ANOTHER NEW YEAR...
ROSWELL MAGAZINE is published by Local Life Publishing, LLC. 980 Birmingham Road, 501-286, Milton, GA 404-606-0797 • locallifepublishing.com info@locallifepublishing.com PRESIDENT Chris Smith
I want to eat right --- I’m not talking about calories, though. I’m talking about eating RIGHT--- real food, organic, locally sourced, whole, yummy, etc. Saying good-bye to processed nonsense and hello to the good stuff. This is easy to do in Roswell with so many options at restaurants--and markets in order to prepare quality meals at home.
VICE-PRESIDENT / PUBLISHER Regina Gulick
You’ll notice this issue is centered primarily around food and fitness. Good food. Talented, award-winning chefs in independently owned restaurants source delicious meats and vegetables to serve up fabulous meals right down the street. Roswell Restaurant Week is fast-approaching, January 25 - 31st. Turn to page 36 to find out which local establishments are lined up to participate at press-time.
ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT Sarah Mabal
Shannon Gowland (new columnist for RM!) is owner/operator of Roswell Farmers Market on Holcomb Bridge Road. If you haven’t already, be sure to drop in for fresh meats, seafood, organic produce and custom-prepared meals to take home. Shannon writes in this issue on page 20 about the importance of getting enough water in our diets. As the cover indicates, yoga can be an instrumental part of an overall well-being and fitness routine. Ahoo Sarab, who owns Korsi Yoga off Canton Street, reminds us how important it is to breathe, listen, be still and stretch ourselves. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know we just came out of an extremely emotional high-school football season. We have word from Mayor Jere Wood expressing our community’s sentiments on page 8 - as well as an eloquently penned letter which made the rounds on social media written by local dad Tai Anderson. Enough out of me. Keep turning the pages. And please email me your story ideas, feedback, criticism or to simply say, “hello!” HAPPY NEW YEAR!

GOVERNMENT FROM THE DESK OF
R
MAYOR JERE WOOD
ROSWELL MAY BE a city of 95,000 people,
but it still has a small town spirit and soul. Roswell showed its small town spirit in December when we sent two high school football teams from our city to the state championship games, Blessed Trinity in class AAA and Roswell High in class AAAAAA. Over 15,000 Roswell Hornet fans went to the Georgia Dome on Saturday December 12th to root for their home team, and almost as many were there the night before to cheer for the Blessed Trinity Titans, and thousands more watched the games on TV. I was extremely proud that my city sent two teams to the state football finals in the same year, something no other city in Georgia has done. Team sports don’t just unite athletes, they bring every fan closer together. When the team is playing for a city, they bring the entire city closer together. Roswell is blessed to have great schools, great teams, and state champions in every sport, including baseball, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, track, gymnastics, golf and tennis. This is just one of the reasons people love Roswell and why our city is a great place to live.
Thank you Roswell High School, Blessed Trinity, and all of the athletes, coaches, parents, and fans of all of Roswell’s teams and for keeping Roswell’s small town spirit strong. JERE WOOD, Mayor of Roswell - the best place to live in Georgia!

