“As we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence actually liberates others.” — Marianne Williamson Have you ever found yourself downplaying your accomplishments because you feared others might compare theirs to yours and view themselves as inferior? As women, we sometimes tend to do that. I admit over the years there have been times when I’ve been reluctant to mention receiving special recognition or awards because I was afraid others would think I was bragging. I never liked putting the spotlight on me. Well today I am excited to announce that I have followed my dreams and have taken over the media company that I have worked at for the last few years and I am thrilled to call myself a business owner for the first time! I introduce to you Blue Water Media! A friend said to me many years ago, “You can strive to bring people up or you can let them pull you down. It’s your choice.” This basic concept can be life changing: Women are the strongest people you’ll ever meet. We speak straight from the heart. Women are real and down to earth and we have the ability to laugh at ourselves. We can make things happen even when they seem impossible. As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. It becomes a two-way street with mutual respect and encouragement to reach our full potential. My wish for you is that you shine on and truly expect the same from others. Doing so can make a profound difference in our community and beyond. I hope you enjoy our latest issue of She Spot while we continue to capture the true essence of what being a woman is all about!

Carpe the Sexy Diem:
Share the benefits of well-being
HAPPENS By Renee Thompson
A
n episode of my favorite guilty pleasure, Sons of Anarchy, addressed the realities of menopause: Katie Segal’s sexy, matriarchal character, Gemma, realizes that she is beginning to go through “The Change” when she begins to feel the physical discomfort that can happen during sex while going through menopause. Let’s just say that the cave isn’t quite as prone to dampness and Gemma is upset about its effect on her sex life, but also processing the bigger implication – aging. It hit me like a ton of bricks that I wasn’t so far away from experiencing the same thing myself; that I might feel young but my body will start telling me that it’s closed for potential baby-making business and the inevitable menopausal symptoms will show up. If I’m lucky, I have another ten years of comfortable sex and for now, “Oh boy! I better get on it!” Certainly, I’ve considered other aspects of menopause over the years like the purported skin texture change or never having cramps and monthly lethargy again, but losing lubrication hadn’t occurred to me. Sex will no longer be quite as spontaneous as it has been. Rather than the random pause for a little synthetic lubrication, instead, this will be the norm. Although it might be an inconvenience in

the future, I have decided to focus on the positive: This is a great reason to place a higher priority on good sex NOW. I’m just a couple years past the peak of my sexuality which has been great so far, so why not shift a little more attention towards having great sex now? Instead of just doing the dishes after brunch and going for a hike with my sweetie, why not finish it off with a shower and some nookie? Instead of just spontaneously getting “down” here and there when the mood strikes, why not think about how to enjoy my body more often and if that means a little planning or calculated seduction then so be it. Besides, just the act of considering sex as an activity leads to pleasant thoughts that can certainly be inspiring as well.

SSM: What did you learn from the transition in your marriage and the changing of the home dynamic? KW: Regarding the home dynamic transition, I think it’s not so much what I learned, but rather, really something I always knew. Our marriage is a partnership and one that flows with change. Rich and I support each other. And for this, I would have to say communication is the key to any partnership. Having communication on goals and aspirations helps when something comes up in our lives for either one of us; we both know and understand that it was something they other desired. Since we are always changing and our goals are changing as well, we need to communicate to our partners and help them understand what is important and what we hope to achieve. We need to understand each other’s goals and ideas and find a way to compromise so neither one of us feels slighted or finds ourselves striving for goals on different paths. Instead, we try to help each other to achieve individual goals and grow together as a powerful, productive team.

