If We Were To Plant A Tree

Dar is an artist, a writer, an educator and a national speaker who lives among many beautiful trees in New Hope, PA.

The Illustrators from Pittsburgh’s Environmental Charter School

Dar

Dar (Hosta) has been using tree motifs in her art for many years, responding to the deep emotional connection that humans have to them and the power they have to symbolize what is most dear to us: family, love, knowledge, life. If We Were To Plant A Tree is her eighth picture book for children and was inspired by her 2008 award winning title, If I Were A Tree.

$17.95 US Trees! Wonderful trees... We know about trees in faraway forests and wandering woods, trees in meandering meadows and vast valleys, but what about city trees? When is the last time you took a moment to think about a city tree? Trees make our cities healthier, happier places to be! And, city trees are special because they don’t always just happen on their own. Join award winning writer, Dar, and her illustrator friends from Pittsburgh’s Environmental Charter School as they celebrate urban forestry and all the ways it makes our communities and cities places we love to call home.

ou’ve spoken and we’ve listened Pittsburgh. Get ready for an upgrade, Zeke’s style! In the heart of East Liberty since 2010, our family-owned and operated small-batch Roastery, Bakery and Café have been on a fearless mission: to bring pounds to the people! If you live in Pittsburgh, there’s a good chance you’ve run into us around town, whether at our café, city farmers markets, events, or even local stores, cafés and bars. Come hell or high water, wherever it is, whatever it is, we’ll meet you there, with hot cups of joe served up proper, pounds of whole beans freshly roasted in-house to perfection, and straight-out-the-oven, no b.s. sweet treats, just like your Grammy used to make. In the coming months, we’ll be moving out of our current Penn Ave location and expanding to two new homes in the East Liberty neighborhood. In the works is a bigger and brighter Café/Bakery and a new Roastery with a Coffee Drive-Thru, where we’ll streamline your morning commute while fueling your face! So whether you’re running late or looking for a place to meet, eat or have a seat, we’ve got you covered in the 412. “Follow the Fuel”

Two new sweet treats have caught our eye: Annie Gilligan’s Sorbet is a small-batch, hand-crafted sorbet company that uses local ingredients (like Maggie’s Farm spiced rum, which spikes their pear sorbet), and is on sale at Bryant Street Market. We’re also loving Studecakers, a gourmet cupcakery out of Ford City. The mobile business creates delectable delights like Cherry Coke & Thin Mint cupcakes, and decorations that are out. 56