ONE ROSWELL:
S
BY TAI ANDERSON
An Open Letter to My Roswell Football Family
I SAT IN THE GEORGIA DOME speechless
last night as the final seconds of the clock expired on an incredible season for the Roswell Hornets’ Football team. If just wanting something badly enough could determine an outcome, my desire alone would have secured the championship for our boys. Throw in all of your enthusiasm, and it would be a slam dunk (mixing metaphors already.) But, it wasn’t enough. It wasn’t about our desire for the championship. It was about 48 minutes of football on the field. Colquitt just played better. That night, they were the better football team. I’m a football dad. Therefore, I could armchair quarterback the reasons why; the momentum robbing calls that didn’t go our way, the missed tackles, and the mismatches. Then, there’s the politics; What if there was no Cambridge, and redistricting hadn’t harvested talent from our team? What if there weren’t 2 other football programs less than a mile from our school also pulling from the same talent pool? But, what’s the point? The game has been played. We were not victorious. Then, the really dark thoughts entered my mind. I wanted to vilify our opponents, specifically the Colquitt County Coach, Rush Probst. My mind was filled with hurtful things to say, highlighting his past indiscretions. Slowly, and it has taken me all night, I’ve decided to not feed those thoughts or make those jokes. Isn’t the essence of Christian faith God giving us second chances? Imagine the shame he must have felt years ago as everything was unraveling in Hoover, Alabama. What an amazing comeback. I don’t want to mock his past. I want to celebrate his amazing turnaround. Which one of us couldn’t use a little grace now and again? It’s taken quite a bit of humbling prayer, but I truly want the best for his future. Also, I wouldn’t mind him moving on up to college coach-
10
ing, and giving the rest of the state a fighting chance! He is really good. After the game, I drove up to Ray Manus stadium to meet the busses and pick up my son. It wasn’t a pep rally. There were maybe 20 of us, but we lined the sidewalk just as hundreds of us had done to send the team off to the Dome. I clapped until my hands were bruised as the stunned Hornets walked to the field house to drop off their gear, some of them for the final time. I didn’t know what to say. So, I just rotated between “Thank you,” “I’m proud of you” and “Let’s go Hornets.” I’ve thought of some things I’d like to say. In my time with Third Day, we received some incredible accolades, none bigger than the 4 Grammys we won for Rock/Gospel Album of the Year. What doesn’t make the press clippings are the 8-10 times we made it to the shortlist of consideration and didn’t receive the award. I’ve experienced winning the ultimate honor for my field, but losing it as well. I’m a competitive person. I always want to win. But, I’ve had to learn through both successes and shortcomings that taking the prize is only bonus. The real win with Third Day was when we made songs that impacted people’s lives. My favorite memories from my time with the band are the times of struggle with my friends before it became a business; when it was a joy, not a job. My favorite accomplishments are written on the hearts of people’s lives that were touched by our songs, not etched on Grammy Awards, now being used as paper weights. I wholeheartedly agree with Mark Richt’s final words as a Bulldog. “Life is about people, not rings. Rings collect dust,” Mark Richt I want to speak to three seperate groups; the senior football players, the coaches and players of next year’s team, and the community at large. SENIORS: One of you tweeted out “I suck” last night. That’s the worst kind of trash talk. You need to remove that kind of thinking

from your mind. What you guys have accomplished this year is amazing. You brought a contagious joy to our community. I’ve watched youth football players play pickup games at the Rec pretending to be you. There are a lot of kids looking up to you right now, and you have a city full of people who have your back and want the best for your future. Take a day and lick your wounds, but then it’s time to pick yourself up and make the most of your remaining time in Roswell. What did Coach Ford teach you after every win? He taught you that the past was the past. He taught you to think of your record as “0-0.” Guess what? You’re “0-0.” Failure isn’t falling, it’s staying where you fell. Pick yourself up, and go do great things. Find a way to give a little back to this community that has supported you before you leave. This is the gift that you guys have earned; You will always have a home. We’ll be cheering many of you on in your football careers, but for all of you, we’ll be cheeringyou on in life. Your city will be here to help you find a job after college, and many of you will return with your families to raise them in this community as well. You are always welcome here. Make the most of these last few months here. Connect with your home. COACHES AND PLAYERS: The sign that hangs above the exit of the Roswell Field House. This sign is just as true today as it has been all season. When you look at the