age; you can never be too careful. Other than that our private family life is the same as it has been. We value the time we are together and make a more conscious effort to be sure that we get to spend that time together instead of just expecting that we’re all available at any given moment. SSM: What convinced you to join the real TV culture and share your life publicly? KW: I was very apprehensive but since Bravo was so persistent as to having us be a part of RHONJ we took the challenge. We’re very happy in the role our family was able to fulfill. Sometimes reality TV can be a very wild ride but fortunately for the Wakile family we were able to provide the much-needed balance to the stories of this franchise. Our family’s integrity was not something we were willing to compromise for anything. So fortunately for us that’s what Bravo was looking for. SSM: How has the relationship with your sister been affected by the media?
As far as our family dynamic, my goals in business and getting busier outside of my home has forced everyone in my household to pitch in and assume more responsibilities. This needed to happen anyway. My children are young adults and needed to start doing more things for themselves.
KW: My relationship with Rosie has only become stronger. We communicate much more openly out of sheer need. We need to understand each other more than ever before because a small misunderstanding that some article or a scene, for instance, can run wild, like a very bad game of telephone.
SSM: How has your life changed since you joined the Real Housewives show?
SSM: Has the public life made your relationships more difficult to maintain?
KW: In some ways my life has changed dramatically. For instance being recognized and approached by complete strangers does take a little bit of getting used to. It still kind of sets me back when I’m approached at the market and someone says, “Hey Kathy, what are you doing here?” Umm… grocery shopping. How about you? Ha ha! Having said that, we as a family have to be much more aware of our surroundings than usual. However I think that’s a good practice for all families in this day and
KW: I think that whenever someone takes on more personal responsibilities your relationships change and you really find out who your true friends are. Going from a full time stay home mom and wife, I had always been everyone’s “go to” person. That has changed only for the simple reason of time limitations. Now my true friends and family members understand and are very happy for me. Volume 1, Issue 2

Transformation of a Mom Hag By Lisa Walters
So, getting ready for these events has been stressful, rushed, and left me feeling very unpretty. I am currently expecting baby Number Two, and feeling very tired… especially tired of feeling like a mom hag. Sure I’ve been able to pull off a pair of cute riding boots for the grocery store, and I always make time for a daily shower. But feeling like a mom hag has just as much to do with how you feel on the inside as it does your outer appearance. When we received an invitation for an upcoming wedding of two dear friends from high school, I decided I was going to give myself a little extra pampering. 1. I scheduled a pedicure and manicure for early that morning.
S
ince having my son, it isn’t as easy to get myself ready for a special event. Every day it’s the same straight hair or ponytail. Every day it’s the same makeup routine with the same inexpensive products from the drugstore cosmetic aisle. Years ago it was just me and my paycheck. It was the postcollege days, working my first real job, living rent-free with my roommates (Mom and Dad), and splurging on fancier things that made me feel pulled together and pretty. These days, when it comes to leaving the house I’m more concerned about having snacks packed and a clean diaper on my child than whether or not my purse matches today’s choice of yoga pants. (Don’t let the pants fool you... I don’t even do yoga.) My husband and I have attended a handful of weddings and parties since our son was born. There always seems to be a child at my feet exploring the bathroom cabinets while I am applying mascara. I think my husband thinks it brings me joy to have this “family time” as I attempt to get ready. Jack runs 14 • She Spot •
between the bedroom and bathroom, and hubby relaxes on the bed without a thought.

2. I have a friend that is a hairdresser and I booked her to do my hair and makeup later in the afternoon. 3. I stayed out of the house all day at these appointments. (Can’t have a toddler at your heels when you’re across town at the nail salon.) 4. I didn’t pack Jack’s overnight bag or worry about what he was being fed all day. I let my husband figure it out. (It’s amazing how things still get done when we free ourselves of micromanaging everything. Dads can handle a little extra responsibility.) 5. I came home ten minutes before it was time to leave. (Just enough time to kiss my son goodbye and slip into my new maternity cocktail dress.) Daddy seemed frazzled as we left the house. (Most likely because he played the role of me all day.) But Momma felt refreshed and ready to party. I realize that I do not have the time or funds to follow this “Anti-Mom Hag” itinerary everyday, or for every special occasion for that matter. All moms deserve a day away from their normal duties. This had been my first one in sixteen months. The next time you have something special to attend, hang up those yoga pants and schedule professionals to work their magic. Take yourself from “mom hag” to “mom swag” in a few well-deserved hours. Lisa is a freelance writer, elementary school teacher, and new mom. She resides in Perkasie with her husband Jason, son Jack, and two dogs Winchester and Trigger.

