years,” it’s the golden soul who reflects light for the rest of us as we move forward into tomorrow’s adventure. I am grateful I stepped out of my comfort zone and took my first step embracing my “senior” status. Singing with this group is an excellent adventure. The vibration, tempo and various pitches of the music keep me feeling “young at heart.” DB DEBRA BOICE is one of our new columnists at LLP, writing about generational topics from firsthand experiences. She designs circular gardens, which are safe for honey bees, kids and pets. She loves all creatures great and small.

Make One Change
Just do it. make (& Keep) one new year’s resolution in 2018.
T
BY CLAIRE MURPHY
The most common New Year's resolutions generally include: exercise more, lose weight, drink less, stop smoking and eat healthily. Often we don't keep our resolutions simply because they're not specific enough. Choosing specific, science-backed resolutions can boost our chances of success in 2018. We don't need to attempt everything at once. This year let’s just pick ONE resolution. And if we get off track, there’s always Lent, which begins on Valentine’s Day (so ladies, don’t give up chocolate). We can begin again, with ten more months left.
SLEEP
Research shows getting enough sleep makes it easier to avoid cravings, keep off excess weight, and maintain psychological health. We really can't get by on six hours of sleep. To improve sleep, experts recommend consistency, improving environment and cutting out screens before bed.
MOVE
Exercise resolutions are common, and here’s why: Along with fixing our sleep, there's little that will have such a transformative effect on our lives than daily exercise. Getting into the habit of exercise takes practice. Exercise provides such a laundry list of physical and mental health benefits that it's basically the closest thing we have to a wonder drug.
EAT
An abundance of research supporting the idea that if you were to try to cut back on one popular ingredient, it should be sugar. An even simpler approach experts favor is switch to eating "real food," - nothing processed, preserved, or pre-prepared.
DRINK
We could cut back or eliminate sodas from our diets. Much of the average person's sugar intake comes from what they drink. When it comes to booze, moderation is the safest best. Don’t worry about coffee this year, guys. In many ways, coffee is associated with better health. CHILL OUT There are certain times when we might be able to grind away at a project for hour after hour, but we can't do that all the time. Most people who want to be more productive at work should learn to take breaks. And there's psychological evidence that reading — perhaps especially literary fiction — can make it easier to empathize with others plus feel better about ourselves. We must believe we will succeed. Keeping our minds right can prove trickier than making any actual changes because our minds resist change, fighting to maintain the status quo – even if it is something we don’t want in our lives anymore. Seriously, we are in charge of our own minds. With practice, we can adapt the way we think about anything. Above all, let’s act like grown-ups in 2018 and take responsibility for ourselves. Making healthy lifestyle choices is rewarding. But this year let’s just pick ONE thing, then go live our normal lives. It’ll be ONE step towards a better 2018. CM

Bob Farley, GET Co-founder and local theatre icon passed away in November. (Photo by Curtis Compton, courtesy Georgia Ensemble Theatre)
Bob Farley BY CLAIRE MURPHY
Less than a month after he and his wife Anita accepted a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Suzi Bass Awards, Georgia Ensemble Theatre’s (GET) legend Bob Farley passed away unexpectedly. Robert J. (Bob) Farley, 69, Co-founder and Artistic Director of GET was a passionate leader, a committed artist, but most importantly a much beloved husband, father, and grandfather. In memory of Bob, GET has established the Robert J. Farley Memorial Fund. The local theater community shared condolences. Ann-Carol Pence, co-founder and associate producer of Aurora Theatre recalls , “Bob was one of Anthony’s [Rodriguez, cofounder and producing artistic director] and my greatest mentors when we were starting out.” Alan Kilpatrick, who will be taking over as artistic director of the company in the spring, said, “His passing diminishes theater in Atlanta. I believe Bob had the largest heart and had more respect for theater artists than any producer I’ve ever worked with.” GET released a statement honoring Farley professionally and personally. “Bob was a person of many talents and interests. He kept his hands on the reins and his shoulder to the wheel for 25 years at Georgia Ensemble Theatre, and at the Alliance Theatre and Alaska Repertory Theatre before that. His leadership and influence were truly something special.” CM January / February 2018