talent you’ll graduate, I know the future can feel daunting. But guess what, you don’t need to fill their shoes. You just need to be the best you that you can be. That’s what the slogan means. If you didn’t like the feeling of being on the sidelines watching time expire with nothing to do about it, guess what, next year is your turn to do something about it. Maybe it will be for a state title, maybe a region title, maybe a Milton rivalry game. The size of the stage is not the issue. It’s about deciding right now who you will be in your moment. You can let this year’s success lull you to complacency or you can start training now, harder than anyone else in the state. It’s time for you guys to commit to one another as brothers that ego and laziness will not be tolerated. Who will step up and lead? Only you can answer your challenge, but you’re enough. COACHES: I have one request for you. Just keep doing what you’re doing. Keep teaching our sons that being an athlete is temporary, but being a man of integrity is forever. Keep cursing at them, and praying for them, and scolding them, and setting the bar high. Keep loving them. Keep inspiring them to bring their best, and not tolerating less. Keep showing them that real masculinity is showing emotion, not masking it. This community appreciates you. We’re grateful for you. Don’t second-guess yourself because of the scoreboard. (That’s our job!) FRIENDS: Our community had two teams come up short in the championship games
this weekend at the Dome. However, our community did not come up short. I woke up today prouder than ever to be a Roswellian. The energy at the tailgate before the game was incredible. How can we keep that going for every game next year? There is more to this “One Roswell” idea than just a slogan for mutual fandom in our community. I humbly submit that it is a new slogan for what this community can be. Will we let anybody divide us by racial lines? No. In Roswell, there is no black and white, only green. We love our diversity. Will we let anybody divide us on religious lines? No, we are One Roswell. Protestant, Catholic, Jew or Muslim, we are One. We’re all raising our kids together, and our values aren’t just lived out in our houses of worship. Will we let anybody divide us on political lines? No, we are One Roswell. I know it might sound dramatic to extrapolate so much from a football season. But, I believe that we can build from this season to make our city an even better place to be. Let’s actively support Roswell businesses. Let’s care for our neighbors across the street. Let’s not sleep through another election. Let’s find ways to make our park system even better. Let’s keep making all of our schools the best in the state. Let’s make Canton Street the hottest place to be in the Southeast. The world might be a scary place, but Roswell isn’t. It’s home. It’s our home. We are One Roswell.

Historic Roswell Business Association
L
BRINGING POSITIVE CHANGES TO OUR COMMUNITY
LOCAL INFLUENCERS AND businesses combine their efforts to support the revitalization of Roswell’s Historic District
The Historic Roswell Business Association (HRBA) is an organization dedicated to revitalizing the longstanding contributions of the now dissolved Historic Roswell Merchant’s Association. The members of the newly developed organization plan to enable the businesses of Roswell’s Historic District to work together in a spirit of collaboration with Roswell’s government and non-government agencies to promote the growth, development, and economic prosperity of the downtown Roswell community. The Historic Roswell Business Association will work together to uphold its mission statement of “promoting the goals of the Historic District’s business owners to the city of Roswell, North Fulton County, and our customers present and future.” The HRBA represents the Historic District by overseeing five separate geographic “zones,” each with an elected representative to the Executive Council. Canton Street will be managed by Ann Marie Giglio of Core Matters, Webb Street by Shannon Schneider of Synergy Fine Art, Oak Street by Donna McDonald of MUSE
12