Stop Living with Knee, Hip and Joint Pain
Innovative Techniques, Personalized Care Algier says Dr. Pavlides “is not one to jump into surgery” as the only option. He first advises weight loss, exercise and other nonsurgical options to alleviate knee pain. Her praise for Dr. Pavlides includes not only her hospital care and comprehensive therapy, but also her scar. “I’m proud of my scar,” she says. “At therapy other patients noticed it and other doctors have asked about it.” Dr. Pavlides uses minimally invasive surgical techniques and closes the incision from the inside out. It’s a cosmetic approach, he explains. “I don’t use staples or close from the outside, so you don’t get that railroad track effect,” he says. “It takes more time, but I feel patients don’t need a big scar that’s a constant reminder of the surgery.” From her sisters’ experience, Algier also knew she would receive an extraordinary level of personal attention from Dr. Pavlides. “He spent time with me every day in the hospital and made sure I had everything I needed,” she says. “I’ve never had a better experience.”

arole Algier and her two sisters work together, baking and selling specialty cakes. Their days, she says, are just filled with joy. Their business, Full Spirited FlavoursTM, is a second career for each of them and something the closeknit trio believes was destined to be. But that’s not all these women do together. In the past two years, all three have had double knee replacements, Carole this past June. All had surgery at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center, by the same orthopedic surgeon, Nikos Pavlides, MD, of Brandywine Institute of Orthopaedics. And they all stayed in the same room at PMMC’s Center for Orthopedics and Spine. “Dr. Pavlides is so tuned in to you as a patient, and his team at Pottstown is the same way,” says Algier, a Glenmoore resident. “Everyone is on the same page. You feel safe and secure in their hands and so well cared for.” Sister Sue was the first to have surgery, two years ago. Algier calls her “the scout” who researched and found the best doctor for “mature” knees pained by arthritis. Kathy had surgery a year ago. “We were there for one another through the surgeries, and that support was great,” Algier says. “But also, Dr. Pavlides has such a complete program at Pottstown. There’s no way you can’t recoup!”

the day before?’” says Ericka with confidence. “So many women compromise who they are in order to get to where they want to go. I feel you don’t need to do that. You need to find the place that works for who you are and be authentic in yourself. That’s the easiest and best way to grow and expand in your career.”
She grew up in the rugged neighborhood of East New York, Brooklyn, where violence was more prevalent than marketing. While at a major media company, she worked her way through Bernard M. Baruch College in Manhattan earning a bachelor’s degree in corporate communications with a concentration in public relations.
Her career is expanding. The Blue Flame Agency is a Sean Combs company and markets Cîroc Ultra Premium Vodka. In 2010, three years after Combs signed on with Cîroc (a Diageo brand), the company has experienced massive growth. The spirit, which comes in five flavors (the newest being Amaretto), is available in 180 countries. Somebody is doing something right … and that is Ericka and The Blue Flame Agency.
“I always say I’m going to write a book ‘From East New York to West New York,’” says Ericka from her Broadway office four blocks south of Central Park. “As an adult now I look back on my childhood and I am really glad my personality and my social interactions were developed in Brooklyn. I think it helped me navigate through my adult life.” Navigate she has. The driving forces behind her professional success are the mentors and role models she has met in her life. She comes from a self-described long line of strong women who have worked hard. While talking with Ericka there are two points that resonate: be more than just a contribution and be true to yourself.
“It’s a superior liquid and is doing very well for us as a brand,” says Ericka while talking about the new Amaretto flavor. For Ericka, it—life, business, et al.—is about the brand. “Branding is vital for every aspect of business and even for your own professional career. It is a key component to the success of any business. If you create it, they will come. But if they never know it is there, they’ll never come and get it.” Michael C. Upton works as a freelance writer specializing in arts and leisure covering subjects ranging from funk punk to fine wine. He currently resides in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

had no problem turning 30. Nor did I have an issue when 31, 32, 33, and 34 came and went. But when I turned 35, I lost my mind. Or so I thought. It was a big year. A year of endings and beginnings, a year of happiness and sorrow. The year I realized I was almost 40 and questioned everything. It was also the year I did many of the things I had always wanted to do, but hadn’t. There were those around me for that pivotal year who thought I was “losing it” but I had in fact “found it.” Being in your thirties feels great, most of the time. I know a thing or two now and have more confidence now than I had in my twenties. I tried new things. Died my hair black, put red tips on the end (I wouldn’t advise this unless you want to lose a few inches of hair), went blonde, got a tattoo, wrote a few articles, sung a few songs. It was the year of self-exploration that I had not previously allowed myself to have. I also felt myself shifting out of the first act of my life and entering the second. The question was “How will I make my entrance?” Being newly divorced and a mother of a teenager complicated

Finding a House to call a home by lauren cronmiller Now that we worked on our credit and have some money in the bank, it is time to get preapproved. A preapproval is necessary when placing an offer on a home. After you have obtained a preapproval letter, it’s time to start our home search!! I will ask you a couple of questions so I can find you the house of your dreams. What are your top five must haves? I may have to compromise on some but I try my hardest to find a home that has everything you are looking for. Where do you want to move to? Are you looking for a specific school district? Do you want to be a certain distance away from a work place, daycare, grandparents, etc. Are there areas you would like to avoid?

