Since the last issue I have had the privilege of having a professional photo-shoot, something that actually filled me with dread beforehand, as I hate having my photograph taken. As you can see from the photograph here, Donna did an amazing job and I could not have wished for a more friendly and relaxing session. If you are looking for a professional photographer for your special day, then I would highly recommend this fantastic lady (www.donnaeadephotography.co.uk). In the last couple of months I have also had the pleasure of meeting some fellow Tweeters from #Northantshour (Thursdays 8-9pm) - if you like to Tweet, take a look at it, it gets very busy and often trends whilst it is running. #Northantshour showcases some of the finest businesses across Northamptonshire - who knows what you might find. Photograph by: Donna Eade Photography

Finally I have been redesigning my website. I hope you like the new look, but I would still like to hear your feedback. If there is something you would like to see on the website or in the magazine, or something that you don’t like either, please email me and let me know. Don’t forget to have a look my Facebook page & Pinterest boards too.

You are getting married next week - whether you are excited or nervous, make sure you have every detail checked off your list….

Try a dry-run for your journey before your wedding day, so you familiarise yourself with the route and can allow for any unexpected delays.

Pack your suitcase for your honeymoon.

Collect all hired clothing and make sure it exactly what you ordered.

Arrange with your venue for flowers, decorations and the cake to be delivered to them the day before the ceremony.

Have a rehearsal of the ceremony with the whole of your wedding party.

Book yourself for a final hair & make-up practise session. This will also give you an idea how long you need to allow for this on the day.

Wear in your wedding shoes around the house - better than getting sore feet on the day!

Make sure the rings are collected and the Best Man knows where/when to collect them.

Have your Hen Party & Stag Night - better to have a few days before, rather than the night before & have a hang-over the next day.

Make a list for your photographer stating which shots you really want taken on the day - you may want to make sure you get a photograph of the Bride with her Grandmother for example.

Make sure you have ordered the money for your honeymoon, if you are travelling abroad.

Make arrangements for the gifts brought to the wedding reception to taken home for you.

Picking The Perfect Engagement Ring

By: Elaine Foreman Co. Director at KinetIQue Ltd.

The Four Cs All must be considered equally when comparing mined diamonds, but more than any other factor, according to KinetIQue, it is how the diamond is cut that will determine its defining characteristic. Cut Cut a diamond incorrectly and the defining sparkle will be compromised. It is how the 57 or 58 facets (the tiny planes cut on the diamond's surface) are angled and sized that dictate how light reflects and exits the diamond, an effect known as its "fire". Make the cuts too deep or too shallow and the diamond will be less brilliant. The best and most desirable cut available is called Hearts and Arrows, which are precision, cut variations of the traditional faceted round brilliant cut. When all these factors are in harmony the result is a repeatable, near perfect pattern of eight symmetrical arrows in the face up position called 'crown' and eight symmetrical hearts when viewed in the table down position, called the 'pavilion'. The cut will also determine the shape of the diamond. The most common shape is the round cut, but others include the emerald, the princess, the oval and the heart shape. Colour The most valuable and rare colour is white that is to say, colourless. Jewellers grade absolutely colourless diamonds with a D. Moving down the scale generally down to L, the diamond becomes less white and takes on a slightly yellowish hue, the further down you go. Clarity Many people get hung up over the clarity of a diamond. Look into most diamonds with a jeweller's loupe (magnifying eyeglass) and you will see small "inclusions", also known as "nature's Birthmarks". They look like small clouds or feathers but are usually invisible to the naked eye. Inclusions can affect the diamond's fire. They are graded from IF (Internally Flawless) at the top end moving down to the worst to I3 (Imperfect 3). Carat The weight, and thus the size, of a diamond is measured by carat. A carat is equal to 0.2gm, or 200mgm. A carat is divided into 100 smaller units called points. For example, three-quarters of a carat is 75 points. The average size of most engagement-ring diamonds is somewhere between one carat and half a carat. Do not confuse carats with karats, which is the unit of purity for gold.