& Co. Fine Art, Roswell Square by Kelley Davis of Harry Norman Realtors, and The River by Alissa Reynolds of RAW Juice Boutique. The group’s membership elected Ryan Pernice, owner of Table & Main and Osteria Mattone, as the HRBA’s first Executive Director. “Roswell already has a vibrant community of businesses here in the Historic District. Our hope is that the HRBA adds an element of cohesive teamwork so that our businesses act as partners, all pulling in the same direction, for the betterment of Roswell’s development,” says Pernice. “We will continually ask ourselves how we can work together to make downtown Roswell more exciting for more people. That’s our chief concern.” One of the first tasks for the HRBA will be to develop a unified website that promotes the Historic District, highlights parking options for visitors, and addresses needed infrastructural items like beautification projects and way-finding. In the coming months, the members will be working hard to structure a lasting organization that will bring real positive change to the community of Roswell. Further inquiries regarding the HRBA can be sent to Ryan Pernice at: ryan.pernice@tableandmain.com

The many beautiful and historic churches and special events facilities in Roswell make this decision particularly difficult because there are so many fabulous options! What is your vision? You can choose an historic destination, a wildlife sanctuary, an outdoor garden setting, a scenic backdrop, an antebellum home, a hotel, or an area restaurant with ample space for all of your guests. Roswell has all of this and more, boasting over 40 venue selections for brides and grooms. A great place to start is the Roswell Welcome Center in the center of town, located at 617 Atlanta Street. Riverwalk Village a Key Development for Roswell
N
IN NOVEMBER, DUKE Land Group unveiled
plans for Riverwalk Village, a 104‐acre mixed‐use community located in Roswell between Ga. 400 and Old Alabama Road. The ecologically driven development will add to the growing vitality of Roswell, attract new businesses and jobs, and generate millions of dollars in tax revenue for the city. “Riverwalk Village will be woven seamlessly into the fabric of this unique, historical city,” said Eyal Livnat, principal and president of Duke Homes and Duke Land Group. “We look forward to continuing our collaboration with the City of Roswell and to enhancing a natural setting that residents, workers and visitors can all enjoy.” The preliminary plans follow the guidelines in the City of Roswell’s Unified Development Code (UDC), and the development will include a maximum of: ∙ 1,556 residential units, including single family attached, multifamily and active adult housing ∙ 490,000 square feet of general commercial real estate including retail, restaurant, entertainment and grocery ∙ 1.7 million square feet of office space ∙ 200‐key hotel ∙ 200,000 square feet of civic and institutional space including the Swift School, a school for children with language‐based learning differences Approximately 43 percent of the land will be preserved open space, which will include parks and public spaces, pedestrian‐oriented areas near retail and entertainment, and a system of public running, walking and biking trails that will connect the development and surrounding neighborhoods to the Chattahoochee River. Duke Land Group enlisted a team of architects and land planners who specialize in land preservation and ecological developments.
16
Architectural design will reflect Roswell’s natural environment with warm, earth‐tone colors and materials. “In a location with existing ties to natural features like the Chattahoochee River, we wanted to embrace the topography and build on the substantial network of greenways and waterways that course through Roswell and the immediate region,” said Kevin Sloan, principal land planner. “Our goal is to build a community‐focused development with an ecological purpose.” The property also houses a lake with open channel streams that will meander through the development and provide stormwater control and management. Retailers, restaurants and boardwalks will surround the lake, which provides an added amenity for the public to enjoy. “Riverwalk Village is a key development for Roswell. We have a strong need for Class A office and mixed-use space that offers convenient access to Ga. 400,” said Steve Stroud, executive director of Roswell Inc. “The focus on the connection to the natural environment within Riverwalk Village will truly reflect Roswell’s continued commitment to being eco‐friendly and will be a true city centerpiece that echoes the spirit and authenticity of Roswell.” The proposed site plan, which has been filed and will be reviewed by the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC), smartly positions the school near neighboring residential communities and places the office space adjacent to Ga. 400. Traffic improvements to the Ga. 400 interchange at Holcomb Bridge Road are underway. The developers are continuing to conduct traffic studies and analyze ways to improve access points around the property. Pending zoning and permits, construction is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2015.

#RESOLVE
If You Only Make ONE Resolution in 2016, Make it MORE WATER
It’s a life giving element we all need. Without it, there is no survival.