Do not get discouraged if when you get to a property, it isn’t what you expected. I use Google Maps to get a better idea of the location and it’s surrounding areas. I had a client who could not figure out why a property was so cheap. He was so excited to look at it. I looked it up on Google Maps and BINGO. I-476 was in the backyard. Needless to say, we did not look at the house but it saved us both time and gas. Other tips when looking for a home… Drive by the home at night to see what the neighborhood is like. Then take a drive around the block. Is there a quarry, landfill, etc. that could create a disturbance. The process may seem overwhelming but we will be with you every step of the way. 7 Natural Ways
Have it your way at
to Protect your Skin from the Sun By Kelly Nelson Ready or not, bikini season will be here before you know it. Among the many things to worry about when planning your next beach trip, protecting your skin is always at the top of the list. Here are some natural options that will not only protect your skin but will also improve your skin’s overall health. 1. Start from the inside out. Think of the food you eat as medicine for your body, including your skin. Eating foods that are filled with antioxidants and other vitamins such as blueberries, tomatoes, cranberries, and strawberries, will not only improve your skin’s health but will make your skin stronger to fight against any sun damage. 2. Try Dry Brushing. Dry brushing is the latest craze in natural beauty. Brush before you shower; this treatment strengthens the immune system, exfoliates the skin, clears your pores, and helps to remove toxins all at the same time! 3. Ease into the Season. Vitamin D is actually good for the skin and in moderation it’s not a bad thing to expose your skin to the sun. The trick is to expose your skin only for short periods of time so you don’t get sunburn, but to always wear sunscreen when exposed to direct sunlight. 4. Use Organic and Mineral Sunscreens. Some sunscreens actually clog the pores and contain chemicals that are harmful for your skin. Be sure to purchase sunscreens that are organic or mineral-based, so you are not actually hurting your skin when trying to protect it.
5. Take Vitamin D Supplements. What most people don’t realize is that many Americans are Vitamin D deficient. Some studies have proven that by taking Vitamin D supplements you can build tolerance and protection against sun damage. 6. Drink Green Tea. Green tea is well known for being loaded with antioxidants, which are excellent for your skin in general. Green tea also contains polyphenols, which help to inhibit the development of skin tumors and also prevent DNA damage. 7. Sit Under the Umbrella. Seems like common sense right? But who hasn’t sat out in the sun at the beach or an outdoor event, and before you know it, you have sunburn. Avoid direct sunlight by lounging under an umbrella, with a fun, floppy hat, cute cover-up, and perhaps a cool drink as well! Kelly Nelson has a passion for writing about fashion, beauty and healthy living. In addition to She Spot Magazine, Kelly also writes for Ask Miss A and Wedderspoon USA. So when you invest in your hair and you love the style and color and diversity of the cut, your entire outlook is improved. Looking good for a special event or a special night, even just to workout – it’s a good thing. And for all your different looks you must have the tools and products you need to make it happen. An easy home routine for busy people is not just a privilege, it’s a must. Does your hair have a product wardrobe? Where can you get all of this? With Carmine & Co. It’s personal. rocessed foods, especially those that are moderately to highly processed, are major contributors to health issues. These types of foods are loaded with added sugar and salt and processed to the point that all the nutrients and fiber have been removed. I believe there are other issues with these foods also, but that is a discussion for another article. One thing is for sure: Replacing processed foods and food products with whole foods is overall healthier for everyone. More often than not people tell me they eat these highly processed foods because they don’t have time to make food. I understand most people live very busy lives. Between working, commitments to friends and family, kids schedules (if kids are in the picture) we feel like we are chasing our tails! I understand this very well. I am a single mom with many commitments. But we need to start making a change. I am not going to ask you to go from all processed food to making every food that you put into your mouth. What I am going to ask you to do is to start thinking about making a change. It can seem like an insurmountable task, but guess what? It isn’t. It is a new way of thinking and doing things. Some bad habits need to be replaced with some new and helpful habits. Here is a start. You will write up your grocery list a day before you will shop so you can put some
thought into what you are buying. Before you even right down what you are buying, figure out your schedule for the week. Will there be late workdays that would benefit from a quick meal? Will you be able to cook a meal on any of the days? What other commitments do you have for the week coming up? Now think about what meals you might be able to make ahead of time. What snacks can you prep to grab and go rather than choosing something that is completely devoid of any nutrients? What day can you spend a little time to get ready for the week? Now make that shopping list and stick to a plan to get some real food ready for a busy week. Before you know it the habit of grabbing boxed foods will be replaced with new habits and a new schedule that includes feeding yourself real food. That is one of the best things you can do for yourself. Erika Ringwald is a Registered Dietitian with Erika Ringwald Nutrition. Is It Okay
TO FAKE An Orgasm?
By Holli Harms Here’s a small list of reasons that make faking acceptable: 1) You want to get back to your show. 2) Your man has a bad day and you want to give him a victory. 3) You have an audition for HBO and you could use the practice. 4) It has been a long day and you desperately need sleep. 5) New guy and you want to impress him. 6) Old guy and you don’t want him to strain himself. 7) You have no idea what the real thing is so you fake it because you don’t know what else to do. Truth is, faking anything in life leads to an inauthentic life and none of us is here for that, are we? It’s not all about him and your faking says it is; it says that his pleasure trumps yours. Know that 99.9 % of what you see in movies and television is hogwash. Those women are
actresses paid to fake it. Paid to pretend that what is happening is reality, and that you too should reach orgasm with this one simple move. Movies are for the most part written, produced and directed by men, not women. Now, I do believe that most men want their partners to be truly happy and satisfied. So what I am saying is simply that media producers are coming at it from the perspective of an unrealistic fantasy and what’s going to keep you on the couch? That very escape from reality. If you have no idea what gets you aroused to orgasm you need to find this out and pronto. Your pleasure IS your responsibility. You need to know what works for you. So experiment without your partner and with him. You have to ask him to attend to you, as well as you attending to him. He’ll enjoy the exploration of your
body you as much as you enjoy it. If you have no idea where to begin there are a plethora of sites online to help. Once you start to have the real thing, you and your partner will both feel much closer. Orgasms are honestly good for your skin and sleep (remember the Seinfeld episode, “Master of Your Domain”...) and overall health. Faking is good for nothing unless you really do have that HBO audition–but that’s television where nothing is authentic–even reality shows are staged. So explore and start living an authentic life. You and your partner will both be the better for it. Holli Harms is a writer living in NYC and the Poconos of Pennsylvania with her husband and daughter. She tries not to fake anything, except the obvious, such as delight at the sight of her dentist.