BY NOW, IT IS CLEAR THAT MANY OF US ARE LOOKING FOR AN ALTERNATIVE TO MINED DIAMONDS AND THAT YOU WANT SOMETHING THAT IS ETHICAL, WITHOUT HARMING THE ENVIRONMENT. www.KinetIQue.co.uk www.facebook.com/KinetIQue

Let Them Eat Cake There are so many different options to choose from now and not just the appearance of the cake but the variety of tastes too. Most people imagine a wedding cake to be a three layered, rich fruit cake, with the crisp white royal icing and decorated with flowers. It was also tradition that the smallest top layer was then saved to be used as a Christening cake for the happy couple’s first child. How times have changed! Wedding cakes are no longer either fruit cake or a sponge cake either, you can opt for a variety of flavours and not just chocolate either. How about a trying chocolate orange or chocolate with Baileys (although warn your guests that there is alcohol in it, especially if there are children present). You might also want different flavours in each tier, so everyone gets a choice - try carrot cake, lemon cake & a champagne & strawberry flavour. You may even want to try a dramatic effect when you cut the cake and try a layered rainbow sponge, either in different colours or if different shades of your colour scheme. A recent trend is to have individual cup cakes, so that each guest gets to pick a cake themselves. If you still wanted a cake to cut as well, then why not try a giant cup cake too. If you are a lover of cheesecake, then why not have a tiered cheesecake instead or again, even separate, individual cheesecakes. Perhaps you are not even that fond of cake yourselves and prefer more savoury foods, so you could even have your wedding cake made out of cheese instead. When it comes to wedding cake, the choices are endless.

This time I thought I would take a look at lipsticks - after all, every girl wants a gorgeous smile on her wedding day. I have tried a few of Avon’s range of lipsticks for this issue of the magazine, from different shades to ones that claim to last for hours. Lorraine (Editor).

Avon Ultra Colour Absolute Lipstick (Tea Rose) Quite a natural colour, although looks slightly darker in the book. A very soft, creamy lipstick and this is exactly how it felt when wearing it. However, I found that it didn’t stay on long and rubbed off easily. Not really what you want on your wedding day, having to keep reapplying your lipstick.

Avon Ultra Colour Lipstick (Satin Finish, Red 2000) If you want a really bright red lipstick, then this is one for you. Very comfortable to wear, so much so that I forgot I was wearing it and it stayed put for hours. Certainly one to wear on your big day - has real staying power!

Anew Youth-Awakening Lipstick Pearl Finish (Plumberry) I personally love darker shades and loved this colour, but the actual staying power of this lipstick was very disappointing. I tend to lick my lips often and this didn’t stand up to that at all. The price is very expensive for a lipstick too, priced at £10.50, so would have to be perfect to warrant me buying it again.

Color Trend Kiss n Go Lipstick Limited Edition Shades (Loveable) A limited edition lipstick that was also on offer at a great price of £2.50. Nice, soft pink colour and lasted as well as any other lipstick, although won’t stay put all day. This could be a great gift to give older bridesmaids, with the heart-shape pattern actually on the lipstick itself too - very pretty.

Avon Perfect Kiss Lipstick (Peach Peck) This range of lipsticks seem to have more natural colours and the colour does stay well. Glides on easily and is really an ‘everyday wear’ kind of lipstick. I would prefer something a bit more ‘special’ for a big occasion. Avon Ultra Colour Lip Crayon (Reddy For Me) Great staying power and really easy to apply. No need to sharpen as just twist the base to expose more pencil. Only down side was I thought it left my lips a little dry after wearing all day.

Talking Point This is our discussion page and we want you to tell us what you think about the topics we write about. You may agree or you may think it’s outrageous - whatever your opinion, we want to hear it. We will print the best comments in the next issue of our magazine and on our Facebook page too.

The topic we want to hear your thoughts on this issue is…...

Seating Arrangements When it comes to organising your wedding, probably one of the most difficult tasks (and the one likely to cause the most arguments) will be where to sit everybody during the Wedding Breakfast. Even sorting out who sits where on the Top Table can be difficult. Tradition has it that on the Top Table the Bride sits on her Groom’s left, with her own Father on her other side. The Groom’s Mother is traditionally sat with the Bride’s Father and vice versa on the Groom’s side. There is then normally a Best Man (next to the Groom’s Mother and the Matron of Honour/Chief Bridesmaid at the other end of the table, making 8 people in total.

However, in modern times there are more likely to be couples getting married where their own parents are divorced, separated or even re-married, so you may like to consider having a larger Top Table so that nobody feels left out. To save any arguments, you could always opt for a Sweetheart Table so just the Bride & Groom have a top table all to themselves. Then there’s always the relatives and who to sit on the same table to prevent any family feuds, or do you decide to sit people with others that they do not know and hope they will even strike up a conversation with each other. Your chosen venue may determine which style tables are used - round and less informal means that guess can sit next to their partners, where as a more formal, rectangular table usually denotes that partners sit opposite each other. If you had an unusual top table layout, or any other seating problems, let us know, we would to hear what you planned and how it worked out!