Shannon Gowland Roswell Food Therapy Chef / Herbalist
T
THE NEW YEAR IS UPON us,
and resolutions are being made once again. Who hasn’t resolved to lose weight, be healthier, stop smoking, or exercise more? Time and time again the most important aspect to the success of these quickly conceived and well-intended resolutions is over looked, water. It’s a life giving element we all need. Without it, there is no survival. However, crucial for so many basic functions, the ways in which we rely on it are often overlooked. Without adequate water intake there will be no weight loss, benefits of eating healthy will not be seen, muscles will be unable to keep up the demands of increased exercise, and the body’s ability to handle increased stress from ditching the nicotine will be minimal. So as a simple suggestion: add a resolution to drink more water so you can be successful in 2016. For most tap water is just fine however, others with sensitivities, allergies, heavy metal toxicity, states of dis-ease, or just trying to lessen the toxic load will need to examine other options. •Whole house filters: These are great options if you can get the right one. Look for a double filtration system. Avoid the RO and alkaline filters. (usually around $400-500 investment) •Under sink filters: Same guidelines as above however, if you are handy then you can skip the call to a plumber and try installing yourself. •On the go filters: My favorite is the Berkey Sport Filter. A water bottle made in the USA, BPA free, and can be filled with any freshwater. Great for camping, taking to the office, travel, and so much more. The main drawback is that there is no fluoride filter on the small sports bottle. •Grab N Go water bottles from the store: This tends to be a quick option requiring no planning but, is it any healthier than water from the tap? Research is showing that many bottled waters are little

Many plastic bottles contain BPA which can leach into the water and be absorbed into the body. Look for better options such as glass or BPA free bottles. •Alkaline water: I am not a fan of alkaline water for drinking except during extreme cases and short term need due to imbalances. Long term use of Alkaline, RO, and distilled water (unless re-mineralized) can lead to mineral leaching. While bacteria and viruses thrive in oxygen depleted, acidic environments and using alkaline water seems like a great idea, you can cause the body to become too alkaline and create an environment in which healthy cells struggle to survive.
The average adult should drink between 1 – 2 liters of water per day. Keeping a 64 oz. mason jar handy or knowing how many ounces your water bottle holds is helpful. Increased water combined with a healthy diet will help you be successful with your New Year Resolutions. So be strong and Stay Healthy Roswell. #RESOLVE:
A
Stretch Yourself in 2016
By AHOO SARAB, Owner, Korsi Yoga, korsiyoga.com
A NEW YEAR, A NEW YOU. What promises will you make for yourself this year to be the best you? Whether you resolve to be kinder, take better care of yourself, be more present in your life...yoga can help make all those promises come true.
While in Western culture, yoga has become an exercise phenomenon, its original charge was developed to be a spiritual practice. Yoga is about the journey within and offers the opportunity to connect your mind, your body, your breath and your spirit. Here are 4 reasons you may want to try yoga in 2016: LEARNING HOW TO BREATHE How you breathe can make an enormous impact on your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. The quality of your breathing oxygenates your body and regulates your nervous system. Learning new ways to breathe can help focus, ease anxiety, reduce blood pressure, and is the fastest, easiest way to be present in the moment. Try it. Anytime your mind wanders, focus on the rise and fall of your belly as you inhale and exhale and notice how your mind and body come together. BEING AN ACTIVE LISTENER Listening and hearing are two different things. Yoga helps you slow down enough from the hustle of your daily life, to listen to yourself. Coming to your mat, engaging in a sequence of postures, creates
24
the practice of active listening. Yoga is a moving conversation with yourself. When you learn to listen to yourself, your body responds by giving back what you need and allows you to hear what you desire. BEING COMFORTABLE BEING STILL While the demands of our daily lives can actively engage us in constant motion, yoga offers us the gift of becoming still. This stillness fosters a deeper connection to the inner voice, allowing you to hear the breath, watch the thoughts and find an awareness of how you connect the two. STRETCHING YOURSELF This is a natural response we have as human beings in our physical bodies. When you practice yoga, you are making a choice to stretch your body and your mind. It may be trying a new pose, or backing out of a pose that just doesn’t feel right to you. Either way, you are stretching yourself. There are many benefits to yoga. Whether you practice everyday or once a week, yoga is like life, ever unfolding to you as you fully engage in it. As with anything new, try it out, don’t push too hard and give it more than one class. Keep your promise to be the best version of yourself in the New Year, roll out a mat and give yoga a chance in 2016!