an you get along with your ex? That is a question I’ve wrestled with over the last eighteen years. I roller-coastered through every possible emotion during my divorce, sometimes all in the same day. While figuring out custody of my then two-year-old daughter, I never thought there would be so many times when my soon-to-be ex-husband and I would have to come together for the greater good of our child. Early on it was holidays and birthday parties followed by sporting events and school functions. Yes, there were more times than I can count where we sat stiffly next to each other careful not to touch knees or reach for something at the same time lest our fingers touch. There were also episodes of ugly word exchanges, both publicly and in private. After one too many times of feeling angry and just plain exhausted after seeing my ex, I had an enlightening conversation with my mom. She too had gone through a difficult divorce when I was young. The wisest piece of advice she gave me was to never say anything unkind about my ex in front of my daughter. She reminded me that I once loved this man and adored the very ground he walked on. She challenged me to try to remember the qualities that attracted me to him and to see that those qualities were part of the makeup of our daughter, and she was the gift of our time together. Now, please don’t think for one minute that the next day all of my problems were solved and my ex and I were best friends. And yes, there were plenty of unsavory tales told to family and friends over many glasses of my favorite Pinot Grigio. I am only human! It was a process over many years with plenty of missteps along the way. We realized, especially when our daughter started texting
instead of talking, that our best bet was to stay in almost daily contact. It was infuriating to her then but I think it helped as the years went by to know that her mom and dad couldn’t live together but we loved her always. Our daughter can also see we have a mutual respect for each other that has blossomed into a type of friendship that I wouldn’t want to be without. Because we laid the groundwork for this new type of relationship together, we could rely on each other, and she could rely on us. This was especially beneficial when she suffered with health issues that prohibited her from playing her beloved field hockey, experienced depression, and became a single parent at the age of twenty. I am proud that we chose forgiveness instead of bitterness as our lives continue to intersect after divorce. Candace Young is a writer, among so many other things-wanna-be, living quietly in Doylestown, Pennsylvania and always looking for a way to make the world a better place.

I
had a tumultuous relationship with my mother growing up. We had two different personalities and her continuous response of “because I said so” to my life questions frustrated me to no end. I always assumed we would grow closer when I married and had children, and I looked forward to these future days when I could use her advice and life lessons to guide me. What I didn’t leave room for in this assumption was the possibility that I would never have this opportunity. You see, my mother died of cancer Christmas Eve 2002. I was twenty-six years old. When I received the phone call from my father telling me my mother was sick, I made the only choice I could live with. I left my life in Boston behind, including a boyfriend of five years, a job I loved, and all of my friends. I moved to New Jersey immediately to care for my mother during her final months. I will never regret this decision, mostly because I finally had the chance to get to know the woman who had been so elusive my entire life. Sitting through many hours of chemotherapy sessions, my mother finally opened up to me. She talked about her life before I knew her. How she was married before my father, a secret kept in the skeletal closet for almost three decades. She told me her dreams for her children and their children. Mostly, she explained why she made the choices she did as a mother while I was growing up.
Skip ahead eleven years, I now have a new respect for my mother and how difficult it is to be one. I presently play an unconventional mother role, as I live with my boyfriend and his three children ages eleven, seven, and five. I walked into this whirlwind several years ago, and I find one thing to be the most interesting. The mother I thought I was nothing like, well, it turns out I’m just like her. I hide cookies on the top shelf of the pantry to keep the kids away from junk food. I help the youngest one spell her name and help the seven-year-old tie her shoes. I play hopscotch and American girl dolls and push kids on swings. When it comes to discipline, I might as well have a recording of my mother’s voice as I often repeat those dreaded clichés, such as, “Just wait until your father gets home!” I miss my mother every day, as I’m constantly reminded of her in the choices I make involving the children in my life. I am proud to know I am more like her than I ever knew, and I’m grateful we both took the time to get to know each other before she passed. As a child, I never understood my mother. As an adult who takes care of children, I am so grateful I was blessed with the mother I had, as the lessons I learned are endless. I can only hope that I have the same positive impact on the children I am raising. Kathleen McNicholas has a B.A. in Communication from Montclair State University. Pay Attention! By Annie Joel “Yes, I have a problem and I really need to talk to someone. The man I talked to the other day told me this would not happen. But it did.” “No problem. Who was it that you spoke to?” Silence. “It was someone there.” More silence. “A middle-aged man.” Really??? I hold the phone away from my ear. I look at it, and I think what the hell do you want me to do with that useless information? I’m surrounded by middle aged men. Which poor anonymous schlep do I pick? I work with the public every day. How lucky am I? To think, I could have become a nun after that 8th grade retreat at the convent. But I digress… Both on the phone and face to face, I am overcome with consternation by the alarming number of customers who, after weeks of ongoing communication, have no idea who they’ve been working with. The customer relationship in the service sector is becoming increasingly impersonal, and NOT from my side of the counter.
“Oh, yes. That’s Joe you need to speak with,” I will say, and put the caller through to Joe’s line. But then the caller gets Joe’s voicemail; instead of leaving a simple message, the caller calls back seconds later asking for “the guy that was helping me.” I confess, I’ll admit, all I want to say now is, “Oh. That guy died. Would you care to speak with anyone else?” But I can’t… People are so focused on themselves these days they are rude and full of needy. Whatever happened to manners and common courtesy? Personally, I cannot imagine not knowing the name of the one person who is helping me get or fix that one thing I need. I have also learned that using a person’s name on the phone and in person changes the whole dynamic. There’s an instant connection when I answer the phone, “Annie speaking,” and the person at the other end says, “Hello Annie, how are you today?” Sometimes that one little phrase can develop into a fun and satisfying relationship. So, if you remember just one thing from today, it’s this: Remember who you spoke with! You don’t have to know his or her whole life story, just a name! My daily frustration has certainly taught me to try to listen more carefully to people and look beyond myself. You will feel the difference, you’ll receive much better service, and the person like myself at the other end of the phone doesn’t feel like dropping the receiver –and you– on the floor. Annie Joel is a freelance writer and one cranky Mo-Fo who doesn’t have time to waste on rude or inconsiderate others. She resides in a neighborhood near you.