LOCAL FARMS PROVIDE ROSWELL DINERS WITH FRESH, ORGANIC MEALS
O
AT PEACH & THE PORKCHOP By Debbie Rosen
ONE THING THAT Chuck Staley knew when he
opened Peach & The Porkchop just over a year ago, is that today’s dining guests want to know exactly where their food is coming from and they demand the highest quality, freshest ingredients available. In designing the menu at this Roswell neighborhood restaurant, Staley researched the local farms that he could tap to provide the hormone free, all natural foods that would fit into his North meets South menu. “We found the best local farms with the most responsible practices to supply us with fresh eggs, produce and meats … not only for our adult menus, but for our children’s menu as well,” reflects Chuck. “At most restaurants, the adult menu is filled with garden-fresh ingredients, while the kids are given a choice between frozen chicken fingers or pre-packaged Mac & Cheese. One of our focal points at Peach & The Porkchop is to provide the same high quality ingredients for both adults and children, and that’s why there are more than 20 different farm fresh dishes on our children’s menu,” concludes Staley. The local farms that provide these ingredients are all located within a 25 mile radius of Roswell and are run by local Georgians who take pride in the products they produce. Some of these farms include Circle A Farms in Cumming (hydroponically grown lettuce as well as basil and Kale), Fat Land Farms (our neighbor in Roswell produces non-GMO Eggs, Honey and a variety of pesticide-free produce), Morning Glory Farms in Cedartown (supplies us with
28
Pigs, Chickens and Turkeys as well as Melons, Peaches, Peppers and a variety of fresh Herbs), Maxwell Farms in Dallas, Georgia (fresh jams and preserves as well as pickles and relishes) and Gazaway Farms in Cumming (has wonderful fresh sausage and produce such as Broccoli, Pecans, Carrots, Cabbage and Watermelon). Executive Chef Benjamin Thornton always insures that the meats he’s using to create dishes like Bone-In Cowboy Ribeye are steroid-free, gluten-free, antibiotic-free and hormone-free from Meyer’s All Natural Red Angus Beef to Nueske’s bacon and Chicken from Springer Mountain Farms, Prestige Farms and Mar Jac. Seafood is just the same, relying on relationships with local fisherman and purveyors for the shrimp in their signature Shrimp & Grits. If you know of a great local farm producing wonderful products, please let either Chuck or Chef Benjamin know, next time you’re enjoying a meal filled with these farm fresh ingredients at Peach & The Porkchop. Peach & The Porkchop is located in Roswell at 12040 Etris Road, D100. They are open for dinner Tuesday through Sunday, lunch during the week and brunch on Saturday and Sunday. Four Hot Roswell Restaurants PHOTO: PEACH & THE PORK CHOP
By Tom Maicon
R
ROSWELL HAS PERHAPS the most prolific
dining scene north of the perimeter. In the heart of it is Canton Street, dotted with laid-back little eateries, a sophisticated steakhouse and sushi on the sidewalk — no matter the temperature. That’s how we roll in Roswell. The restaurants are small but the dining vibe is larger than life. So, everybody has a patio. Everybody needs a patio. And they don’t put them in the back of the building or on the side — they put them right out front on the sidewalk. A single Sunday brunch casually sipping and noshing at a lazy sidewalk table is all it takes — and you are hooked. That being said, we have thrown together a short list of Roswell’s hottest restaurants at the moment, some of which are cozy cottages super close to the hustle and bustle of Canton Street mixed in with a couple that find themselves on the fringe of Roswell’s outer banks. TABLE AND MAIN 1028 Canton Street•Roswell, 30075•678.869.5178 Table and Main, what many believe to be Roswell’s best restaurant, touts itself as a southern tavern serving simple, seasonal, southern cuisine. Rest assured, you are eating some of the very best Roswell has to offer when sitting in the dining room at this beautifully restored old southern cottage. Pork stuffed chive crepes is a fun take on the pulled pork sandwich. Meatloaf meatballs arrive with a
34