One woman’s death defying
“A Ha!” Moment Terese Brittingham
Broker of Record & Owner Keller Williams Realty Group Market Centers By Sharyl Volpe
T
his Temple University grad has seen more than the average bear’s share of life and living, especially after she almost lost it all. Terese Brittingham is married to Bob, and she’s the proud mother of two, Daniel and Alexandria. A realtor for more than seventeen years, she owns a franchised division of Keller Williams Realty, earning national distinction as Broker of the Year along with countless other awards. She’s executed over 1,500 transactions and closed on millions of dollar’s worth of property. She is one of the most knowledgeable and well-respected realtors in Montgomery County. You could say she has a knack for the industry. Terese says, “I just love what I do! Helping people realize their dreams fuels my drive. People have different goals in life, and helping them figure out what they are and how to accomplish them energizes me.” Among Terese’s many hobbies, and there are a lot, her biggest rush stands alone: She and Bob are into horse racing. In 2005, their horse, Afleet Alex, rose to the top in all three of the Triple Crown races, placing third in The Kentucky Derby, and first in The Preakness and Belmont Stakes. “I certainly have a unique background with the horse racing. It really is so much fun. We have two wonderful kids, and all of us love running around to the races. I’ve been lucky with a lot. I wake up every day, I put both feet on the floor. I am the master of my day. And I choose to make the most of mine.” How did she get such an inspired outlook? During her second pregnancy, Terese the workaholic was stricken with an illness so severe her husband was facing the loss of either his wife or his yet to be born
daughter. “I had been given my last rites. And it was then that I had my moment. I told myself, ‘Wake up! I am not done.’ And I was given the chance to wake up and live.” Through determination and excellent care, Terese made a miraculous, full recovery. “What attracted me to open the franchise after this was Keller’s mission, it spoke to me. It put family ahead of business.” And she’s made the most of every minute ever since, nurturing her family, growing her business, and helping others on a grand scale. Terese’s annual golf outing at Rivercrest Golf Preserve is dedicated to her favorite charity, Alex’s Lemonade Stand. Since 2006 she has overseen fundraising and is personally responsible for helping raise thousands of dollars each year. In business, she applies this helping principle not only to buyers, but sellers too. “I even help other real estate agents. Learning what they want by listening and not just interjecting my advice works really well.” Terese specializes in listing homes, relocation, special financing, and first time homebuyers. She believes helping her clients understand what she does helps them make better decisions. “Shedding light on complex home buying processes is just a part of my philosophy.” Learn more about Terese Brittingham online at www.kw.com/kw/agent/teresebrittingham, or call (610) 792-5900 x8101 to speak with her directly. Tête-à-Têtes By Francesca The scenario is familiar. Married with children, trudging to a daily job, hubby not as attentive as he was in the beginning. His masculine hands, which used to be all over you, are now tucked in ‘his’ side of the bed. Sex becomes a ‘chore,’ one that he feels he must do sporadically. And, quickly, if you will! The glow has faded, the flame has fizzled out and you dream of another world, one that sizzles and helps you feel alluring as he once did. And, yes, we know it’s self-esteem and not anyone’s job to make you feel alluring except yourself. Now what? We all know the rules of the Ten Commandments, and we shall not covet anyone’s husband (as we change the rules). Yet, that hottie with the smoldering eyes, who lingers at the water cooler staring at you with desire, is becoming harder to ignore. It starts with an innocent flirt. One that makes you want to escape reality and fly to a palm treed island, sip fancy drinks in coconut shells and enjoy a pink tinged beach with the blazing sun beaming down on your oiled body. Face it! You need a vacation from your daily life. Yet, inside you’re torn. You love your family and don’t want to destroy it, but the other side of you wants to have an affair. And, perhaps, it might even spice up your marriage and quench your thirst forever. The first
diner pour deux with a possible lover is uncomfortable. You’ve never done this and you stare around the restaurant to make sure no one recognizes you. This starts a chain of guilty events, even when there aren’t any! In fact, this first step might even make you think twice. Guilt is a powerful obsession. But, what if one dinner isn’t enough and that dinner leads to another? Suddenly, you are charged with an energy that monopolizes your mind. Powerful emotions evolve that invade the way the world is viewed. Your world is dreamier as passion ignites your soul. What to do? Jump in with eyes wide open or just file it in the cockles of your mind? Whether you decide to pursue the situation with fervor, or put it to rest is a personal decision. Just know what you are getting into and be ready for either the ride of your life, or a disappointment that can lead you down the path of destruction. The enchanting Francesca had traveled the world before cultivating roots in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Her memories of decadent adventures and decades of love reign supreme in her mind.