sugary ketchup. Charleston She-Crab Soup is elevated by a hint of heat. Entrees range from a simple Brasstown beef salisbury steak to sweet diver scallops and from shrimp ‘n grits to a smoked chop with peach and bacon chutney. The latter being a real game-changer. Kudos to Executive Chef Ted Lahey for making southern farm-totable fare interesting again. OSTERIA MATTONE 1095 Canton Street•Roswell, 30075•678.878.3378 This is one of the more interesting Roswell eateries and the Italian spin-off of owner Ryan Pernice’s popular Table and Main, a mere stones throw away. It’s another one of those cozy Roswell cottages with a sprawling patio overlooking Canton Street. Start with a sneaky good wood-fired pizza or a plate of two pillowy veal meatballs or fork-tender grilled octopus and finish with a classic, perfectly cooked branzino (Mediterranean sea bass) with capers or buttery braised oxtail agnolotti. Executive Chef Ted Lahey proves with the fare coming out of this kitchen that his shtick goes beyond southern farm-to-table. PEACH & THE PORKCHOP 12040 Etris Road•Roswell, 30075•770.696.5409 This Roswell gastropub, just a short jaunt to the north of all the hoopla, wasn’t even open ninety days before reaching rock star status and, despite being so casual, is a serious contender for “Best Restaurant” in Roswell, whenever such talks should arise. The pork belly appetizer is a must, the Roswell Cheesesteak will make you forget everything about Philadelphia and sous vide chicken wings

are among the city’s best. The atmosphere is casual. The food is incredibly sourced. The drink program is well thought out. This Sweet Apple strip center resto is the Muss & Turner’s of Roswell, but with televisions and on a larger, even more casual scale. Executive Chef Benjamin Thorton does it the right way all the way down to the locally sourced (whenever possible) veggies. Haricot verts and brussel sprouts are simple but praise worthy, finished in a luscious layer of duck fat. This is the kind of restaurant that everybody in the business wants to open one day, and the kind of place we all want to have in our own neighborhood. FOUNDATION SOCIAL EATERY (FSE) 1570 Holcomb Bridge Rd, Space 810•Roswell, 30076•770.641.8877 Foundation Social Eatery is located about as far from the heart of the Roswell dining scene as you can get and still be in Roswell. But whatever you do, don’t miss this one. Owner-Chef Mel Toledo’s resume reads like a who’s-who of the local, national and international culinary world. And it shows in his cooking, which surprisingly comes across very down to earth and rustic. But he achieves such depth in a simple lamb ragout, first-time diners often find themselves in a state of blissful bewilderment. A lightly battered octopus tentacle arrives fork tender and is unquestionably Spanish in flavor, but like most of Toledo’s dishes, is unmistakably French in so many ways; that very French Foundation that keeps him grounded. And you’ll be pleased with the intown quality service and beverage program this rare gem in the suburbs has to offer.
Historic Downtown Roswell’s newest addition. Located on the corner of Elizabeth Way and Alpharetta Street.

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Jr., at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center on January 29 at 7:00 p.m. and January 30 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Based on the 1994 Broadway production and Disney’s 1991 animated feature film, the musical features classic songs from the Academy Award®-winning film score, such as “Be Our Guest” and “Belle,” as well as original songs from the 1994 Tony®-nominated Broadway musical. The Roswell Showstoppers cast comprises 24 students who have rehearsed since September under the direction of Managing Director Nancy Whitehead and Artistic Director Leslie Kelley. “The performers have worked very hard on their character development, vocals and choreography. ON THE MOVE By Tracy Coles The Hernandez Group, KW Roswell As I look into my crystal ball for 2016 (through the eyes of realtor.com’s chief economist, Jonathan Smoke), I see good things for the Atlanta Real Estate Market. While many regions and communities can expect a leveling of home prices and sales, the Atlanta market is ranked as the 5th Hottest Market (out of the top 10) in the country. We can thank the numerous tech and manufacturing corporations that are calling Atlanta home, the burgeoning movie business, and the standard of living that decent wages, low cost of living and temperate climate provides for appealing to the key demographics that are driving demand. These are the business opportunities and lifestyles that attract the older millennials (25-34 yrs), younger gen-exers (35 and 44 yrs), and retirees (65 – 74 yrs) that will drive home sales in 2016. The greatest challenge home buyers face in a hot market is inventory. A balanced market offers 6 months of supply. We are seeing as few as 2 months in most price ranges. If you have been thinking of putting your home on the market, now is the time. Homes that are priced right for condition sell quickly, often with multiple offers. As most of the country sees slower price appreciation (and even declining sales), Roswell is in a very good position to make a move in 2016.