The Art of Kissing:
5 Ways to Lure Him with Your Lips By Michelle Welliver
When we want to express the affection we have for a significant other without using words, we often use our lips to reveal what we desire… through the art of kissing. A kiss is an intimate way of sharing a message with our partner about what is on our mind, often creating the setting for what can be a tender moment or something much more passionate. Aside from the traditional peck or well-known French kiss, here are five satisfying ways to lure him with your lips: The Lip Trace Kiss Stick out the tip of your tongue and gently trace the outline of his mouth. This is a sensual kiss that will have him desiring more. The Angel’s Wings Kiss Take a piece of ice and place it near the small of his back. Slowly move the ice up his back, towards his shoulder blades and complete the kiss by gently sucking until the ice melts. The Collarbone Kiss Begin by kissing his neck, up by his ear, then slowly work your way down his neck to his
collarbone. He will find this quite arousing. The Bottom Lip Kiss While kissing him, gently suck on his bottom lip and slightly pull it away. This is a very passionate kiss that may lead to more intense kissing. The Flutter Kiss While French kissing, gently bite his tongue so that he can’t pull it away. Flutter your tongue against the tip of his and it will drive him crazy. Roxanne
(part two)
By Georgina Young-Ellis Roxanne whipped a tee shirt out of her gym bag and tossed it over the worn, velvet sofa. Who knew how many sexual liaisons had taken place on that antique piece of furniture in the café restroom? She allowed this man she’d known for all of five minutes to slide her skirt up over her hips. She was bare-legged thanks to the warm spring day and needed only to shimmy out of her panties. He had her top open and her bra unhooked before she could get him out of his suit jacket. With an easy shrug he let it fall from his shoulders. He hung it on the door hook while she unbuttoned and unzipped his trousers. He removed them with a practiced motion, along with his briefs, and kicked his loafers onto the floor. Seconds later, she was on her back, his mouth on one breast, his hand on the other. The sleeves of her blouse, still half on, made her a prisoner, partially bound. He rose to his knees, quickly slipped on protection, then positioned his hands on the sides of the sofa and slid his erection between her legs. She welcomed him eagerly. He filled her, moving in rapid rhythm.
The thought fled. She was reaching climax and once there, couldn’t stop. When the spasms subsided, her head cleared. How much time had passed? Had the counter guy noticed their absence? After all, they had been the only people in the café. As if reading her mind, her mysterious lover quickened his pulse, then suddenly erupted, his face exquisite with pleasure. She watched him, entranced. He opened his eyes and smiled, placed a kiss on her lips and withdrew. She pulled her bra into place and located her panties, but, before she could restore herself completely, he was dressed. She looked up at him, surprised. He kissed her again and pressed something into her palm. Then he was gone. The creamy, white card in her hand revealed only a London address and a New York City phone number. Georgina Young-Ellis lives in Queens, New York with her artist husband and musician son. She is the author of The Time Mistress Series, a romantic time-travel series spiced with adventure.Titles include The Time Baroness, set in Jane Austen’s England; The Time Heiress, staged in pre-Civil War New York City; and The Time Contessa, a journey to Renaissance Italy. Georgina is also a journalist, film/theater critic, and blogger.
She had never had an anonymous encounter. “What’s your name?” she gasped into his ear. “Don’t worry about it,” he murmured.
